Kate and Hemming return in the Kate Fox series from Grace E. Pulliam.
What would it be like to lose him?
Winning the Three Kings Game means I am one step closer to discovering the answer. Hemming and Helen, the cursed and immortal twins, were plagued with eternity but long for conclusion, and as the last of my family name, the responsibility of extinguishing the hellhounds falls to me.
Why would a painfully average girl like me be given extraordinary power?
A wickedness resides within my own heart, bleeding out of nowhere at the worst possible moments, cementing me as the primary target for the notorious Blood of Christ Baptist Church. I’d lived in their world, void of hope, magic, and miracles. I was held as prisoner in the tiny, hateful town where the inhabitants never truly escaped. They always returned.
I cast aside the little-girl fantasy of what my life could be like in order to survive the Three Kings Game, to escape the clutches of my past, and to strengthen my future. I believed victory might bring me peace.
Even better than the first book. Grace Pulliam is an incredible writing. I am always tempted to dive directly into her narratives without hesitation and never have I been disappointed. Kate Fox is intriguing and one of my favorite characters to read about. I am beyond excited to see what the third installment of the story brings. What will happen to Hemming and Helen? What is the next big threat after W.H.O.R.E? I must know!
Alas, this one did not improve upon the first. The same editing errors appeared as well as the obvious use of a thesaurus (for words that don't...quite work). The originally interesting plot stalled and not much really happened. I probably won't read another one by this author.
I was just as pleased with this book as I was pulled in by the first book in the Kate fox series. This is definitely a fun read and I haven't been this drawn to characters in quite a while. Can't wait for book 3.
