When singer Rex Brody took Tamara Ledford in his arms, he knew suddenly that the lady he'd been singing to all along was no longer just a hopeful fantasy. But could he convince her that his feelings were as sincere as the powerful desire that swept her from a small-town life into the public spotlight where he lived? Tamara's psychic Aunt Elizabeth had predicted that with Rex she would share the beautiful music only true lovers may hear. But Tamara rebelled against his need for her. Then Rex showered her with blossoms that symbolized longing and tenderness -- and broke her heart... for there were no red roses....

"No Red Roses" is the story of Tamara and Rex. So as I was winding down after binging on all old school and Loveswept romances by Iris, I soon reached the end of the road with this book and kept it for one day when Id have courage to read for the first time- turns out the time came and here I am.. I ADORED IT! Maybe it was because it was the end, maybe because I hadnt read an Iris in a while, or maybe because her brand of crazy heroes is just my style- this was a fab read. Tamara is a horticulturist who prefers plants to people, when famous singer Rex bombards into her life..and steals her heart away! What begins as a tempestuous courtship turns into a sensuous romance- which is filled with a few misunderstandings, an obsessive and possessive hero, a heroine with a backbone and loads of dedicated songs and roses. If you like insta-love in old books with "you're mine forever" and stalkery themes, this one will be definitely for you. Oh NO! ITS OVER!!NOOOOOOOOOOO *dramatically sobs and runs to reread all old IJ again* Safe 4.75/5
"No Red Roses" is the sequel to "Return to Santa Flores" by Iris Johansen, and a very GOOD one i will tell ya! If ya all fell in love with the mischievous troublemaker of a singer that are World wide famous Rex Brody, you will find him fall in love at first sight in this book, with the beautiful nature-lover Tamara Ledford.
This is yet again another bitter-sweet and sexy love-story by this author. Rex knows what he wants, and he uses blackmail from the first to get it...he was such a tender man in love who craved Tamara`s attention and a very demanding lover...oh he is a wonderful hero! Tamara herself has been the victim of gossips her whole life of her being a "femme fatale"-a very beautiful and stubborn heroine who gives as good as she gets, i just loved how sassy she was! She really bewitched every man who came her way, including our hero Rex as he himself stated. I just loved it when he publicly called her his lady, it was sooo swoony!
It was also fun to meet Jenny (heroine in "Return to Santa Flores" and the way they become friends! Two years has gone after the first book, that was interesting to know. I could relate to how baffled Tamara was when she saw what a passionate musician Rex are..yeah i lived in it too.! And their romance...just everything that it could be,and i L.O.V.E it! Look forward to read more books by this author!
This is another of Johansen's books that does not include Eve Duncan, and is the second of these books I have read. As in Always by Johansen, I wanted to scream at the extreme overuse of adverbs ending in "-ily" and "-ly" instead of a different sentence structure that would use adjectives to mix it up a bit. In both books, reading ".....she/he said huskily" for about the 200th time between the two books, I nearly did not finish.
No red roses for this book, which was such a disappointment for me.
Absolutely awful. I hated both main characters and I'm not sure why I bothered finishing the book. I've enjoyed other books she's read, so I'm but sure what she was thinking with this one.
I really didn't enjoy this book. I found it difficult to connect to the characters and found the plot weak and not particularly gripping. Considering that I found both main characters weak and unable to be authentic, even to themselves, about who they were, what they believed, or how they felt about themselves (or even each other), my biggest wish throughout was for some interesting character development. The concepts for each character were great but neither stepped off the page into real people for me; they remained two dimensional. Actually I would have loved to hear more about the two older, secondary characters in the book...the heroine's great aunt and the professor of botany. Both seemed super intriguing and I would have loved to hear more of their story. The short pen sketches of each of their characters won my heart. I would love a book written about their story. If anyone writes one please send it my way.
Some books stand the test of time. This one doesn't. I have read a number of Johansen's more recent books which are compelling. Perhaps this being a Loveswept title made it appropriate at the time. It isn't now. Too Stupid to Live heroines and overly macho heroes have not stood the test of time. Don't do as I did and read a backlist because you admire the current works.
Did not finish. It was horrible. I do not understand how books are written where one of the 'love interests' starts off as a flaming butt-wipe. But don't worry it's just a misunderstanding!! And they'll fall in luv! Sorry, nope. Cretinous behavior is not a misunderstanding. Bye.
I may have read this book because Iris Johansen was just one iof my fave authors. I would love to read this book again. It’s been like 30 years since I last read ut.
I spent the first part of the book confused. What happened before Rex and Tamara met? What happened in Tamara's past to get everyone upset? What did her aunt do to Rex? I liked the character of Rex and how he dealt with Tamara. Tamara was annoying in parts.
Oh, this was a sweet read, and I'd like to have gone back to her home town, and seen some of that, but yeah, great, sweet book, and we got to see Jenny again, which was awesome!!
First off i couldn't tell what decade this was supposed to be in with the way they talked. Must admit i skimmed the last couple chapters as i just couldn't read anymore.
