When P.I. Honey Winston is hired to steal incriminating letters from visiting dignitary Prince Rubinoff, she’s prepared for a dangerous mission that could end her career. But when she blows her cover, she finds that the amused prince is everything the media have made him out to be: part Adonis, part playboy—and irresistibly charismatic. The problem is, the feeling is mutual. Intrigued, the prince is determined to keep his gorgeous young trespasser by his side as long as possible.

For he’s never met anyone quite as daring, or breathtaking, as Honey. With the tables turned, Prince Rubinoff has Honey appointed his personal bodyguard. The official reason is an assassination plot. The truth is far more dangerous….

So, here we are on the 2nd book in Iris Johansen’s Sedikhan Series….and what can I say???

It’s more like a Mills & Boon story…..our feisty heroine, Honey (I kid you not!!) Winston is a PI and is on a job to get incriminating letters for her client from the gorgeous and sexy and zillionaire Prince Rubinoff…oh yes, this is a contemporary novel!!!!

She gets caught and the prince falls under her spell…..okay, she’s this tall and gorgeous women with long flowing white-blonde hair…thus the name Golden Valkyrie…and she’s cheeky too!!!!

The hero….swoon …swoon….is more than what the paparazzi say about him. He’s not really a man-whore…well, let’s just say….this guy sleeps around!!!!! But wait, underneath all that …he’s really a deep and talented artist....and insecure…yes, he’s an incredible painter but is afraid of what the world will think of his work!!!! You don’t believe that’s possible???? Well, neither did I!!!!
But look this is fiction and anything is POSSIBLE!!!!!! Anything is BELIEVABLE!!!!!

So he and his cousin, Alex Ben Rashid, who is also a man-whore with a penchant for red-haired women…he strongly tells Honey that the reason for that is not because of his love for his cousin, Lance…oh that’s Prince Rubinoff’s name (what a naff name for a prince…yes, I know it’s short for Lancelot…what in this day and age!!!!...okay…fiction…fiction..) who has auburn hair…they are not GAY!!!!! The reason Alex likes the red is because he feels safe with Lance!!! What!!!!!!

Okay….let’s get away from that and get back to Honey and Lance’s love story!!! He takes her to his private island, discovers she’s a 24 year old virgin…not kidding here…..spends his days and nights painting ….and more painting. She finds his work ASTOUNDING…AMAZING….of course she does!!!

Eventually do the deed!!!! And voila…..the prince falls in love with Honey and is prepared to give up EVERYTHING for her!!!! In between Honey’s deflowering, there are some bad guys who arrive on the island bent on assassinating both her prince and his cousin!! Did I mention that she’s being hired by the US State Dept to be these two guys bodyguards??? Of course she gets the villains…what a brave kick-ass heroine!!!! Did we ever doubt that!!!!

OMG…it gets even better!!! There’s this German princess…not very gorgeous…wears glasses, fat, bad dresser…and is totally in love and dedicated to marrying Prince Lance because their two lineages are just perfect…..arrives on the island and within minutes persuades poor old Honey that she must give up the prince for his own good!!!! German princess is the right one not some poor and unknown PI with a terrible name like Honey that just does not make it as Princess Honey!!!!!

And being the most idiotic heroines of all time….she leaves the poor prince and disappears for the next six months. The prince is heartbroken and misses her.

I must admit that I laughed through most of this book. It was so ridiculous that I actually was looking forward to the next page…I had to find out what would happen next!!!!!

Okay, this book was first published in the early 80’s and there are a few scenes that are out-dated…check the disco Honey takes the two boys to!!!!
However, I finished reading it because I was blown away by the outlandishness of the storyline!!!!

And I think I may just continue reading the series.

I have read few other books from the Sedikhan series and liked them.

I have actually read The Trustworthy Redhead and the hero from it made his first appearance in 'The Golden Valkyrie' and that's the reason I decided to go for it.
Frankly this book was a bit of a let down compared to the other books of this series (that I have read till date)....

Our hero Prince Rubinoff is more of a Beta hero. He is supposed to have depth to him and he is not just the flamboyant playboy that the media portrays him to be. Our heroine- Honey is a P.I who later on acts as Prince Rubinoff's bodyguard.
But here's the thing, I never got a tough strong vibe from Honey, the title was just for the sake of it and didn't feel real in the story.

As per me the whole bodyguard angle was just to make the story interesting but was very under-utilized. She could have literally been a housekeeper for all that it mattered.

The romance was very tepid and something that you will read and forget after sometime. It's not a story that will stay with me for very long.

This was cute story and parts of it were good but it was more exciting before they got to the bedroom. The taxi scene was hotter then there first time for sure. She was just a little too easy when she knew his rep and he made fun of her all the time. Sorry but I can't endorse that in a hero. He gets points for coming after her and drugging her into the costume on the ship. Cute but not awesome.

“The Golden Valkyrie” is the story of Honey and Lance.
Honey is a PI, who invades Prince of Sedikhan Lance and his cousin Alex’s room, being hired by his psycho ex, for what turns out to be false reasons. As she leaves, she ends up intriguing Lance, who then uses Government pressure into hiring her as a bodyguard. Them falling for each other while she protects him, and vice versa is the story.
The hero was a little bit annoying. He’s OTT domineering in the first half (annoyingly one minded about bedding the heroine even when she says no), and lusts after her like a hot dog. Then suddenly he’s a painter and an artist, then he’s angry and then passionate. Very borderline in his behavior.
The heroine was OK. She was supposed to be this brave kickass professional, but easily gave into chemistry now and again.
Did like the scenes in their island though, and the book does get way better in the last half when the hero is not being a creep- but then it was all spoiled by the heroine giving up power to the OW and running. I mean, you promise to stay together till death and then give up. *insert eyeroll*

"The Golden Valkyrie" is a re-release of a 1983 Loveswept Iris Johansen title. The story is very much a product of its times, but still fairly racy for those days...Just don't expect any realism and you'll be okay. For Johanse fans, she explains that this was the first book where she tried to be humorous...

She's a Private Investigator, he's a prince. She's a virgin, he's a playboy. They meet in a very interesting way, and, of course, fall in love. Sweet story with a very HEA.

Honey Winston is a private detective, with her finances struggling, she knows she needs a good case. When a woman comes to her asking her to find some letters for her, Honey is more than willing considering the reward involved. So Honey sneaks into Prince Rubinoff's hotel suite, hiding beneath the service cart, however since she is allergic to cigar smoke, she is discovered and forced to reveal her true reason for her being there. However Lance is viewed on the media as a royal playboy his nickname being "Lusty Lance". After being discovered she is then blackmailed into serving as his bodyguard, having been made aware there is a threat on his life and that of his friend Alex. When they head to a remote island, Honey doesn't realize that she will be in close proximity to Lusty Lance who has developed a unique fascination with her. A fascination that develops into a relationship with aspects neither of them expected to find in one another, one where love and commitment thrive.

I have just loved reading this Sedikhan series, and I just love this author, especially through Audio. This is a contemporary romance novel written by Iris Johansen, who is one of my favorite romance authors to read from. We have Lance, who is a talented artist, where only he and a few others know of his rare gift.He hides who he truly is with a exterior of a play boy, where inside he yearns for love and a family. When he sees Honey, a beautiful Valkyrie who stirs up his emotions like no one ever has, and vows that she will be his. Honey has a duty to protect Lance Robinoff from the danger that threatens his life, but somewhere along the road they are both headed on, Honey realizes that there is a lot more to him that she ever realized. That she is falling in love with the one person she doesn't know if she can trust with her heart. This was such a lovely riveting story, filled with witty interaction between the character, a exciting plot and a well written story that is portrayed well with the audio story that makes the story come alive for the reader and listener. I am definitely looking forward to reading the rest of this series!!!

This showed up as a recommendation in MYSTERIES.
I should have seen that iris johansen is a romance writer. Likely a great romance...if you like romance novels.
This book typifies what I dislike about romances - they are grotesquely sexist. They save the 'little woman' from weak and stupid acts. In this one, the woman is happily lied to and even drugged and kidnapped. No problem.
She has unprotected sex, but no problem, it would be an honor to carry his baby..even as a momento.
She of course is a 24 year old virgin and he is a playboy, having sex with different women every day.
Everyone is beautiful and tall and fit. The men are rich.
And the day you meet someone and feel a spark, you live happily ever after.

This is not one of Johansen's better books. The main character Honey Winston is not believable as a PI, nor is the plot very interesting.

All I can say is it was entertaining... Didn't know this author wrote such trite stories. Very disappointing.

Really awful writing insufficiently relieved by mediocre characters. Using the word “virile” even once is a risky choice, but after the first six times, you know the author just didn’t want to put in the effort required to “show, don’t tell.” At one point in their developing consensual relationship he tells her that if she doesn’t stop being appealing, “I’m going to rape you.” She replies, “So rape me.” Even in the 80s it would have been appalling to minimize sexual assault that way. Sadly, the idea that she won’t “spoil the fun” of unprotected sex by asking her boyfriend to prevent pregnancy or disease is very 80s and it feels really creepy. The whole thing is very disappointing. I can’t UNrecommend it enough.

This h have to be the most worthless bodyguard in the world!
The h is a PI but is bullied by the H to be his bodyguard and to come with him and his friend to an island were she just lolls around and sunbaths. She is suppose to guard the H but when he is locked up in his painting studio for 12 hours straight she doesn't bat an eye or worry that he's been kidnapped or something. I can't remember if there was an actual threat to the H. Nothing threat-y happened after she was hired bullied to guard the H.

Iris Johansen’s writing is good as usual even in this early novel. The story is a bit juvenile but it does contain some sexual content that wouldn’t be appropriate for the younger set. I read the book years ago and didn’t remember it very well but upon rereading it, I saw so much more. If you want some light reading with a touch of humor, I can recommend this novel.

I enjoyed the Sedikhan series back in the day, and still enjoyed it today. True it is dated in some areas but I like the desert king vibe, though in this book he spends more time on an island. Fun blast from the past.

More of a romance novel than a mystery novel. While Johansen has a tendency to go heavy on the romance aspects of a story, it is this book's main theme. My first (and probably last adventure into the Sedikhan series.

Terrible writing. There are other words to describe a hot man than saying virile or virility on every page. The story wasn't all that great all around. Not very inventive or interesting.

Such an enjoyable reread after all this time.
I do not want to even admit to how long ago I originally owned and read the paperbacks for this series.
Found the eBooks when browsing my library, so decided to have a nostalgic reading trip.
I still distinctly remember TOUCH THE HORIZON with Billie and David, as it was the first book I read in this series and I reread it quite a few times. Even years later it still remains a happy memory.
I have reviewed some of these over the years but I was pleasantly surprised to find more have been written. I always wanted to read Clancy’s story so I am rereading these in order until I get to him.
Showing its age but still an enjoyable and very entertaining read, with likeable characters and a nice ride along storyline.
Safe sex definitely not thought off and joking about rape is really in poor taste.
I can understand Honey not being on the pill as she was a virgin but Lance implied he left it up to the woman to be protected, a bit stupid really but it is an age of book thing.
