If you are looking to raise your game in the area of fatherhood, your marriage, and overall across all key components of your life this is a key foundational book to get your journey started. Larry Hagner provides a very authentic view of fatherhood in this book as well on his website and podcast. If you've been listening to Larry's podcast, you've likely heard most of this already. But, it's great to have it in one concise location. The are a lot of great takeaways in this book.

1. Fatherhood is work! It requires you to stay "checked-in" when you get home, be intentional in the time you spend with your kids and your spouse, and take part in their lives.

2. Lead by example, not by words alone. Trust me on this one, your kids pick up more of what you do than what you say. I started out fatherhood trying to make my kids listen, and that usually fails. If you want them to behave in a certain way, then YOU behave in that way, too.

3. It's all about perspective. You can choose to live like a victim - like the world owes you something, or you've been dealt this massively unfair situation and that's why you fail, or you can flip it, use it to grow, and teach your kids about being resilient and overcoming challenges. It's your choice.

I listened to the audiobook version of the book and there is a great interview between Larry and the narrator/producer. This book is pretty short and the audiobook runs about 4 hours. Or one day of an LA commute.

There's a TON of great stuff in here that I wish I had found in the beginning of my fatherhood journey. But, it's never too late to apply some of these strategies to improve yourself and your relationship with your kids.

As a first time Dad come this September this book was a home run. Larry does a tremendous job in communicating with guys like myself to prepare for the journey into fatherhood. I am a regular listener to The Good Dad Project and regularly active in The Dads Edge Facebook Group. I have made many connections that are life changing in the past few months. This book just solidifies everything a dad should be.

Lots of nice concepts, but at times it sounds copy pasted from a Tony Robbins seminar - great content, but I was expecting something more original.

Focus / meanings / actions
Quality of your life is the quality of your emotions / decisions.

And the author goes back often to the core point of changing focus, but it does not provide interesting points or examples on how to do it.

I appreciate all of the concrete actions that Larry shares with the reader. As a Dad, I sympathized with so many of the examples, but none of them are ever portrayed in a judgmental way! The flat out honesty and straightforwardness makes me want to strive to adopt some of these methods for myself!

There is some very good & practical advice here. Larry Hagner's personal stories illustrate his concepts well. I took a few good ideas away from this, many of which I've explored in therapy before but were discussed in context of parenting, like reframing how you look at things.

A solid piece of advice

A short but through look at ways to improve you but in the meantime improve yourself as a husband,father,and friend.
The summaries at the end of each chapter make a nice little bit right down and make notes of.
