As everyone knows, Southerners are great storytellers. Nowhere is this more evident than in Georgia, where dramatic history and larger-than-life personalities make for some of America's most gripping ghost stories. From the hustle and bustle of Atlanta to the haunted squares of Savannah and beyond, Ghost Stories of Georgia will terrify and amaze * Sir Godfrey Barnsley, a model for Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind, is forced to confront the terrifying power of a Cherokee curse at his lavish mansion in Adairsville. * Forever heroic, Major John B. Gallie continues to guard Fort McAllister long after the cannon stopped firing. * Forbidden love, consummated only in death, lurks behind a haunting at the Midway Cemetery. * Renovations at Grove Point Plantation, the well-known retreat for the infamous pirate Blackbeard, stirred up more than just dust. * Reservations are no longer available at the Winecoff Hotel in Atlanta, but spirits of guests remained on the premises long after the cataclysmic fire in 1946. * For anyone interested in true tales of the paranormal, Ghost Stories of Georgia is sure to prove a chilling and unforgettable treat.
This is a collection of short stories about hauntings and folklore from the state of Georgia. These are fun little short stories and a brief glimpse at the history, geared toward young readers. It isn't scary but simple. I did enjoy seeing the pictures.
I'm not sure what star rating to give this one. I did enjoy it. It is more about history of Georgia than anything. There are spooky Legends about the locations in this book and apparently Milledgeville is full of ghosts. But if you are looking for a really scary ghost story with a lot ghosts threatening and terrifying people, this may not be the book for you. I'm sure to the people who experienced some of these encounters, they were truly frightened, but it didn't scare me or give me chills. The only thing that would probably terrify me is the elevator at The Kennesaw House. If that is not a ghost playing around, then they need to get the faulty wiring fixed. The author recommends using the stairs.
Note: It looks like the book was printed in 2006, the elevator has more than likely been checked out and if anything was faulty, probably fixed by now.
Another note just for amusement. I think it was last week, we were eating dinner at the kitchen table table when my husband suddenly tells me he finally figured out why he'd been feeling uneasy, hair standing on end, like someone had been looking over his shoulder all day. He felt really uncomfortable. He noticed I was reading Ghost Stories of Georgia and thought it had something to do with the book.
I adore ghost stories, and I love this author in particular. There's a California edition of this book as well, and it's what got me interested in ghosts in general. Not groundbreaking, but I like this version of storytelling in particular because it focuses on the history of the area and the culture of the time. I don't believe in ghosts anymore but I'm still going to try to track down the other books in this series.
this book is a good scary book its about many diffenrent people claiming to see ghosts and find out what happens when stories become reality i like this book because its different and has different stories instead of it being one book about one topic thats why i like it.
