"Miranda," Rafael said through clenched teeth, "I beg of you, do not drive me too far!"

Rafael was annoyed. No woman of his own nationality had looked at him in quite that way before. Had she no respect - this girl from England! Did British women consider themselves the equals of men?

But Miranda Lord wished she hadn't come to Mexico or become involved with the Cueras family. Only then, of course, she wouldn't have met Rafael!

One of Jose Antonio Domingo Bernabeu's beautiful covers. The goodreads image isn't the best but it's his typical: clean lines, warm hues, pretty couples. In my mind his lovers often seem to be inhabiting a moment after the wrench and drama of the ILY; they're a couple now yet it's new enough that they're somehow wary and watchful. Anyway as there's no visible signature here you may be wondering how Jose Antonio Domingo Bernabeu squeezes his grand name on to a cover...

Pale Dawn, Dark Sunset features an Anne Mather hero trying to lead an honorable life—living in a rustic cottage and offering medical care to the poor inhabitants of a Mexican village in spite of being cagey about being called "doctor". Then too he's also a seminarian because in AM's imagination if you're lean, grouchy, sexy and Mexican chances are pretty good that you're an almost priest. Soooo noble—he's like an AM unicorn—but a male unicorn so he's actually had sex and stuff. Eventually he feels called upon to mention this fact to the heroine who he assumes is sexually experienced—hey lady if you let me into your pants I swear I know what to do....

Funny, though I mourned the lost opportunity for the heroine to be the one to say cuttingly "I don't do virgins little boy." Oh well classy restraint is why AM is a much revered M&B writer and I'm not.

this was ok, but not much of a romance read. in fact, it's fairly difficult to tell whether the H is really interested in the h till the second half of the book. On the plus side, Anne Mathers' writing was as good as ever and helped me finish the book without being tempted to classify it as a DNF. 2 stars.

It was actually pretty good. I was surprised but I was also annoyed with the character Juan in the book. He was pushy and annoying. He undermined everything the hero was trying to do for Lucy. The hero was surprisingly refreshing and different. I wished the heroine had more backbone but the story was so unique.

Young heroine (probably 19 as she is a year out of college) goes to Mexico to see if the survivor of an air crash is her niece. The hero (30s) had trained as a doctor, but is now training to enter a seminary. She’s quite outgoing but soon the atmosphere at the hacienda (where the hero’s family lives) repels her as she is unwanted. The hero’s brother is thinking about adopting the girl found and doesn’t want the heroine to take her home (the girl has amnesia and really she is a rude little brat). The heroine wants to help her, but also she’s totally in lust with Rafael, the hero, as he moodily watches her/avoids her. We are told that the hero’s father was a Don Juan and in his youth the hero had so many sexual experiences encouraged by his father that he felt degraded and no longer felt attraction to women. Of course the hip, young and beautiful heroine restarted his longings and she has made it so obvious that he thinks he only needs to ask and she’ll sleep with him. He is tortured by his lust and eventually realises he loves her.
This is quite an interesting one as almost all the characters are unpleasant in some way (except the heroine). Yet I still enjoyed it and the hero will be much happier with his young bride and his birthright, so he should make her happy.

Wild ride that leads no where. Everyone except for the priest propose to the heroine. But I bet he thought about it. The girl is nutty too. Then an exmachina moment right at the end for more useless drama. Skip.

Miranda's sister and brother-in-law with their 8 year old daughter had been missing for four months, their plane wasn't found. Could they be alive after all this time. Miranda lives in London, she received a letter from the authorities in Guadalima, Mexico stating that a young maybe 8 years of age blonde haired girl was found wondering in the mountains 18 miles from the town, could this possibly be Miranda's niece Lucy? The letter states that the child has forgotten who she is, it is impossible to say with any certainty who she might be. She is being cared for by Father Esteban at he mission, he has left it in Juan Cueras's hands to send someone to Mexico City to meet Miranda and bring her to the Hacienda Cueras. Juan has become attached to the child and asks his elder brother Rafael to go meet Miranda's plane and escort her back. Rafael has lived in Mexico City attending seminary to become a priest. He works long, hard hours for the people and resents being asked to fetch Miss Lord. When they met it didn't take long for Rahael to size her up, without a doubt, he decided, she was not unaccustomed to the ready admiration of the opposite sex. It was there in the slightly slanting eyes, in her awareness, in the confidence she exuded, and Rafael withdrew behind a façade of coldness that was totally alien to him. The anger and tension in his face shocked her.

This was a good book but I wish the h was a little stronger and had more character! because most of the time it felt like she was lost and didn't know what to do! and she hardly ever stood up for herself!
The story was great and I loved it but I was also very annoyed with Juan!!!

أولى قرائاتي لروايات عبير وأول إعارة لي من صديق.. أحببت البطلة العقلانية نوعًا ما ولكن القصة ذاتها غير ذات معنى
