I found Purgatory Reign, the first book in the series, to be somewhat difficult to get through. It was an interesting story, yet it wasn’t all I had hoped it would be. Deviant Storm, on the other hand, pulled me in from the start and I found I couldn’t put the book down. In fact, I can safely say I enjoyed Deviant Storm a lot more than I enjoyed Purgatory Reign.

Personally, I found Deviant Storm to be a much stronger book in so many ways. Whilst book one was a nice introduction to the world, Deviant Storm was much clearer when it came to the events. You had a better understanding of the world, you knew how things were connected, and the storyline pulled you much deeper into the happenings. I really could rant and rave for a very long time about all the reasons why book two is stronger, but I’ll stick to the main things I enjoyed.

Book one had a lot going on, yet I felt as though the pacing wasn’t quite there. I felt as though certain things seemed to drag on whereas other things were glossed over. Such wasn’t the case with this second book: I feel as though the pacing of this one fit the story perfectly. From the get-go, the story is moving at a rapid pace. Slowly things unfold, new details are revealed, yet throughout there is a constant edge-of-your-seat pace. It’s wonderful when information is fed to you slowly whilst the action of the story remains at a rapid pace.

Speaking of new information, the twists added in this one are wonderful. The first book had a lot of information, but I didn’t feel as though there was anything overly mind blowing. This second book add a lot of new aspects, with these new parts of the story taking the series to new places. Honestly, I was so pleased with the details added in this story.

I will admit to having one slight issue with the way the information was shared, though. You see, certain details relating to the supernatural world seemed to come out of nowhere. Characters seemed to simply know all of a sudden, without there being any explanation as to where the information came from. I liked all the new information that was given, but I wish it hadn’t appeared as though it was plucked out of thin air. It was a small issue, though, one of the only things that I didn’t particularly enjoy with this one.

My favourite aspect, though, has to be the characters. They developed even more from the first book, and I really like the way they’re growing as characters. Moreover, our cast expanded with this book. It was so nice to be introduced to some new characters, characters that are important to the story. Plus, we got to see some characters from the prior book, learning more about them. Honestly, the character growth in this book really was a lot of fun.

Overall, this second book was such a strong addition to the series. It has left me super interested to see where things go from here, leaving me positive this series is going to reach some wonderful heights.

First you can read this without the first book but to better understand the story the first book is needed.

Peter is a interesting character. He is a enigma. When first introduced not much is thought of him but as you get to know him you see he is more than first appears. He is smarter than he seems, kinder and sweet. How he feels about Angel is beautiful. The way it connects to the past Angelic/Demonic war is fascinating. The story of Peter’s family and how he relates to the Gavin Steele evil and what is happening in the world is incredible.

the story is intriguing and draws you in. with the history you learn and the determination of the children to fight and survive you can’t help but want to learn more and read on. what will happen to the Order and Peter. What is Kyle’s role besides helping Peter see he has friends and family even if they aren’t blood. The characters draw you in and have you feel. the story has you yearning to see what will happen next and what is going on.

The story of the Angels, Nephilim and their descendants is fascinating. The strongholds and sanctuaries and what we learn from them helps to open up the story more and more. Slowly the mystery begins to unfold. The reasons for Gavin and his evil, Peter and his blood and who he is, Angel and her role and the relationlhsip with Peter, Argia and who she is and her role, Rosa and her way of helping everyone and teaching them, Lucien and what we see of him and the true him, and Pastor Finn and his strength. Gavin is scary and truly evil and what he is trying to achieve is horrible. That man is so evil that you cheer on the children to beat the odds and win over the formidable evil that has changed their lives and caused them so much suffering and pain.

the plot is unique in a way that the children have more of a active role and are how the world can be safe. The danger to and purpose of the children is sad but also uplifting. With all they went through to have such strength, kindness and determination is awesome to see.

this is the story of Peter becoming stronger and finding out the purpose and what needs to be done to beat Gavin. The story of Angel finding herself again and how she finds her way back to Peter. Kyle finding someone to be with and slowly accepting that he is cared for. Argia becoming stronger and getting purpose in her life. The children seeing that their is a reason for their suffering and finding determination and strength to do what is needed to survive and help others. The story of Lucien finding his little bit of goodness and wanting to change. Of Gavin becoming more evil and fighting Balaal for control of himself and ruling over him so he can get rule over the world and get war to the heavens. A interesting fascinating fast paced story that keeps you in the moment and rooting for good to win as we learn of what the purpose of the children and their order is, what is truly behind Gavin and his desires and the history behind the war going on right now and we even get some romance that has passion and some is sweet .

In book two Peter Saint thought he'd killed the bad guy but bad never stays gone forever. Now his enemies jail is weakened and and time is running out for him and the girl he saved by wagering Earth. With ever turn, ever breathe, Peter's enemy gains ground and knowledge of how to destroy him. Will he make it? Can he be the saviour again? Will he beat the veil that haunts him?
I received this book to review not knowing it was the second in the series. Great read though. Very intense and well written. I found it hard to catch on in the beginning but still found it great to read. Fun, suspenseful, unique and full of adventure.

What I like? The world LM Preston has created. She has managed to use wonderful descriptions to paint a world in each of her books. She doesn't rely on her readers simply being familiar with the atmosphere already from the first one, she manages to keep the world fresh in our minds.

What I love? The characters! They are so fun and real. I enjoy reading about them and their growth from book to book. Everything about this series just Gels together so smoothly.

I was kinda lost with the start of this book as I wasn't aware it was book 2 of a series.

That did make the first part of the book a hard read as I had no idea what had transpired in the previous book and there wasn't a little recap, I really feel you would have to read book 1 first before jumping into this.

That being said, I really loved the world that LM Preston has created and this book is packed with action that I cant wait to see what she has in store next for the series.

I liked the pacing of not only this book, but the series as a whole.

LM Preston uses vivid imagery to help the reader feel like they are a part of this world.

I definitely recommend this series.
