I really flew through this series, which is saying a lot since I almost never read series books. I enjoyed the story and characters, but I did feel that the last book was overly long. We’d already had so many close escapes that I really didn’t need so many more to wrap up the series. I know some didn’t like the ending, but it worked ok for me. It does get pretty out there!
The Colony, by and large, is a pretty dark series. The victories the characters achieve are often measured in seconds. Safety is fleeting. Death is common.
How in the world is something like this supposed to have a satisfying ending?
By the author's own words, in a newspaper interview given years ago, there is a split in horror (and I am going to paraphrase here): there is the kind of horror that kicks you in the gut and leaves you in a gutter, and there is horror that kicks you in the gut and throws you into a hole...only to show that there is light to climb back into.
I'm not going to spoil which way the ending of The Reckoning goes, but I am sure that it is likely going to leave some people disappointed. I'm not completely sold on it myself. It did seem to come out of left field without much build up. That said it more or less worked for me, so I guess that's good enough.
At times this story unfolded with some originality outside the constraints of the apocalypse genre. I was disappointed with the conclusion, however, the story was engaging to keep me going until the end.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. It’s a relentless, unputdownable rollercoaster ride through a post-apocalyptic undead nightmare. MbC delivers once again.
The Colony saga was one of the best books I've read in a long time. Not your ordinary zombie story. Love the characters.. Could not put down. A Must Read !
Loved the series until it got extremely far fetched. When they started growing retractable wings and wolverine knife hands, it kinda lost me. Other than that I like the series and the ending.

What a horrible ending to a series that started out so strong! This last book was too over-the-top with all the Deus Ex Machina and then the actual ending made me cringe.
