Typical older Iris Johansen, which is nothing to sneeze about. I like her books. The tough hero and the vulnerable yet strong heroine. The intriguing connection between them. In this case, Jed is the son of the man who Ysabel was married to. Hey, don't get grossed out yet. It's all good. Ysabel is one of those virgin widow types. I wondered what drove Ysabel on to make such a desperate bargain with Jed, and Johansen sustains the suspense beautifully. When I found out, I was like, no wonder. Same with the reason why she was married to the Older Corbin.

The sensual parts are spicy as her books were for that time, and you feel the powerful tension between the Jed and Ysabel. So I can't really complain about anything.

Nothing spectacular, but I liked it a lot, so that's four stars.

“Winter Bride” is the story of Jed and Ysabel.
Beautiful love story between the virgin widow stepmother and an enigmatic reporter son (it’s totally innocent y’all!).
There’s a mysterious painting, a Silver haired devil of a hero, an innocent and selfless heroine, fast paced thrilling story and hot lovemaking.
Quick and lovely read!

This love story touched me. I liked the two main characters, and they came to need, and really care about each other. Great change in style, and was a nice break for this reader.

I was leaning towards two stars, but it wouldn't be quite right as I give two star rating to books I don't enjoy at all. And I can't say that it was horrendous. I finished it in one breath. Nonetheless,it was a completely unbelieveable story, weak characters, with strange, confusing thoughts and actions. I didn't like the contrast between two directions taken in the book: medieval-ish fantasy line, cold and mystical and then we have a modern rebellion theme somewhere in the jungle. For me,it just never came together.

This is the first book that I red from Iris, so what I was expecting was only a love story. But I've got a thriller mixed with it.
The characters are lovely. Loved Jad and Isabel. Loved their the development due the novel.
Also, Ronnie was definitely the best character of the book! She's like the big sister to Isabel. 😊

But the thing I loved the most is the fact that "Camelot", "sir Lancelot", and "king Arthur" were used from Jad for the description of the Island, and its Winter Lady and at the end, Jad himself. 😊😍

I could never put my finger on why I didn't really like this author's books, some of them aren't bad (otherwise I wouldn't keep reading them)
But now I think I figured it out!
There is a lack of sexual tension, since in most of her books the sexy times starts relatively early in the story. I want the plot to build up to the Woohooing! It doesn't have to wait to the end but not happen right away either.

Ma sul serio? La vedova del padre (che ha un’età più adatta al figlio) si vede con il figliastro e lui non riesce a stare lontano da lei? Amore a prima vista? Ah ah ah… Iris sei una mattacchiona. Abbandonato a pag.41. Così leggero che è volato via.

This was a romance reprint I think. Or it is just old style romance novel. I normally like this author really well; her romantic suspense is some of my favorite. This book was just not so believable.

2.5 Novella. It was ok, but really expected it to be better. I really can't recommend this one.

I wasn't thrilled with the way it was written. It was a bit amateur.
