Seriously a Meh! Book!
I have a feeling the book was pretty safe with the exception of a little staring!
The "poor" playboy never stood a chance because heroine was in love with her ex-fiancé and hooked up with him while in a relationship break.
He hated her indifference, and throughout the whole book, she WAS indifferent.
I felt he didn't EVER offer her explanations or anything but suddenly he's begging her to give their relationship a label! And then there was HEA.
I am guessing, only guessing, he probably explained everything to her off the pages before tying the knots. Otherwise I fail to see why SHE would fall for him.
Because every time SHE tried to move towards him he very rudely snapped at her how it was none of her business. Fortunately she was one of those women with real backbones who could retaliate with needed emotion appropriate to the situation to make him want her more. She would straightaway back out saying he is right, either snapping right back at him, or being extra kind or just by understanding but one thing remains constant she's indifferent, and not just to him. She IS indifferent. As a matter of fact she LOVED the baby and the sex but never him, but suddenly we have HEA.
It was pretty underdeveloped plot. He never explained the baby situation to her properly, yet when he was explaining there are inconsistencies regarding pregnancy dates and the unlikeliness of him being the father she understands it in a heartbeat! As I said, he constantly denied to offer her any explanations yet it seems she knows everything so either she's a mind reader or he's pretty crap at "not offering explanation"!
But I liked the heroine! She wanted no strings attached sex. She did exactly that. She did the morning after so well, she made the self proclaimed playboy almost weep for feeling used! She was on break from engagement and celebrity fiancé was just stringing her along. She kept asking him for an answer. Her dad was sick. They had a long relationship. None of these were important enough for him.
Yet when HE came back he started using EXACT same reasons and started pressurising her for an answer. Yet, he was extremely passive that she admitted she had sex with someone just mere hours ago and she'd be with them constantly for a while. Yes, he voiced his displeasure, but she pointed out she'd be violently mad if the tables turned. Then he accused her of stringing him along which HE kept doing to her. She didn't go nasty, didn't retaliate, just broke off the engagement in the most peaceful manner possible so she can be free and single. NOT FOR THE HERO!
however, I still didn't like the book, as I said feels rushed, inconsistent and awkward!
So unrated and thoroughly ranted!

I was unassumingly taking a pleasurable stroll through this damn good story and found myself falling face-first off a mfing HEA cliff out of nowhere. I'm fuming so hard that I'm not even going to attempt memes because they'd all be obscene.

Warning

• This mfing book ENDS at 31%. The other portion is some different book by the author.

• The concluding scene and the epilogue take up 1% of the book, meaning that this story goes from 30% of hopeless, doomed romance to a 1% HEA WITHOUT ANY EXPLANATION AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I'm going to tell you why I still gave it three begrudged, furious, and pried stars....

I Want My Ego Bone Back!

"Her eyes close, and she takes a deep breath. It's almost as if she has to psyche herself up to be nice. All it does is make me want that upper hand even more. She still fucking has it. She's a goddamn dog refusing to let go of a stolen bone."

That about sums up what all but 1% of the book is about.

Characters

A one night stand turns into a professional situation for a scorned man who never allows a woman more than one ride and a woman who recently had a six-year-long ride tell her he needs a break.

Our male MC is a dog and is accustomed to being the one to walk away and never look back at his conquests; the last word is his; the snub, chase, and deflect is his bone to gloat over the kitty. But, what happens when the kitty takes that bone and shoves it so far up his ass that she reaches out and grabs it back with the other hand as it pops from his mouth? Hummmm?

Her...

I liked the female MC, Odessa, from the very start. She's hard enough to be relatable for feminists, but soft enough for the romantics to still appreciate. I f'ing love that she isn't the typical insecure girl who has to ask, 'oh, you like me, you really like me.' *bats eyelashes* She sees through all the BS, such as the hurt feelings scene, and sees the situation for the nitty-gritty truth of it. Love that!

"She's soft edges and dynamite, and that sets her apart from the polluted sea of cut-and-paste beauties.."

In the end, I'm left very unsure of what to say about Odessa. She's never turns into a doormat or TSTL character, but more like she's a glutton for cruelty or something. Some of the shit he says to her to push her away & how he treats her is walking a thin line of abuse. She doesn't take his shit laying down, thus no doormat, but she does keep willingly going back for more.

There are never any consequences, regret, or redemption for the way he treats her, a fact that perturbed me greatly.

Only 14%?!?!?

So, I'm engrossed in this push and pull here, getting to know the characters, and all the hints of subplot playing peek-a-boo with me at 14%.

I'm a really quick reader. I usually, devour an entire book in a matter of hours, not days. I've read an entire trilogy in a day a couple of times. So, imagine my surprise to feel like I've been submerged in this story for hours and feel a very strong investment in these two..... And, then look down to see that I'm only at 14% in progress.

Considering I find the end AT 30 f'ing %, I eventually understand why I felt that way. * still fuming*

Anyway...

"I laugh because this situation is as absurd as it is real. "

^That twist at 14% was something I never saw coming. Bravo! Not often I'm taken aback.

The secondary plots had such promise. The romance had such promise.

But....

I Fell Off A MfIng Cliff

The subplots just conveniently, easily go away. Excellent angst factors and suspense elements are just turned to ash with some BS like... 'gosh, the evil, psycho bitch just goes home and calls it a loss.' Wtf?!? Seriously?!

The romantic plot is even worse. It goes from this slow strained mixture of lust and hate to a fucking HEA out of nowhere. Here's what I mean:

27%- "I hope to God she's (Odessa) not being all jittery because we fucked last night and she decided all of a sudden to develop fucking feelings for me."

27%- "..she'll (Odessa) think I like her or some shit.

29%- "I'm not capable of giving you the things you need."

~ Enter a chapter that fast forwards a month~

29%- "she doesn't ask for labels. We don't hold hands or talk about the future. I don't make promises and she doesn't expect them."

29%- "She's a fool for thinking she can comfort me."

31% "I want to fucking label it. I want to know that tomorrow, when I wake up, no matter what happens, I'm going to have you."

31%- "Say you belong to me."

~Another fast forward Two Fucking Years!!! ~

HEA, complete with marriage and baby carriages.

That shit was the most abrupt change of heart I've ever seen in a book, and worse, there is absolutely NO dialogue, inner thought, or action to explain why we go from him praying she doesn't have feelings for him to professing he can't live without her just 2% later. WTF?!?!?

The only possible explanation I can fathom for such an ending is that the author didn't have a clue how to turn Beck from a selfish, non-feeling asshole into a HEA guy... So she just doesn't even try?!? I dont know!

Bottom Line

This could've been a four-five star book if not for the ending. It takes every once of fairness in me to give this book 3 stars. The story and characters deserve it. The author? Well, she can kiss my ass!

So, This is one of those books you have absolutely no idea if you liked it or just liked it a little bit.

It's a nice story, but not a solid one. A lot of drama felt kind of incomplete. And the ending was definitely way too abrupt.

I loved this book ! The author sucks you in right from the start. Odessa and Beckham was just two lost souls in this world and they found each other after being together for one night, but for them one night was not enough. Their attraction and chemistry was hard fought by both, but the could not stay away from each other. Drama after drama comes up in their life and they find it their dealing with it together, which brings them closer until they finally give in and help each out until the end which I lo loved. I did love this couple!

Taming the Alpha

This series is about men with a difficult upbringing and the women that break through their needed defenses to show them love. And sex, plenty of hot sex. (Rawr).

Beckham is a rich business owner with a thing for flings, mindless and mind blowing sex with no attachments. He meets his match in Odessa, when his fling walks into the office the next day as an employee. They argue, fight, fu... (Ahem). And with some additional drama, and lots of steamy scenes, it's bound to be love.

The writing is solid enough that I fell into the story, as I did with the previous two in the series. It's lovely escapist erotica with a plot and well crafted characters.

This was an okay story. Actually, the story itself was fine. My biggest problem was with the whole FLDS crap. First of all, if you're going to use "FLDS", then you gotta stick to where the main compound actually is, which is HOURS (at least 4) from Salt Lake City. If you don't want to stick to the group, then make up some letters. Don't make up part of them, and not the others. It just annoys me, maybe because I lived in Utah. It's the same with the author's book, Arrogant Bastard. There is a preface about it involving "sister-wives" and mentioned that this story is about a polygamous family in a subset of the Mormon religion. That is not true. The FLDS, RLDS, or any other polygamist group like it is NOT affiliated with the Mormon Chruch. They broke away from the Mormon church and have many teachings inconsistent with the doctrine of the Mormon church. If you're gonna write a book and call out a group, get the group right. It would be like writing an outlaw MC book and making them all clean-cut bankers. That doesn't fit with who they really are. Anyway, this just annoyed me and overshadowed the whole story. The compound where he grew up, had no real impact on the story, so why not just call it a polygamous compound? Why link it with a specific church?
Rant over.

Review: Arrogant Playboy
By: Winter Renshaw
Stars: 4.5 (I wanted a little more story on Bellamy and Dane)

I was given an ARC of Arrogant Playboy for an honest review, so here goes. We meet Odessa and Beckham in Arrogant Master (Beckham is Danes half brother) and I thought this book would continue the story, but it seems to be during the same time period. So I was a little disappointed that we didn't get a little more about Bellamy and Dane but Odessa and Beck's story was a great read. I loved how she gave him back just as much attitude as Beck gave her. Without given away the story some things I thought were a little far fetched, but it's a romance book and it's great to read a book and get lost and that is what I did. Winter writes fantastic books and she did it again with this one and I look forward to many more from her. You don't need to read Arrogant Master to understand the story but I recommend that you read all 3 of the Arrogant books by Winter they are worth the time and money.
Happy reading.

I haven't read a Winter Renshaw book I haven't loved and this book is certainly no exception. God I love watching a cocky man get his ass handed to him by a confident, sassy woman! The story begins as Odessa blows off Beckham King off after a one night stand and hurts his poor little man feelings. Alas it's not the end as fate has plans forcing them to collide once again in a spectacular display of sexual tension and battle of the wills. Beckham has no shortage of crazy ex's to make things a little more interesting, and when one returns unexpectedly and throws a wrench into his perfectly laid plans for his life, Odessa steps up to help him deal. Odessa doesn't lack for relationship challenges either, working through her own man issues courtesy of her ex-fiance. Their bond is tested and strengthened through both laughs and tears, ending in a sweet and satisfying manner.

My favorite "Arrogant" book so far! I received an ARC in return for an honest review. This story had me from the beginning. The sparks that flew between Odessa and Beckham were so hot that I could not put the book down. I love to read stories about strong, independent women and Odessa is the very definition of this. I loved that she surprised Beckham with her attitude--especially after their first encounter when she states, "We're done here, right?" This one scene sets the stage for the entire story. The transformation of Beckham was gradual and I loved that the it wasn't rushed. The story has some interesting twists and turns and will keep your attention all the way to the HEA. Loved, loved, loved the story! Can't wait to see what is next.

I really enjoyed the first half of the book, but I do have to agree that the ending is abrupt. I mean, the ending kind of made sense but I also read the other books in this series since it was included and it seemed to be the author's style? Personally I find it strange because it felt as if things were hurried.

Which is a shame because I actually really liked characters and the premise and I didn't even mind the drama added in later on in the book. Or the fact that really, a lot of their problems could've been solved if they just talked to each other but I can understand why they didn't open up to each other.

IDK. I liked it but at the same time, I'm very confused about the whole thing? IDK.

Really, the three stars are because I really liked the characters. Especially Odessa.

I liked this book, but it was a little slow for me. I think I fell asleep twice. Odessa was in other books by Winter Renshaw but she was portrayed as something she wasn't,. That bothered me. It was a good book nonetheless.

This one was an audio book narrated very well both voices captivating the story which is very important when listening to books. I have listened to some books and not finished just because of the narration. That said the book had its ups and downs to remove the enjoyment from the "romance".

I think that's the crux of it. The romance. They both seem like cynical characters but I think deep down Odessa wasn't but she was always trying to be what he needed. If it weren't for small snippets from his POV that he could like her all would be lost. He broke everything down to sex in his relationships. I think due to his character or past he managed to attract the crazies because he had two OW that were cuckoo.

The plot was twisted on one side - the heroes that somehow left him with a baby. It was odd to have this man be so strongly against having kids he has a vasectomy but so instantly responsible even with the doubt he couldn't be the father. It seemed incongruent to his shown character. Perhaps that's part of his redemption but is was an odd plot to wield.

As far as the heroine is concerned the break from the engagement after being with a guy for six years? To the left. To the left. I mean what woman is sitting around putting up with that? When the shoe is on the other foot her fiancé doesn't like not knowing. But you made your bed buddy. As a reader I really needed this one to blow up but it was all so civilized I'd rather have the confrontation that there was another woman involved. It seemed so obvious. With all the ex partners, current partners and potential partners it lost its romance but didn't leverage the drama it seemed to build but then fizzled.🙃

I didn't realize this was the third book in a series and I wish I read the others first. While this book follows new main characters, Beckham's background would have been more fleshed out (I'm assuming) in the previous installments. There is a lot going on in this book-the main character was raised in a cult, kicked out at as a young teenager, taken in by some random man (along with his brother) and then...somehow becomes a billionaire. I couldn't figure out the jump from cult to billionaire with no real explanation. He has no education and didn't appear super intellectual, street smart or hard working, so I would have loved to know how he went from point A to point B.There is also a crazy ex-fiance, a crazy ex-girlfriend and paternity issues-and this is all just related to Beckham. The main female character, Odessa, has her own issues with a fiance who wants to 'take a break' after he becomes semi-famous (imagine a male Rachel Ray).

Overall-cute read. There is a lot happening in this book and I think it could have been much longer with the story lines played out. Looks like his brother has a book and I'll definitely be checking it out.

Grade: 3/5

This was a weird book, to be honest. To me, it was unconventional because for most of the book I couldn't even feel like the two main characters were developing any kind of relationship, let alone feelings for each other. Almost half of the book the h is pining for her ex fiancee who dumped her and she's rude to the H. Then all of a sudden like the flip of a switch, the roles are reversed and she's in love with the H, the ex fiancee wants her back but now she doesn't want him back, and the H is an a$$***e to her. This happens late in the story. I must have missed the part where they gradually develop feelings. It was all too sudden. And the H, was horrible!! He was a jerk and treated her so badly. I have mixed feelings for this book, because I didn't hate it, but I didn't like the way it was laid out. I also felt that there were elements that could have been better developed and exploited to give a little more depth to the story, but were not properly addressed and utilized.
Anyway, this was very short a and quick, so it wasn't time consuming.

Not one but two crazy ex's in this book. And for it to end where it did? Super pissed off. The epilogue does provide an answer to the court case, but leaves the reader with others.

Also, we get more information about the compound he and Dane grew up on, but did that extra stuff need to be thrown in? It was bad enough, but then what Sophie says also happened seemed like too much. And then why wouldn't he have shared it with Odessa/Sam?

Not to mention that I was slightly confused at the start of the book when they all went to visit Uncle Leo and he was fine. It took my brain a while to shift to the realisation that this book starts before the events in book #2, and continues concurrently in the latter part.

I may need to take a break from Renshaw's early stuff because it really isn't well balanced.

Out of the three books, I would have to say this one was my favorite. No as much religious talk (even though some was thrown in there to describe Beckham's past life). I think Odessa was my favorite heroine in this series. She wasnt timid, shy, had an actual backbone and gave Beckham a run for his money! I was on the edge of my seat with this book half of the time! So many twists and throw a newborn baby that is or isnt Beckham's by this crazy psycho and you have yourself a very good book! LOVED IT!!!

Odessa needed to get a backbone and dump the ex. The whole ex backstory was annoying. Beckham was tortured soul, but Odessa was good for him. Anyway, I quick read that was pretty much worth the time.
