Meh...

I wish MS. Banks would write the third book in the Montgomerys and Armstrongs series and leave the Greeks be. These books are freakin' awful and so badly researched that you wouldn't believe that a succesful author actually wrote them. I know that a Harlequin romance isn't supposed to be the epitome of literature but come on...


I was browsing through the new releases and this came up. My dislike of this series hasn't faded yet.

The Tycoon's Pregnant Mistress.
I should have known better- this trilogy was cheap on Amazon Kindle and I bought it. What a mistake.

So utterly unbelievable, unpleasant and ridiculous.

Chrysander and Marley (isn’t that a dog’s name?) have been happily together for 6 months. Then in less than 30 minutes, the heavens fall in:-
-She gets pregnant,
-she wants to know where their relationship is going,
- he tells her she’s just his mistress,
-he finds company papers in her bag and decides she’s betrayed him, and he cruelly kicks her out,
- she gets kidnapped and
- is rescued 3 months later with amnesia and
- Chysander decides he should help her.
- He’s not even looked for her in the 3 months to check she’s okay,
- He still believes she’s betrayed him,
- doesn’t realise his PA has the hots for him and
-never thinks she had much better access to the papers than Marley. I had guessed it was her in chapter 1!!!

Eventually, we discover the PA was indeed the one who sold the papers and had destroyed the 2 ransom demands ( and weren’t we so surprised - not!). Grovelling from the hero - and all is well.

Sorry this was a new writer for me - but no more. The writing itself was quite good but the storyline was awful.

I kept waiting for the bit where the hero realised by himself, that of course Marley hadn’t betrayed him - but it took far too long. Marley’s ordeal was unnecessarily harsh. The whole kidnap plot was an obvious ploy to explain the amnesia. It added nothing to the main story otherwise. I found the other 2 stories in the trilogy so boring and ridiculous that I didn’t finish them. What a waste of money.

The Tycoon's Rebel Bride
Bella is such an uninteresting, juvenile heroine. She behaved like a spoiled juvenile, (despite being 22). She is determined to seduce the hero Theon (who was so boring and controlling as to be a parody), whom she’s loved since she was a girl despite having barely met him. She was so self-centred and ridiculous. I was bored stupid and skimmed to the end. Having a tattoo and a belly ring and wearing inappropriate clothes do not an interesting rebel make. There was nothing to make me believe he would fall in love with her. I did not like this one of the trilogy either.

The Tycoon's Secret Affair
This was just, marginally the best in the trilogy but I still couldn't engage. Sorry - this writer is just not my cup of tea. Her characters are one-dimensional cardboard cutouts and the plots are unbelievable even for Mills and Boon land.

Sorry because the author clearly has a niche market and her actual writing is good. Just not my taste. I wonder if it's because I know lots of Greeks and they are nothing like these caricatures.

What a great trio of books. I really enjoyed two out of the three. Bride I did not care for. The other two were super! I have read them many times and will continue to do so when the mood strikes.

Het eerste deel gaat over Chrysander anetakis, de oudste van drie broers. Hij heeft een relatie met Marley. Op het moment dat hij terugkeert van zakenreis wil ze praten over hun toekomst maar daarin is hij nogal terughoudend. Opdat zelfde moment ontdekt hij gestolen papieren in haar tas en beeindigt hij de relatie. Wat hij echter niet weet is dat ze zwanger is van hem. Totaal overstuur loopt ze naar buiten en wordt daar in vol daglicht ontvoerd. Drie maanden later hoort Chrysander haar naam op de televisie. Hij ontdekt dat ze ontvoerd was en dat ze zwanger is van zijn kind. Terwijl hij eigenlijk nog steeds woedend op haar is gaat hij haar opzoeken in het ziekenhuis. Wanneer hij daar aankomt ontdekt hij dat ze geheugenverlies heeft en zich niets meer herinnert behalve haar eigen naam. Aan de ene kant nog boos op haar en op de andere kant bezorgt om haar en haar kind besluit hij voor haar te zorgen. Geleidelijk aan worden ze terug verliefd op elkaar maar wat zal er gebeuren als haar geheugen terugkeert en welke traumatische ervaring ze heeft gehad.
Het tweede deel gaat over Theron Anetakis. Zijn vader had aan zijn vriend beloofd om altijd op zijn dochter isabella te passen. Nu dat zijn eigen vader ook gestorven is komt deze taak op de schouders van Theron terecht. Ze is van plan om even naar New York te komen om daarna door te vliegen naar Europa. Hij ziet haar liever vertrekken dan komen nu hij zelf wil trouwen met Alannis. Maar op het moment dat hij haar ziet geraakt hij helemaal in de war van haar. Isabella is al haar hele leven verliefd op Theron en nu ze volwassen is zet ze alles op alles om zijn liefde te winnen.
Het derde deel gaat over Piers Anetakis. Na een zeer passionele avond met Jewel kan hij haar moeilijk vergeten. Op het moment dat hij te weten komt dat ze eigenlijk zijn nieuwe assistente is laat hij haar ontslaan omdat hij geen relatie met medewerkers wil. Op dat moment verdwijnt ze uit zijn leven. Vijf maanden later belt ze hem op vanuit het ziekenhuis. Ze heeft dringend zijn hulp nodig en is zwanger van hem. Hij gelooft niet dat het zijn kind is maar beslist toch om haar te helpen.
Het was eens iets heel anders dan ik gewoon ben van Maya Banks maar daarom niet minder goed. Het romantische stond meer op de voorgrond. Alhoewel de drie verhalen heel clichématig geschreven zijn wil je toch weten hoe het verhaal telkens afloopt. Een typisch boek om weg te dromen en volledig te ontspannen. Af en toe waren mijn gedachten ook in het paradijs ;)

I love reading these books as they are such a pleasant switch off for me but I must say book one is my favourite.
1 - THE TYCOON’S PREGNANT MISTRESS
I have the older version, both paperback and ebook.
A real Harlequin story with the wronged mistress being thrown out after being framed. No questions, no reasoning just out you go.
Poor Marley is pregnant but before she can talk this over with her lover Chrysander, he is throwing her out the door for something she hasn’t done. She is then kidnapped but the ransom demands are sent via the conniving secretary who framed her in the first place so Chrysander knows nothing about her kidnapping until he sees Marley on the news MONTHS later, when the kidnappers give up waiting for any comeback to their demands and tell the police where she is.
Of course he rushes to the hospital, then says he is the fiancé. HUH. Chrysander and his two brothers have maligned Marley for ages and when she comes back into the picture, it is a very cool reception for poor Marley.
Marley in the meantime has been so traumatised during her kidnapping she has amnesia, so of course Chrysander gets to take her home.
I really enjoyed this story especially when Marley is talking to the specialist and says no one asked her if she had done it.
In true harlequin style Marley forgives Chrysander as soon as he says he is sorry.
I did like how Theron came through and helped Marley.
2 - THE TYCOON’S PREGNANT BRIDE
I have the older version, both paperback and ebook.
This is Theron’s story. I found I really liked Theron and how much of a gentleman he was in this is own story, after being such a nice guy to Marley in book one. He treats both the women in his life, his intended future bride and Isabella well.
He is planning to marry a good Greek girl whom he is friendly with as they will make a good match and to secure an heir for himself. But suddenly his ward is all grown up and throwing herself at him.
Isabella is the ward of Theron and has crushed on him for years. She sets her cap at him and blatantly pursues him even with the ten year age gap.
Isabella starts off immature and selfish but grew on me. After overhearing a conversation, she realised how childish she had been acting and stepped back to allow Theron to choose the bride he wanted.
3 - THE TYCOON’S SECRET AFFAIR
I have the older version, both paperback and ebook.
A good fun read that rounds out the last of these brothers, not my favourite but I don’t hate it either.
Typical harlequin she done me wrong, so now I don’t trust any woman but will marry you as you are pregnant with my child. Damn those condoms.
Piers is likeable enough and gives Jewel everything except himself emotionally. When he believes Jewel has lied to him he throws her out, sound familiar, read book one. When he realises his mistake, he hunts for heroine who of course forgives him but also brings back the son he loved but was not his. Confused, read the story.

Havoc, thy name is Marley, Bella and Jewel!

Marley and Chrysander - Mistress and Tycoon, until he accused her of corporate espionage. Marley, heartbroken, ran into the street and right into the grasp of kidnappers. Various months later she was rescued and was hospitalized, pregnant and with amnesia. This is where the story truly begins.
Bella and Theron - Bella has been in love with Theron since her early teens. She has finally grown up and at 22 she is ready to capture her mate. In NYC, Theron helps her find and apartment and settle in. He then informs her, as her guardian, he has eligible friends he wants her to meet to see if they are agreeable marriage material for her. He then informs her, his fiancée is coming from Greece with her Mom to finalize their engagement and set up his wedding. This is where the story gets sneaky and convoluted.
Jewel and Piers - They had a 1 night stand which was erotic and fulfilling. The next day she starts her new job and guess who her boss is...Mr. 1-night stand. Piers calls Human Resources and tells them to transfer her to another hotel but the communication breaks apart so instead of transferring, Jewel got fired. Months down the line, Jewel has to call Piers because she is pregnant and was told she had to have absolute bed rest. She can't work, so he has to become responsible for them. Piers rushes to her side and the insult games begin.

Pour une fan comme moi de Maya Banks, la question ne s’est pas posée. J’étais obligée de connaître ses nouvelles aventures. Et j’ai pris la bonne décision. Comment ne pas être embarqué avec délices dans ses histoires remplis de bels hommes, d’exotisme et d’amour. Les rebondissements sont présents mais malgré le nombre de pages, ils sont utilisés à bon escient, et réaliste. On s’attache à toute cette famille, et on prend plaisir à les retrouver dans chaque tome. Et que dire des petits mots grecs ? Rien de plus délicieux.

Mon coup de cœur revient à Piers, qui malgré un passé abominable prouve que la confiance peut se reconstruire et clos cette intégrale en beauté.

This is a collection of three different books: The Tycoon's Pregnant Mistress, The Tycoon's Rebel Bride and The Tycoon's Secret Affair. All of them are pretty classic Mills and Boon affairs, but I did enjoy some more than others. I think my favourite of the three was the Tycoon's Pregnant Mistress where I really enjoyed the relationship between Marley and Chrysander, even though some of his actions when she has amnesia are a bit dodgy. With The Tycoon's Rebel Bride and The Tycoon's Secret Affair, I didn't enjoy the relationships as much, especially between Jewel and Piers. I just couldn't get into it.
Good short romances although some in the collection are better than others. 3 stars.

Final Score - 5 Stars!

I loved these books when I first read them years ago. It was well past time to time to revisit Chrysander, Theron, and Piers and the women who tamed them - finally. Marley, Bella, and Jewel certainly gave them a run for their money.

I would love to see what they and their children are up to now.

Ik vond het zoals ik al de boeken van Maya Banks geweldig !
Al vond ik het jammer dat het 3 verhalen in 1 boek waren ,
ze hadden heel gemakkelijk apparte boeken kunnen zijn.
Ik vond het jammer dat de verhalen zo snel snel leken .
Het las heel snel en luchtig ,
elke keer ik in een leesdip terecht kom kan ik op Maya rekenen om me eruit te halen.
Het verhaal van Chrysander ( help wat een naam ) en Marley doet niet zijn begin eer aan.
Het had een heel spannend verhaal kunnen zijn , het begon enorm spannend , maar dan was het ineens toch niet die richting dat het uit ging ,
maar daarom vond ik het verhaal niet minder mooi !
De tekst op de achterkant over het verhaal van Theron en Isabelle vind ik helemaal niet juist!
'Tomboy' 'affaire' vind het niet passen bij het verhaal zelf.
Het mooiste verhaal van deze bundel vind ik denk ik toch het verhaal van Piers en Jewel.
Met natuurlijk een super mooi einde !
Maar anders als dat hadden we niet verwacht van Maya Banks .
De dag dat ze ons met een verschrikkelijk einde laat zitten is de dag dat ik zot draai.

You can't just read one

The Crysander story was the one that cost half a star in my rating. Why? I couldn't help but feel there was more to his story with his PA. SERIOUSLY. The way he treated Marley was complete bs. All the brothers have their demons but for whatever reason Crysander and the youngest brother Piers are the most messed up. Why didn't he call to check on the legitimacy of his and Jewels paternity results? I get that he expected their relationship to fail because of his past with Joanna. Theron and his ward, Isabella was the saving grace. Funny yes. Jewel, Marley, and Isabella are three genuine characters. You can't help but to love them.

One of my favorite Trilogies

Maya Banks is one of my favorite authors and I always find when I'm in a book funk I can always read something of hers that will have me back into my reading game.

The Anetakis Tycoon Trilogy is one hot 🔥 read and so are the Anetakis brothers. In this Trilogy you will me Chrysander, Theron and Piers. Each book will.cover each of the brothers stories. Just beware they are some serious dominant alpha makes that have a soft spot for a certain women. This Trilogy will have you on the edge of your seat hanging off every word until.the very end.

Une petite déception pour cette romance contemporaine qui aurait mérité d'être plus complexe et approfondie pour vraiment faire vibrer son lectorat même si le trio grec est assez craquant. Il manque de surprises, les intrigues son un peu cousues de fil blanc et cela m'a vraiment laissé sur ma faim. Une romance qui a maintenant quelques années et qui n'a pas forcément bien supporté ces années en plus...

Awesome

I just finished reading these books and they were awesome from beginning to end! The characters are interesting and the dynamic between them was captivating.
