If I had more background knowledge about French wines, I might have been more drawn to the Bordeaux and Burgundy sections, but really, I had no idea what was going on even though this was advertised as a wine "primer." I enjoyed the chapter on champagne, since that is what I am interested in, and the shorter sections on how to serve wine (temperature, glasses, etc.) was brief, but sufficient.
Published in the sixties, though, a lot of the prices are out of date. Also, who knows what kinds of advances have been made in the competitiveness of non-French wines.
I would recommend this book to readers who are seeking to differentiate between the TYPES of wine (history/geography-wise). If you're looking for a guide to wine pairings, this isn't it.
