World: The art is solid, the characters are very emotive making the humor and heart stand out. The world building is basic and serves the story, but it's nice to have Umaru's world fill out a bit with new characters and places.
Story: The stories are fun little skits that make you smile and laugh. Fairly ridiculous and cute and fun. There are a lot more little stories that shows you the depth of care that the siblings have for each other (the fever one comes to mind) which is nice. The new character of Kirei is fun and adds a new dynamic to the story and made me giggle. It's simple, it's fun, that's all it needs to be.
Characters: Umaru is fun, she's the foil for all the humor and it's done well. She's over the top and quirky and have a lot of heart. I love the dynamic she has with Taihei and her friends. The relationship between the siblings was a bit more two way this time around and I enjoyed that.
Better than Vol. 1. the chapters in Vol. 2 are more interesting for me. I find that Umaru is less annoying in this volume but I think she's still better portrayed in the anime.
Cute little slices of family life, still all familiar from the anime. I’m starting to want more background on them (like how did they come to live together) and I don’t know if I’ll ever get it. There are only two more volumes available at my library so if it doesn’t happen by then I’ll never get to know. I think the anime may only go through the 3rd volume just based on where things are now.
This was better than Volume 1. Umaru was less annoying in here. I read this because I needed to know what happens when Kirie sees Umaru's inside face and some reviews said that the second volume is better than the first.
Jeeeez...I cat napped after school today. There's no way can sleep now, duh! I wish oniichan would be a little more considerate of my natural rhythms.
Well...I'm off to work. Bwuh?! Huh?! You're not gonna take the day off?! Oh my god, oniichan--are you really going to abandon your sick little sister to go to work? Blanch. Nobody calls out because their little sister has a cold!!
Ah! Hello! This is Doma Taihei's little sister speaking! I'm afraid my brother has a fever today! Waaah!! Who are you calling?! I'm calling in sick for you silly! You need to rest today! You'll start weird rumors! I can do it myself. Give me that!! There!! You need to stay in bed, oniichan! Well, I'm off to do the grocery shopping! H...Hey! Oniichan. Rest up, okay? <3
Oh, oniichan...It's punishment time!! Mwah ha ha ha ha!! Abandoning Umaru in her time of need was a serious crime!! Your sentence will be...super spicy soup with plenty of Tabasco!! Uwee hee hee hee hee! Oh! A leek up the butt would be good, too!! Keh! Keh! Keh! Perfect. Now, time to hurry home!
To begin with, an older brother and a little sister shouldn't be living together in one room! We need private space, right?! Whuuuh? I really don't ca...
But it's Umaru's precious day off...Isn't there anything cuter to wear? You don't have to look cute for a walk in the park.
Umaru...why do you act so different when you're outside? Huh? Jeeeez oniichan. Every girl has a different face she wears when she goes out.
Looking for anything in particular? ACK...!! Sales staff!
I don't mind buying you a replacement pudding cup...but first, we need to uncover the truth! Then just go buy it already...
Huh...? Wh...why're they starin'...? Whoa! Check out the rack on that girl! H...huh? Come to think of it...the whole way from Akita to Tokyo...no one's...looked me in the eyes...
I...I didn't know he did stuff like that... Jeez, I just don't know what I'm going to do with him. Heh heh heh...I'll get my revenge by trashing his reputation!
Glad to see that my previous hope for Umaru to be less of a brat has come true... at least a little bit. Learning to appreciate the food Taihei makes her; getting up early on a Sunday for a walk; making time for her friends and making new ones...
Yeah, she's growing (slowly, slowly, slowly) into a more responsible person, but she's still got a long way to go. And how in the world does Kirie not realize that the "inside face" Umaru is "outside face" Umaru? Is this a Japanese culture thing? Or is it just a hyperbole for comedy sake? I'm thinking the latter with a small core of the former.
More fun antics with Umaru and her brother. This volume had more chapters than the first centered on mini-battles being fought between the two siblings, which I enjoyed. I appreciated the small efforts to help show that they genuinely cared for each other, but the volume’s best parts were when they were subtly fighting each other over some mundane goal (e.g. going to school or getting a video game).
This book was really funny and interesting, I watched the anime first but I wanted to see how the manga would compare. I really enjoyed Ebina and Kirie’s personalities, they were both so unique and special in their own way. And this book highlights that behind every ‘pretty popular girl’ is a person who has flaws just like everyone else. The only thing I wonder is what is the hype over umaru at her school? I mean, Sylphyn and Kirie’s designs are better in my opinion.
The jokes in this one hit me a lot better than the ones in the first volume, and I suspect a large part of that is due to how funny Umaru's new friend is. I wanna say the jokes themselves felt a little less one-note this time around.
Sin una gran historia... Por ahora... Pero situaciones divertidas y comunes (tiene años que vi la adaptación de anime y me estoy poniendo al tanto del manga)
