Tough Justice: Burned by Carol Ericson is a 2016 Harlequin Special Release publication

This segment seemed more like a psychological thriller with Moretti’s mind games becoming more intense. Sadly, the hint of romance we saw in the second chapter fizzled, as Lara deliberately gives Nick the cold shoulder. So, I was a little disappointed to see Nick’s role so drastically reduced in this chapter.

However, there was a lot going on here, and a lot of ground was covered in a short span of time. This segment was super intense, very fast paced, and action packed. Once again, I am eagerly anticipating the fourth installment in the series

I am thinking I can sense a change in the "flavor" of the characters through each author, but admittedly I'm not sure if that is because I'm aware of the change in author. I will say this, even though I can "feel" the change it doesn't bother me and it does bring out something in the characters and the secondary characters because of the difference. I like it. :)

Although I do perceive a change, the action and the author is true when keeping to the overall arc of the storyline. This one also ends at a sort of cliffie, but it is okay since all the books are out and it is more like getting a slice of the pie and knowing you can have the rest later (without bad consequences, of course... LOL). This one seemed to bring in a bit more of the team, but none of the big questions are answered. However all immediate questions are as they are in each addition to the story. I'm getting more curious about Moretti and want to know exactly what his role with Lara was in the past. I'm not the only one wanting to know, it has become a sore spot with her partner as well.

Onto the next...

**ENTIRE SERIES REVIEW**

If you don't pay attention to the publisher at the start, you will soon realize that this is a Harlequin novel. When the FBI agents aren't investigating the crimes and trying to get the bad guy, they're either having sex or fantasizing about it. We get it, they are adults but Lara Gant seems to be a little too focused on getting physical with the bad guy or her new partner. If you got rid of the gratuitous love making, this 8 book series could be condensed to 4.

Once you get past the late nite Cinemax plots, it is a good crime series. Of course there is a mole, a bad guy and a twin, plus a daughter that gets used as bait. It is longer than needed (even without the explicit relationship descriptions), but getting through it is a rewarding way to spend some free time.

Growing a little weary of the series now. At times the story doesn't know if it wants to be an FBI thriller or a love story. What at times reads like a teenage girl infatuated description of some of the males in the story i'm finding as uninspiring and extremely repetitive, particularly in this third installment. Consistency of character personalities is also slipping but that's probably to be expected when multiple authors combine to tell a common stale. Some sections of the actual progression of the case they are seeking to resolve were good, none were great. Hopefully installment four is better.

I gave this one five stars because I really enjoyed the mind games that Moretti is playing. They become much more intense in this one. However I was really disappointed that the chemistry between Lara and Nick seemed so off. She really gave him the cold-shoulder which I didn't see coming but such is life. However I kept reading and fond that with this particular book you really noticed the change in authors. Not in a bad way either it is simply that Carol Ericson's writing style really shined through.

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. This review was first published at Blushing Reads.

I really liked this installment, I feel that the suspense really built but didn't feel rushed as it did in the last installment. There were a lot of mind games being played by Moretti and his gang, which made the book seem like I was watching a game of chess. This book moved very quickly and a lot of things were going on but somehow it seemed to come together very well. Looking forward to seeing where the next author takes the story.

Burned is the third book in the Tough Justice Series. Lara Grant is still trying to stop the man she has helped put behind bars, but things are still out of control in her life, and now, her bosses daughter is kidnapped.

I am enjoying this Series. It is fast-paced, and you never know what is around the next corner.
