Nag Mani is the author of the best-selling young-adult novel - The Green Room. His other works include "Devi", a blood-curdling horror story that takes place in a remote Indian village and is not for the faint-hearted.
The story is well narrated. As the story flowed, I was overwhelmed by the unexpected more than a few times. The background of an old prestigious boarding school does the trick as it makes the storyline very realistic. A brilliant effort for this first time author and a perfect read for us this Halloween weekend.
Review: So the story is all set in Nainital’s boarding school, where there are a lot of characters and one day they have been selected to do a school play, where they encounter the green room. This story is from what I read horror with rom-com ( which was kind of a turn off).
The positive of the book, whenever the horror scene stared, you would have goosebumps thinking about it. Scenes like they start somewhere and appear somewhere else. So in turns of the paranormal part its 5 out of 5.
The negatives of the book, as mentioned earlier, the paranormal part was just 25% of it. Rest were rom-com, things that happen in boarding school and all. The first part dragged a lot, and was not able to hold my attention( I thought that happened only with me, but read a review somewhere that happened with them too). The possibility that the book could go upwards went down the hill towards the end.
2.5 Read it for a book club otherwise wouldn’t have picked it up. The story is about a haunted boarding school which has a history the plot is a bit clichéd, characters were not well developed and there wasn’t much of a horror as I had anticipated. A fast read and a good try by the author nonetheless with a good description of the place, though it’s around 170 pages still feels dragged at times. As the rating, it was an okay read.
For someone who has started reading, this is a good thriller. The good thing about it is it sticks to the plot and doesn't digress too much into romance and such stuff. An average read for regular/avid readers.

Nestled in the valleys of Nainital is the Queen Victoria School. It's a school like all other boarding schools with their fun, rivalry, asshole seniors, love stories and rumours about ghosts. But what if the rumours are not just rumours?
Rohan and his friends are students of class 11th. It's their last year to enjoy as juniors before they become seniors and face board exams next year. The school is putting together a play- The Wizard of Oz- and the students of class 11th are handling it. Everything is fine until a students start seeing weird stuff happening in the green room. Rohan starts getting nightmares, Chandni is also behaving weirdly. The school management is being nasty, the warden is a dick.
What happens in the end? Is there truly a ghost? Who is it? Read The Green Room by Nag Mani to find out.
My views- Loved the book! It was unputdownable! I love books based in school! Highly recommend! My Ratings- 5/5 for everything!
Nostalgia usually comes in waves, today I am drowning. Every fiction contains elements of truth, inspirations, events, people, places and I am lucky to experience most of them in this book firsthand, so this book was more personal to me than an ordinary reader would identify. I fear my views of this book are biased and I often found myself reading between the lines. Its a whirlwind of nostalgia for any student of the 'Victoria School' :-) , Nag has maintained utmost fidelity in replicating some real life events, characters, right down to the logistics and architectural deployment of key scenes.
Well, simply put, this one flattered to deceive. Maybe it was the initial surprise at an actual creepy horror story in a somewhat novel environment for an Indian horror novel. But as you trudge along, despite the clichéd conversations and pedestrian prose, you find that what attracted to you in the first place, never seems to come up again
Maybe I'm being too harsh here. But I think this book would work better for young adults than the older demographic. I found the depictions of boarding life to be better than the actual horror story at its core. Simply because the horror story does not surprise you one bit. And hence the book does not throw any surprises at the reader
Rohan Agarwal has been appointed the manager of a play, and how excited he is to work with Chandni Joshi – his childhood crush, and unfortunately, his senior! A happy-go-lucky yet notorious high school boarder, who has his fun time with his friends, enjoys the odd sport and does not think twice before raiding his warden’s office to leak the exam's question papers. Then, one night, he sneaks into the infamous Green Room; and there, he finds something that was not supposed to be found. The Green Room
A very interesting read! the story did slow down at some places, but overall, it touches you by the time it ends. I bought it after reading a comment on amazon that it is a bit similar to Harry Potter with a boarding school setup and all the night adventures- leaking question papers and dares. Though there is no dark lord in the story, it indeed, to an extent, took me into the familiar world. hope mr Mani comes out with another story soon! Definitely recommended.
...And ever since, his eyes searched for her in every dark corner, always alert, thirsty for the slightest glimpse of her. He knew he would see her again. But he never did...’
The book is my second read from the author and I have read his other book called Devi. I must say that this book and its thrill didn't disappoint me at all. Being a thriller and horror enthusiast, it kept me at the edge, always surprised me and excited me with its narration and storyline. The language used is rich and captivating. I am in awe of the writing style of the author.
The protagonist Rohan, studying in a high school is notorious, brave, witty, responsible and street smart. He is always involved in some or the other activities taking place at the school and his best friends are Manav and Ayush. The vivid happenings of the school would make one nostalgic, as it is elaborated very well in the beautiful and picturesque city of Nainital. He is infatuated with another beautiful girl called Chandni.
Rohan is also a manager of an upcoming play to be held in the school like every year. The play is based on ‘The Wizard Of Oz.’ The auditions and then practice happens in the auditorium of the school which also has a very peculiar and mysterious green room. When Rohan gets involved with the play, he starts experiencing paranormal happenings around him now and then, often pushing him to like another dimension. There is a creepy doll, unknown sources of screams, the chair and the mirror and much more. Besides, the 153-year-old school has layers of hidden truths and a treacherous past. Will Rohan be able to unleash the truth? Will he be able to find the core of the happenings? You must read to find more about it.
"The world began to fade. The trees began to disappear. Then why were those Faces becoming clearer? And there she stood by a ghastly trunk, watching him..." Nag Mani , *The Green Room*
👻 Halloween is here,so I decided to pick this one up, I really take a fancy to get into the spooky mood.Honestly,I am not much into horror stories, but reading this was a different experience.
👻 Rohan, the protagonist of the story is enamored with Chandni Joshi and his happiness knows no bounds when he uncover that they will be together in a school play. In order to take her breath away, he decides to take upon a dare that statutory him to sneak into the infamous Green Room of the school which is rumoured to be haunted by the ghost of a school girl.
👻He decides to take up the dare and visits The Green Room. Very soon , weird things starts happening around Rohan. There is something sinister that resides in the Green Room and he is shell shocked to find out.
👻So, what is the mystery of the Green Room? Is it really haunted by that pale white girl Rose with a tattered old uniform? If yes ,then what does she wants and what will happen to Rohan now?
👻 The way author has used many subplots to keep things spiced up is really commendable. The book is short, crisp and somewhat mysterious.
👻 Although the climax is pretty much predictable, the book still holds the potential to keep you hook till the last page.
👻The conclusion is that the book is amusing in its own sweet way.
👻In the end , The Green Room is a pretty reasonable book for somebody seeking for mild horror. If you are bored and want some spooky thrill, this can be your next read.

This is a decent read, and I thought that the book did have a couple of high points, notably at the beginning of the novel.
'The Green Room' is set in an Indian boarding school which is haunted by the spirit of a girl who has been long deceased. The plot circulates around a bunch of kids practicing for a big play that's to take place in Delhi, and Rohit, Ayush, Manav and gang all super pumped about it - especially Rohit because he gets to be near his long-time crush Chandni who is super hot and just so happens to be in the play as well. But then, things go downhill when their rehearsals attract an unexpected visitor from the spirit realm.
The plot is standard horror-fare and extremely cliche, but I think in terms of written prose, this is one of the better books I've read by an Indian author. And the setting is perfect for a spook-fest, but I feel the book could have benefited from a few hundred extra pages to give the characters more depth and the antagonists more concrete and logical reasons to justify why they did the things they did. Also, the last quarter of the book was mediocre, riddled with loop holes (mostly regarding character motives) and too "Bollywood".
In conclusion, I'd still recommend this book for a read since it's a short novel that doesn't exactly set the horror genre on fire, neither does it desecrate it. It's alright.
WHAT A HORROR! I did not expect this book to be so good, I'm so not kidding! It still gives me creeps as I'm writing this review about this amazingly scary book that shook me to the core. The story is about a boarding school and the secrets lies in those doors. Rohan, a junior was appointed as the manager of a play which was going to be enacted by the students. What he doesn't know that every time school had presented this play, something dreadful always happened in the green room of the actors. IT'S SCARY!!! I had started this book at night but after reading a few pages, I shut it off because it was so eery, scared the hell out if me. And I took the precautions of reading the entire book in broad daylight because I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. Amazing plot, had me intrigued since the beginning and there seemed a lot of creative thinking behind the story, the new twists, the intricate, small details that added up in the story that would just leave you in awe after you connect all the dots! It was such a ride. When the secret was revealed, it almost left me in tears and I was so heartbroken. I absolutely loved Rohan's character and as it was not a very thick book, it's fast pace kept me satisfied. If you're into horror, it's a must read! And guess who's found a new favorite genre as horror from now onwards? Yours truly! 🙈
I'm going to review this because I ploughed on till the last page. Mr. Mani has done a fine job for a debut, but not quite. The horror genre is first of all meant to be what it is called: Horror. This story has too many anti-climaxes and riddled with far too many logical reasons out of every situation which can put off a reader. The plot seems to progress nicely and then hit a wall and then go off-course. When finally the horror part kicks in, one might be too put-off to fully appreciate the spook. The author has very nicely described the picturesque setting of Queen Victoria School, but has not quite managed to adequately capture the experience one might have in a boarding school. The characters were mostly hormone-addled teenagers who think and speak cringe-worthy cheesy and cliched lines most of the time. There's more complexity involved in the way a teenager might think, the author has offered a very limited view on that. I had picked up the book out of sheer boredom, and the book started out pretty well, only to leave a bad after-taste when I finished it. Having said all, I feel this is book is a one-time read only, there's no two way about it.
📌 The story is set in a 153-year-old school, pretty old to have enough of mysteries and a terrible past.
📌 Rohan, a smart high school student, while practicing for an upcoming play, near the mysterious green room, begins to experience the paranormal activities. As the story moves ahead many mysteries regarding the school come out.
📌 Yes, as you might have guessed, it’s a horror novel with a good amount of spooky elements.
📌 The first few pages give a clear picture of the high school life, and if you have ever been to a boarding school, no doubt, you’ll be nostalgic. Otherwise, there is a fair chance for you to get bored.
📌 However, soon the story enters into the main plot, and then there is no looking back.
📌 In addition to horror, there is a large space for romance, which makes the book more engaging.
📌 The language is lucid and the narration is so good.
📌 The cover is so captivating with an appropriate title.
📌 Overall, a short horror romantic thriller with a gripping plot and excellent narration.

Mystery & thrill are loved & enjoyed by every reader. So, here's another thrilling book authored by Nag Mani.
The storyline is set-up in such a manner that readers find the mention of old prestigious boarding school in Nainital, Shimla. The protagonist here is a smart, young & intelligent boy Rohan. He belongs to this very school.
Rohan is made to participate in the Play organised on behalf of the school. The play was to be performed in an auditorium which consisted of a GREEN ROOM.

The Green Room by Nag Mani has everything you are looking for..it will make you laugh, cry, give you literally a chill running in your spine vibe and most importantly it all makes sense even though at times the story is little dragged. It is a perfect filmy kind of novel. Makes you feel the beauty of the mountains. The writer makes sure that you travel through the lanes of Nainital and he describes it so beautifully without distracting the plot from the main point. Imagine where ever you are you get the feeling that someone is watching you and you come across some strange situations that are hard to Believe and even harder to forget..wow Nag Mani just wrote is so well. Also the sweet love in school..that innocence in love during teenage it's all so heart warming to read and it's all like a fairy tale experience.. Do read it.. This will show us some pure friendship, innocent love, heart wrenching situations, spectacular start and amazing ending. And not to forget that eerie vibe!!
"Green Room" is authored by Nag Mani. The plot is set in the backdrop of old prestigious boarding school in Nainital, Shimla. The story revolves around protagonist Rohan who is a smart, intelligent, and brave boy of the school. One day the school announces a play. Rohan alongwith other student participated in the play. The auditorium which was used for play has a peculiar and mysterious green room. During the play Rohan and other students noticed some paranormal activities which was very scary and creepy. Rohan was constantly experiencing these paranormal activities around him. A girl roaming around, screams of a girl, dreadful sounds coming from unknown sources and many more.
Will Rohan be able to unleash the truth of this mysterious Green Room.?
Will Rohan be able to dug out the treacherous hidden past of the school.?
The story is well narrated. A perfect blend of thrill and suspense.
A good book. The cover is really spooky and well designed. The protagonists have been well portrayed and described. Beautifully written, making it worth reading. Language and narration is smooth and also keeps in track the required spookiness and thriller aspect. The book basically takes you into a world of fantasy and spookiness. Reminds me of my childhood days when I used to sit with my dad and used to listen to his horror stories, this book also gave me thrillers and I enjoyed reading it. There were some aspects which could have been improved, like story-wise, then plot and drama could have been refined yet further. As the story prolongs it till it becomes predictable and boring. Still worth reading, can be enjoyed during nights and rainy days.
The green room , a debut novel by the author and my first ever experience of reading a horror book . To begin with , the cover of this book itself looks extremely scary.
Protagonist Rohan , is studying at a boarding school . Being an old boarding school various tales of supernatural activities about and around the school are talked about . Rohan is the head of a school play to be held .
Suddenly , many of them start experiencing some supernatural activities and this intrigues Rohan as well . Tales about the ghost of a girl being roaming around in the green room is been heard around.
Will Rohan be able to find out the truth ?
A very interesting and spooky tale , halloween special , written in a lucid way and keeps you on toes with your Curiosity
I want to start of by saying this is an amazing book! It is set in an boarding school with a dark history of murder. A young man joins the school , haves fun and BOOM suddenly sees a ghosts but surprisingly the ghost does the harm the kid but rather just reveals itself , more like it is trying to say something. The book keeps you hooked on with fun adventures, mysteries, romance, and all the high school fun. As for the name "Green room" is basically the place where the ghost is haunting. It's not a horror book but it does have its fair share of suspense and will keep you hooked on till the end. By the time you finish the book you would be kind of happy and sad together. An amazing book by an Indian author, definitely worth trying.
A teen story with a spooky twist. Except for few typos in the Kindle version, the story is beautifully written. The author takes you to the life of teenage students at "Queen Victoria School" in the beautiful city of Nainital. The classrooms, games, and plays described in the book are somewhat like as shown in the TV series Hip Hip Hurray, which may not be closer to reality in most of the Indian Schools. There is a good spooky element, the author successfully engages a reader with the spooky element, but fails to scare. This does not make this book a bad read. Only do not expect to be scared.
A horror story, also narrates a school love-story. As a debut novel, it was a pretty good job on the part of the author. Some parts can make shriek out, while some line will leave you thinking for quite a long.
Some of my favourite lines from this novel are.. "The west seemed reluctant to accept the darkness, for it still held on to the dying shades of crimson the sun had left behind."
“The beauty that had once turned every head, now had every head turned away, the beauty that died in faraway cave, cold and dark, with no one beside her.”
It has suspense, and has a tragic ending. Happy reading :).
My Review:- I just thought to try the debut novel of this author which I'm seeing recently, Nag Mani. The Green room which was a short fast paced read, which will grip you till end if you manage to read the 1/3rd of the book. At first I felt a little irritated with the book but while reading futher it became awesome. You should not miss this because its going to be a great adventures read of this year for you. While reading this book, I just felt nostalgic, because it have just gone through my school days and our stage performance times. You must read this book if you want to try a good horror mixed with school dramas. It's reccomend.
If you really wanna feel this book, start it off by 12 am and close the book after finishing it only.
The story line and the flow is good. There are some moments that may spook you out, but definitely not that spooky that you jump out of your bed. I have seen many horror shows, movies, witnessed real life experiences, stories, compared to those it was okay. Basically, I found it a perfect amalgamation of few events. Considering a short read of only 180 pages, you can go ahead and read the same.
