Ecko Endgame by Dani Ware is the third book in the Ecko series after Ecko Rising and Ecko Burning. Being honest it took me a while to get into the first book Ecko Rising, the mix of sci-fi and fantasy seemed strange at first and it took time for the characters to grow on me, but after the first couple of hundred pages things changed, I started to really enjoy the book, the mix of sci-fi and fantasy started to gel really well and I started to care about the characters their story and I was hooked on the series.
Now after finishing Endgame I can say that the journey over the three books is well worth your time, the author has created a great world and a great set of characters who inhabit it, the world is well developed and rich in lore while the characters from the main cast to the smaller bit part characters are all well thought out and individual. Endgame takes place directly after the events in Burning and while it could technically be read as a stand alone book, to get far more out of the story and characters I would definitely recommend reading the other two books beforehand.
Throughout the series along with Ecko, characters like Lugan, Triq, Redlock, Amathea, The Bard, Maugrim, Phylos, Jayr, Ress and Kas Vahl Zaxaar all play a big part in the story and while he isn't always the main focus of the book, the series or the story to me this is Ecko's tale, he is a really unique captivating often times sarcastic character and after finishing Endgame I was left with the same feeling as I had when I finished Emperor of Thorns (The Broken Empire trilogy by Mark Lawrence) and that is that just like with Jorg Ancrath, while the character may not be to everyone's taste, if you stick with Ecko then he will grow and develop as a character before your very eyes and he will take you through a range of emotions on an extremely enjoyable epic journey.
All in all, Ecko Endgame is a great conclusion and a fitting ending to Ecko's story. To any fantasy fan out there or book fan in general just looking for something abit different I would highly recommend this book and series.
