A hotel on the outskirts of London in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. A brutal couple, Lee and Mandy, arrive in a van with two captive women held as sex slaves. Lee and Mandy think the hotel is abandoned, a place to find food and shelter. However, Terry, a former employee who has made the hotel his own, has other ideas.
After the Plague is a novella by four-time Parsec Award winning author, Mike Bennett. It contains scenes of explicit violence and very strong language.
Excellent Zombie story! I'm never really sure what to expect from a book narrated by the author, but I really enjoyed this one! Great zombie apocalypse story about a girl abused as a sex slave and her escape from captivity. There are no graphic sex scenes, but there is some adult language, so this may not be suitable for a younger audience. Great story and narration!
This is the first four star I’m giving anything written by Mike Bennett, normally he gets five for me. And he only gets four stars because this doesn’t feel finished! I want more! It seems to just end. But up until it does just end it’s the best zombie reading I’ve ever done in my life. Bennett’s special power is being able to take a genre that is supposedly played out in writing it so well…That it just doesn’t matter. I feel like he would be able to take any subject matter and make it seem brand new and never written about before. I really hope he goes back and does a part two or a follow up. I am psychically uncomfortable with the fate of these characters.
I don't normally go for novellas, but I was instrigued by the summary. Quite a well written storyline for a novella. In a short space of time, Mike was able to set the scene set the tone of the book very well. I was drawn in from the first chapter. I was very pleased when the bad guys died.
This is one of my favorite author/ narrators! While zombie stories have been a bit overused as of late, leave it to Mike Bennett to give the idea a nasty twist! I enjoyed this fun novella, it wrapped up nicely, and left me wanting more. Bravo!
