The Perfect Bite

Rate this book
Gabe Villagran has been an outcast since birth. The large purple birthmark on the right side of his face has ostracized him from family and community, leaving him with little self-esteem. So, imagine his delight when vampires come out to the world. Finally, at the age of eighteen, he's not the only freak of nature around. Five years after leaving home, Gabe meets Pierre Sangre outside his gay vampire club quite by chance--meaning, he rescues Gabe from becoming vampire food. A vampire himself, Pierre has been mourning the loss of his beloved Andre for centuries but sees something in the young man before him, and wants to keep him close. Pierre hires Gabe as a sort of "boy Friday" at the club and Gabe, grateful to his savior, accepts and falls irrevocably in love. For ten years, both men have danced around their attraction to each other. Pierre, because Gabe is vulnerable; Gabe, because he doesn't think he can ever measure up to Andre. But now, one night of misunderstandings clears things up and the two men meet in a blaze of passionate encounters that make the world new, for both of them. All it takes is the perfect bite.

The Perfect Bite by J.D. Walker is really a must read if you are a MM, vampire lover. Might be a quick read but it is full of action, adventure, and lots of love. I like the concepts of accepting yourself just as you are imperfections and all.
Gabe the words I would use to describe Gabe would be, smart, funny, brave, and loyal. He has a birth mark on his face making the right side of it purple. This has outcast him for most of his life. Even his parents saw it as a flaw rather than a badge of courage. When he is rescued by Pierre in the alley, he finally finds what he has been looking for all his life love.
Pierre is grieving the loss of a true love, but he now is having feelings for Gabe. He wants to be sure these feelings are not because he rescued him. Pierre he is dominate, loving, kind, and loyal as well. He understand the meaning of family and love better than anyone. He is giving that to Gabe, he just isn’t sure he should take the love Gabe wants to give him in return.
I really would love more in this world. The club is a great idea. I love the vampires and how Gabe handles them. There is a certain bartender who desperately needs his own story in this book too. I hope there are many more adventures at Club Dicknosis in the future.

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

This was such a sweet story. Gabe has always been an outcast first in his hometown and now as the only human employee at a gay vampire club. Pierre has been watching Gabe since he saved him ten years earlier, but never had the courage to actually pursue him.

Gabe doesn’t feel he is worthy of anything, let alone the love of Pierre, he is determined to keep it to himself. Pierre has finally let go of his love that had died centuries before, but needed to figure out the best way to approach Gabe. Gabe was so innocent, even though he worked at a gay club for years he has no experience himself and quickly misinterpreted many of the signs he is given, almost causing his own heartbreak. When Pierre shows him he is worthy they connect perfectly.

The cover art is great and eye catching.

Gabe Villagran has not had an easy life. Born with a birth mark that covers half his face, he has been shunned and/or made fun of since birth by both his family and his class mates. As a result, his self-esteem has suffered. Now at eighteen, two things happen. He leaves his home and vampires come out. Now he feels as if he is not the only freak in the world.

When a vampire club opens, Gabe goes to see if he can get a job. He meets the owner of the club when he saves Gabe from becoming a vampire snack. Pierre has spent years mourning the loss of his love, Andre, but there is something about Gabe that touches him. He decides to hire him as a Boy Friday, earning Gabe’s undying love and devotion.

Ten years later, Pierre has not made a move because he feels Gabe is vulnerable while Gabe has never made a move because he figures he can never compare to Andre. One misunderstanding later and Gabe and Pierre find themselves unable to resist each other.

Many of us can identify with Gabe. So often, people cannot see beyond the physical appearance. Gabe had so much to offer and Pierre gave him that chance to shine. Now Pierre finds himself wanting more and is not sure how to go about getting that something more. Watching these two dance around each other made for some great reading. The two of them were quite well suited; they just had to realize it. Hop on the passion path and feel what these two do as they try to reach a passionate conclusion to their desires.

Gabe has a scar that keeps him from wanting to be noticed. When he can, he escapes his horrible childhood and finds sanctuary at a Vampire Bar called Dicknosis. There he meets the owner, Pierre and over the years, falls terribly in love with him.

Pierre has lost his mate decades ago and is still pining for him. But… over time he’s come to realize there may be room in his heart for another.

**

There were parts of this story that I really liked. Gabe has the perfect unrequited love and Pierre the perfect Alpha male character down pat. I was definitely rooting for Gabe and since this is such a short story was happy for the relative low amount of angst and tribulations.

I didn’t always care for the phrasing of things, it felt stilted and old-fashioned at times then uncomfortably “hip” at others.

It wasn’t the best vampire story I’ve ever read, but it wasn’t the worst either. For the most part I found it entertaining.

3.5 rounded up.

I would have liked to have more of the story, as it is an interesting premise but a bit too short to get all the connection.
