Laurann Dohner - Coto's Captive (Zorn Warriors #5)

Lynn is tracking a dangerous, wounded animal, which turns out to be a big, sexy alien instead. And he’s the hottest guy she’s ever met!

Coto’s trip to Earth takes a dangerous turn. He is attacked and injured. The only high point is the courageous woman who tends his wounds. Coto desires her and he will never let her go!

Leora Gonzales - Bridal Bonds (Warriors Of Phaeton #2)

Sequel to Bridal Pact

Andi signed up for the Bridal Pact, but what with having to dissolve her possibly sabotaged mismatch and being kidnapped by extremists determined to wreck the Earth-Phaeton warrior alliance, her space adventure sucks big-time. But before she can catch the next shuttle back to Earth, she’s claimed by two new suitors, the dominant Rodin and the happy-to-try-it Tamin...

The doctors come as a pair, one warrior providing the discipline she didn’t know she craved and the other lightening her bruised heart. But bonding to not one but two alien warriors? If only Andi dares to try...

Jaid Black - No Way Out: Kari (Trek Mi Q'an #8)

Written to stand-alone, but we recommend you read the stories in sequence for maximum enjoyment.

Whisked from Earth to the matriarchal planet of Galis by forces unknown, Kara Summers finds refuge in the mountainous crystal fortress of the Gy’at Li sector. Taken in and renamed Kari by the sector’s High Mystik, she spends seventeen years being honed into a formidable warrior. Sent to Crystal City to complete her training, Kari Gy’at Li knows there is one species of male she must avoid at all costs because of their proclivity for stealing women - the warriors of Tryston. When Kari is hunted by an eight-foot-tall muscled warrior, she realizes what she must do - vanquish the predator or become the prey!

This book gives readers the backstory on Kari and Death; their total story will be told over the course of the next three books.

Tara Nina - Escape

Paoni Warrior Shia must capture or kill Kal, an escaped Lanius -the worst of alien criminals - but she has no idea who she is truly up against!

Kal knows his imprisonment was unjustified. Turning the tables, he takes Shia captive, igniting her curiosity and a lust she can’t control. But siding with him will put both her heart and her life on the line!

Review

First off, let me say I've only read the first two stories, Coto’s Captive by Laurann Dohner and Bridal Bonds by Leora Gonzales.

I really enjoyed reading Coto's Captive. Laurann never fails to deliver a great story and I really liked both main characters. Coto was simply perfect. Once he sees Lynn, he's determined to keep her and also convince her that he can make her happy in the long term. He's super protective of her and I loved seeing his gentle side. As for Lynn, she's a strong female character, who is smart, loyal and does in the end the right thing.
All in all was this story for me a 4,5 read. :)

Bridal Bonds is as said in the blurb a sequel to Bridal Pact. It starts where the first story left off, so it was a bit difficult to get into the plot. I wished I read the first story before starting this one, it would definitely made a more enjoyable read. For such a short read (around 100 pages) the story has more depth than I expected. At the end there are also some sad scenes that I wished didn't happen. The only thing that bothered me was the mentioning of both Hs' sexual past. I think the story would be much better without that info.
Overall a 3 stars read. :)

Weak 3 stars. Four short stories. Two are incomplete.

The following two stories bothered me. I feel like I’m wasting my time when I read a portion of a story. Both of these were like a small piece (or maybe half) of a long story.

NO WAY OUT: KARI by Jaid Black.
In fairness the book description said that Kari’s story will be continued in future books. But that doesn’t help my unsatisfied feeling of seeing a couple meet and wondering how and when they might be together again. I’ve read all the Trek books and vaguely recall Kari being introduced in a previous book. I would much prefer the entire Kari story in one complete book, not turned into partial stories and spread out over three or more books. I love JB’s writing, but I don’t like this incompleteness.

ESCAPE by Tara Nina.
This was pretty good until the end. Good guys are fleeing from bad guys and the story stops. It’s the middle of the story. The romance was pretty good. At first the man and woman are enemies. Some hot sex follows.

------------------------------------------------------

I’m happy to say that the following two short stories were completed.

3 ½ stars to COTO’S CAPTIVE by Laurann Dohner.
It was enjoyable with a nice and sweet ending.

Weak 3 stars to BRIDAL BONDS by Leora Gonzales.
This was ok, but I felt it needed more character development and more relationship development. I wasn’t drawn in enough.

-----------------------------------------------------
DATA for all the stories:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 2 to 4 per story. Setting: two are set on other planets. Two are set on earth with spaceship travel bringing aliens to earth. Copyright: 2015. Genre: erotic sci-fi romance.

Anthology. I only finished two of the stories and those averaged 2.5 stars out of 5 which is really bad (to me). Not the best anthology I've read.

1. Coto’s Captive by Laurann Dohner. First off, she's not really a captive because she goes willingly. Secondly, it was an okay story. I kept looking for the word love in there somewhere especially since she was willing to leave her planet after one sexual encounter but nope, everyone else in her life had stuff going on and she was probably going to lose her job - so why not. 3 stars.

2. Bridal Bonds by Leora Gonzales. I just could not get into this story at all. I didn't care for either Andi or the guys. So since I didn't finish it, no rating.

3. No Way Out: Kari by Jaid Black Ugh! This story seemed like the idea of one but it wasn't fleshed out at all. A real disappointment since I usually like this author. 2 stars.

4. Escape by Tara Nina. Hell is actually a prison in the Earth's core and when convicts escape, it's an earthquake or tsunami, or whatever. There's a guard and she's super cocky thinking it's fun to get the baddies until things turn bad. I was so bored with this story. I kept doing other things, read a paragraph or two, did something else, read a paragraph. I gave us. No rating because I didn't finish it.

Just read this for Kari and Death's story been waiting forever and although I am really glad that Ms. Black's writing the Trek Mi Q'an series again and getting more of Kari and Death's story, I feel disappointed too that it will be short stories and not a whole book like the other couples. This story brought us back into the Trek Mi Q'an universe and it's nice to read up on the past couples. Kari and Death deserve their own book!

I'm not completely done reading this book, but I love it already based on Laurann Dohner and Jaid Black's stories.

Zorn warriors are back in the game! I have a special place in my heart for this series because it was how I discovered Laurann Dohner. It did not disappoint. Sexy Zorn warriors, action, tension and oh so delicious love scenes.

Over way too soon IMO. Cannot wait for more of these warriors.

And man Jaid Black, the Queen of Ellorascave knocked it out of the park as well. When I first started reading erotica I purchased exclusively from EC, New Concepts Publishing and Loose ID. Jaid Black and her Trek series is always a pantie scorcher.

Death was so hot.

It was like a sexy, orgasm inducing trip down memory lane. I'm mad but sad at the same time because now I want to read Dari's story and complete Kara's like YESTERDAY.

Even if I didn't enjoy the other participants books, which I'm sure won't be the case, these two stories made this anthology worth buying.

Leora Gonzalez is my new fav author. I picked up Bridal Pact in order to prepare for her submission and it is so good. It wasn't the complete 5 stars as the first in the series, but it was still good. Two sexy men to call your own. Grab the lube and let's get it on! hehe Definitely a great read.

I only got this book to read Laurann Dohner's story. The good news is it's FINALLY another Zorn book. I discovered Laurann Dohner on the Zorn books and considering how prolific she is, or was, it was disappointing that she seemed to run out of steam on that series after only four books, two which I still reread every now and again, and she moved on to the Cyborg books (do not like) and the species books (which I adore) and she has started another series. I wish she'd finish the series she has before she started a new one. The reviews aren't the best on the new series.

The bad news is it's only a short story, and when I say short, I mean really short. It's about Coto (I remembered his name but not which book he was in because it's been years since the last Zorn book), but to be honest who cares because it's a Zorn book! It was a cute story and I really enjoyed it. I just wish it had been longer. I know she intends to write one or two more Zorn books, I just hope it's not years before they come. She hasn't been anywhere near as prolific since she had a stroke a year or two ago. I'm so glad she slowly getting better, I really am for her sake, and I hope she gets back to full steam eventually as I need more Zorn and Species books! I sound totally selfish there, but I love her books and we need more!

This review is only for the Laurann Dohner story.

Even though this was a short story it was still very good. Even though it was a case of insta love, I believed the story. I liked how Lynn was a tracker and that Coto saw her as an equal. He thought her tracking skills were hot.

Very cute ending. I hope Laurann writes more of the Zorn warrior books.

Laurann Dohner, "Coto's Captive" (Zorn Warriors #5); 3 stars
Coto was the hunk that helped save Brenda when she ran away with Rever in "Tempting Rever". I wondered if he'd ever get his HEA, and here it is. After crash landing on Earth along with the ship of pirates they had been chasing, Coto ends up getting attacked by vicious dogs while trying to find his superior who landed in an escape pod. Lynn works for animal control and responds to a call from the loser owner of the crazed dogs. She heads off into the woods to find the mysterious animal who fought off the dogs. Lots of assumptions and silly attempts at subterfuge later, and Lynn finds herself helping Coto and falling for him at the same time. It's sweet, but not as much fun as the first 4 books. It just seemed a bit too easy at the end I guess. But I still enjoyed reading about Coto getting his girl.

Leora Gonzales, "Bridal Bonds" (Bridal Pact #1.5); 2 stars
This is the sequel to Bridal Pact, which I haven't read. I'd like to read it but find the price a bit prohibitive. I didn't think this story was written well enough to charge so much. But this was a fun story for the most part. It was darker than I was expecting, because it comes across as fluff. This is not a good thing. It made the dark parts of the story feel slapped on. Andi was a bride for a Phaeton Alien named Zane. The Phaetons have a pact with Earth to take any willing women in exchange for healthcare technology. When Zane and Andi met, they realized there was no 'zing'. So they remain friends, but there are two other aliens who would love to step in as her Husbands. Menage is not my thing, and this didn't change my mind. It's a decent 'Mars needs Women' type story, but nothing special. I can't say as I felt a 'zing' for any of the characters.

Jade Black, "No Way Out" (Trek Mi Q'an #11); dnf
I just couldn't finish this one, and there didn't seem much point to. Unless you want to buy the serial sequels to follow. I read several from this series ages ago, and it was titillating but not much more. The stories were sloppy and often hard to follow. I kinda remembered the loose end from one of the stories that this one follows. But frankly there were so many loose ends, I gave up reading her books.

Tara Nina, "Escape"; 4 stars
I really enjoyed this story, although again, it is an introduction to a series and so doesn't actually have an HEA but more of an HFN. Still I liked the characters and the world building. Shia kicks ass and there are alluring hints to her background that promise more good stories to come. Kal is pretty cool too and there were twists to the plot that I didn't see coming. Basically, Hell isn't really what we think it is, but an intergalactic jail and Shia is a Paoni. They are the guards set to stop the prisoners from escaping and the humans from finding out about the extraterrestrials. Each Paoni has a specific region that they police and Shia's is the middle of nowhere. But sure enough, here comes a warning and out of the ground come 3 criminals set to escape. She kicks butt but one of the criminals isn't the usual. There's intrigue, deception, corruption and good action and a sweet set up for more books to come.

Zorn Warriors are back. Coto and several Zorn Warriors have crash landed on Earth after being in a battle with the Collis. Argis Vhon and Coto have been separated from the other Zorn Warriors. Coto has been attacked by dogs guarding the pot growing operation of the local creep drug dealer. Even wounded by the dogs Coto manages to destroy the dogs and get away. Lynn the animal control officer for the area sets out to find the animal that killed the dogs. She find Coto wounded and in desperate need of assistance. Coto has seen his brothers of heart fall in love with Earth women and now understands their feelings.

Coto 4stars
5th in the series
Good quick Zorn story set on Earth as the Alien Zorn pose as leprechauns looking for the lost member Vhon.
It does take long for Lynn to track down Coto even less to figure out he's different not to mention injured.

The next two stories were great as well. The last however I wasn't a fan of. I just could not get into it.

I was so happy to find this in my library, two authors and series I really love and one author I like.
Loved Cotos' Captive by Laurann Dohner but was so aggrieved to find a Trek Mi Quan book that was not complete.
LAURANN DOHNER - COTO'S CAPTIVE - ZORN WARRIORS 5
I loved that we get Coto's story at last. I have had a bit of a soft spot for him since we met.
A great short read with likeable H's and a nasty little drug runner that needed to be exterminated.
Not sure who was whom’s captive in this story.
I liked how versatile and competent Lynn was and able to hold her own.
I would love to know what Lynn packed. I am not sure I would even know what to grab going to another planet.
Great epilogue.
LEORA GONZALES - BRIDAL BONDS - BRIDAL PACT 2
I had not read this author before.
Found this a good read and wanted to read the first book but was not paying the asking price.
An interesting story that I enjoyed but it was lacking excitement right up until the author ruined it for me.
Why kill Zane? That was just so wrong on so many fronts, especially when he had just gotten his match.
I hate authors who snatch your feel good vibe away from you. I read to get HEA's, not cry tears of pain.
I will not be reading any books by this author again.
JAID BLACK - NO WAY OUT: KARI - TREK MI Q’AN 11
This is the back story on Death and Kari, not the eagerly awaited book I expected.
Really annoyed me to not get a full story and HEA for Death and Kari.
I researched and found out this is the back story on Death and Kari. Real bummer as it turns out it will be told over the next three books. Have waited forever for this book and it seems it will be years until it is written and published.
So not cool.
TARA NINA - ESCAPE
Not sure if this is the start of a series, feels like it.
Another author who takes years to get a book out, have been waiting for the last book in the MacKinnon’s for years so was surprised to see this from her.
A good tale that I found interesting with its twists and turns.

When reading a bundle of books it's really hard to rate it as a whole because of the individual stories.

Coto, Book 5 - Zorn Series by Laurann Dohner - 3 stars

The book felt incomplete. The stories from the series had a little more action and couple interaction.
I liked Coto from Rever's story but I didn't get much of him.
The Zorn crashed on Earth after being attacked by the Collis and Coto was looking for Argis Vohn. After being attacked by dogs he is found by Lynn. The connect and eventually bound. Very short story.
I hope though that Laurann Dohner comes back to these series because there are more stories to tell.

The Bridal Pact - 2 stars.
It was my first read by Leora Gonzales. I was hopeful until I realized it's a ménage.

Andi was paired with Zane but soon after they realized that they are just friends so she was supposed to get back to earth. Kidnapped in the mean time with other brides Andi helps them and in return she is asked to stay longer with the Warriors.
The two warriors from the ship want to marry her because they like sharing and the find her suitable to their needs.
The fact that these two, Rodin and Tamin, talked most of the time about their past sexual encounters was irrelevant and unnecessary to the whole story.

I am not a ménage fan and even more into the D/S. While I can understand this is a fantasy cannot stop from comparing it to a porn movie with aliens.
The author has spent a lot of time recollecting what happened to Andi when kidnapped and after at the medical area.
There was not enough to justify the pairing with the two doctors.
Clearly not a story for me.

KARI by Jaid Black - 1 star
I never liked the series that Jaid Black wrote so this book is no exception. I find then over the board porn books with no plot and meaning. Reading about some characters having fun in the sack it's not my kind of story.

Coto's captive
By Laurann Dohner

Zorn Warriors is an awesome series,I've read every book and this one was just as good as the others. Laurann Dohner gives her readers exactly what they want, who doesn't love a big strong male who is completely devoted to the object of his affections. Coto and Lynn were made for each other and I loved reading their story.

Escape
By Tara Nina

Shia and Kal had chemistry right from the start and I loved seeing the evolution of their relationship. I loved everything about his book, from the use of hell as a prison to the names of other planets and species. Also the fact that another species created everything in the universe captured my interest completely. I hope there will be another book and I hope it comes out soon.

Coto's story is good but the rest are unknown to me

I only read 1 of the four novellas in this book, Laurann Dohner's Zorn Warrior series. Coto's story was short and sweet. This is one of my favorite LD series and I'd love to see more full length books.
I'm sorry I didn't know anything about the other novella's but those series all have quite a few books already and I'm not interested in reading through all of them. This is why I don't like separate novellas grouped in one book. I have to buy everything in order to get the novella I want. I'd rather just buy the book I want.

Only read the first two books so far and hope the second two are as good.
I'm a big fan of Laurann and this story about Coto was shorter than I would have liked but I still enjoyed it and want to know what happens next. The characters were hot and the banter at times funny, she's one tough little cookie.
Second book was apparently a sequel to a book I hadn't read so I had to read between the lines working out why it felt like it had started in the middle. I did have tears when the character I liked died, though the rest with the leading female and her bond with the two doctors seemed a little rushed. That's what happens in a short story I guess, though I still enjoyed it.

Coto's Captive - I absolutely adore this series and this installment was well overdue! Great story by Ms. Dohner though I couldn't wrap my head around how Coto got so thrashed by 4 dogs. Not the stuff to inspire confidence. Four stars.

Bridal Bonds - great sequel to Bridal Pact but what happened to Zane was bullshit. Four stars.

No Way Out: Kari - DNR.

Escape - where did the rest go?! It was so promising - like reading the first 5 chapters of a novel then wondering where the rest of the pages went! Wonderful strong and smart heroine. I see great things for this series. Four stars.
