A human woman, a tail-sporting alien, and a deadly hurricane… of course they’re going to hook up! Or rather, they did hook up. But that was then. This is now.

As a marine biologist, Maris Xayer is used to observing all types of marine life, but she never imagined she’d come face to tail with an Ujal. In the middle of a hurricane, Maris and Vados came together—ahem—and then he disappeared. She figured it was a one-storm stand with an Ujal and moved on. Except Vados hadn’t really gone anywhere and now the sexy as sin, red-skinned Ujal is back. For her.

**This is a stand alone 37 page SHORT STORY.**

BR with the MacHalos and the Alien Smut Loving Aussies

Was there a prequel story somewhere I missed out on? I feel like there was a lot of back story missing from this and it definitely slowed down my reading. They kept mentioning the previous encounter between Vados & Maris - wouldn't it have just been easier to write a chapter with it occurring vs continuously dropping crumbs about it in all 36 pages of this short story.

I need more details about these Ujal. I vaguely get they have scales, but they're sometimes hanging out under the skin?, they have a tail (what type?), humanoid body (I think), hair (a full head or Last of the Mohicans style tonsure?), they live in the seas (do they have gills), they have fins somewhere, and they're uniquely colored. Vados was shades of red. I'm unsure of their faces, whether it's human -sque or fish man - do they even have a nose? See the problem here, I'm picturing the worst after the horror that was Gill Man's Girl and it's not a pretty picture.

The couple: Dr. Maris seems fine and not TSTL, just on the wacky hormone tripping right now. Vados is kind of like a silverback gorilla, running around, beating on his chest, making sure all stay away from his mate. I was waiting for him to drag her off into the sea, but he was nice and tried to make her breakfast. The lovey dovey words they exchanged were sappy, but I think fit the story.

The smut: Yeah, I spent that entire section trying to figure out if his scales coming out meant he was slimy like a fish and what was his tail doing during this event? No one likes a surprise tail popping up during sex.

Conclusion: I'll be reading more of the books in this series and that author better have more info for me. Gill Man's Girl has scarred me on fish people/sea creatures (unless there are tentacles), so it's all up to you Ujal to make me like humanoid fish.

We all know how much I love aliens.

This was a very interesting introduction to a new world of alien luuuuuurve.

These aliens have scales! They live under water! And when they mate with humans, or other species, the mate takes on the traits of the Ujal they are mated to and can then procreate and make the hatchlings. There was a hint of Gill Man’s Girl here, purely because they were aquatic aliens.

Unlike in Gill Man’s Girl, this is all done only with the consent of the mate! None of the “ surprise, now you are a fish thing, because I rubbed oil on you, yeah baby .”

This was hellishly insta-lovey. It had a nice heat level and was well written. And Vados was hilariously boneheaded. There was also an awful lot of throwing around “You are mine!” but I found this quite endearing, not annoying. Maybe I was just in a really good mood when I read it. I don’t know.

I will be continuing this series. I do wish they were just one book instead of a serial, but hey, I’ll take my alien lurve any way I can get it.

A short, hot, entertaining read.

Vados is listed as book one in The Ujal series by Celia Kyle as Erin Tate.

I have to say I feel like I’m missing a book or novella or something. These two hooked up during a hurricane, but when we start, Vados, they are apart.

Maris is in trouble and is a friend of the Ujal, so their prince sends two of his best men to protect her and it turns out one is Vados, the man or Ujal she hooked up with.

This story is only 37 pages and you can only do so much. It’s insta mate romance. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect to Maris or Vados or this story. I felt no love. No connection between them even thou the author was saying they have it. Their is lust and sex, but to be honest I wasn’t even feeling that. It was just words on a page.

Now I did find the Ujal interesting. I enjoyed what little information we got on them. I just would have liked more, but it’s a start.

Vados was not the book for me. It was lacking in everything and needed more to it. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

¿¡Estos aliens son como sirenas!? Me faltó conocer más sobre esta especie pero fue un buen inicio para los Ujal

Vados de Erin Tate serie The Ujal libro 1

It was like the plot had huge holes/missing pieces - insta-love extreme with no idea whats up with this species, world, etc.

This was a really short read. 41 pages. While I could see this having potential as a series, it was just lacking in too many areas for me to enjoy it. I felt lost with this read for the most part. I get what happened (which wasn’t much........couple hooks up, mate, the end) , but we really received no depth on this "species"..........how were they accepted by humans? Where the hell did they come from? How long have they been on earth? Do they live in the ocean? Do they go back and forth from land to water? What do they eat? How may are there? What are the differences between this species and humans (aside from the scales). The reader was just not informed in any way about this world. Long review short, there were simply no details or depth. I really didn’t know a thing about the hero and the heroine aside from the fact that they longed for one another. Needless to say, this wont be a series I personally continue.

The reader is dropped into the middle of a meeting between the prince of the Ujal and his chief guard. Memories take the alien hero (guard Vados) drifting out of the meeting with his boss (the prince) on the second page and into reminiscing about an adoring and absent love. But then Vados is assigned to guard a human woman who is being attacked because she has been "soiled" by the Ujal. There is a fire. There is a hurricane. And finally we learn Maris is crying over her broken heart, which happened in one unconsummated encounter with Vados in a car during the hurricane. Did I mention all this happens by page 8. Wait, what? Yeah, I was completely confused for a good half of this short story.

One positive was an interesting and creative physical description of Vados and his colorful scales.

There is a decent story line here, but it needed to flow much better. Clearly details aren't downloaded rapidly or in chronological order (which can be a good thing), but in this rendition it was just confusing. Clunky delivery. Overly simplistic language. Insta-love. Little insight into the characters besides "mine" and lust. I would attribute the shortcomings to the length of the short story, but I have read numerous SFR short stories in anthologies that manage a tighter, more complete story arc with characters who have personality. I won't be reading Ujal 2.

Um first things first: MERMAIDS! Er, merMEN but still!

So this is basically a prequel right? Like if you know that going in and don't expect to see if details/a full story you'll be less grouchy.

I personally feel the first in a series should be the most detailed and longer than the books to follow but that's just me. Either way this was a great way to see the writing style and get an idea of how the world is set up.

I LOVED the dry humor. It's my jam and this was done just how I like it. I cracked up. Like, lots!

Definitely hooked. Onto book 2!

The Ujal: Vados by Erin Tate

My ARC was given for a honest review. I would give 5 stars for this novella, The Ujal: Vados by Erin Tate. The science fiction alien romance story is about humans and aliens for readers 18+ age group due to sexual content. The Ujal have come from space to live on earth in our oceans. They have two forms: first form with a tail, and scales; and second form on land has two legs and scales.

This wonderful story is about a couple, human female and alien amphibious male, whom despite all odds happens to be mates. The Ujal are an attractive race. Dr. Maris Xayer and Vados fa Kotan got real close during a hurricane. Stuff happens, and it takes off at a rocky start. Vados said he be back in five minutes but took longer. She waited as long as she could. Later, things hit the fan for her, and bad people want to hurt her. She needs saving. She needs Vados. When the time comes Vados doesn't hesitate to grab what he wants. Yeah, alpha male! You just got to read the story.

The story is original, steamy, sensual, has a good flow to it, and doesn't you guessing in the end. The characters have realistic personalities. Read what happens to them when they decide to further pursue their relationship. I definitely recommend buying this book.

DebA

EXCELLENT QUICK READ !!!

Wow! This is my first experience reading this author and I must say I'm impressed. Vados is the first novella in the amazing new series, The Ujal, by Erin Tate and it is definitely worth your time. If you love Sci-Fi/Romance reads, you'll love this book. The story is well developed, original, imaginative, exciting, thrilling, enticing, romantic, sensual and steamy. The dialog is smart, well written and flows well. The characters are fascinating, captivating, engaging and sexy. The author has done a remarkable job of presenting an alien amphibious race who have come to earth and reside in our oceans. They are very much like paranormal shifters in their ability to become more human when on dry land. And apparently very attractive! And they can mate with humans! What? Oh my! For such a short book, it packs a powerful punch. I can hardly wait for the next book! Fabulous entertainment and a great read!

Vados is the first novella in The Ujal world followed by Tave. All are available on Kindle Unlimited.

Vados like Tave kept my either laughing or at least smiling throughout the entire short story.
Vados has the same traits as all the Ujal and is a fierce, protective, and honorable warrior.

The thing with him making 5 pots of coffee try to wake up Maris was just too funny!
Maris was extremely feisty yet very likeable. The love scene between the two of them is very steamy and they had wonderful chemistry.

I think my favorite character in this book has to be Dr. Faim. The way he didn't let the warrior Vados push him around and teased him was priceless. I hope we see more of his quick wit in future books!

This was a very funny, sexy, and very steamy quick read. I hope we see more of the Ujal world in the future....Sara

a few thoughts: DNF'd. When story started, the H/h had already had their initial encounter and H knew she was his mate. I felt like I started in the middle of an existing conversation. H was constantly threatening to kill any male who came into h's presence or who fell into her eyesight, even his comrades and leaders. His comrades and leaders co-signed these murderous urges as those of a "mate". It seemed really ridiculous to me, and if this was meant to show the depth of his feelings, then there had to be a better way.

Vados was a quick and enjoyable read. One quick meeting, one storm and a huge misunderstanding is all it takes for Vados and Maris to have a great story. Vados doesn’t know what has hit him when he finds himself missing a woman that he only knew for a few hours, then to find her again. Maris meanwhile thinks that she was just a passing moment to Vados and doesn’t really understand the Ujal. The misunderstanding was delightfully dealt with. This book is an excellent start to the Ujal world that will leave you wanting for more. While part of the Ujal books, it can be read on its own.

Let me start off by saying that these aren't very long books for someone who reads a lot. I finished each one in about an hour and a half. (I'm talking over the series.)

I do like these however! They are great if you want to take a step away from the normal para genre, or new adult. I found them fun, short reads. It's not often you read about Merpeople! (That's basically what I understand the Ujal to be.)

So cute

Vados was a joy to read. He is so funny esp at the end. This was short and sweet I wish we were able to see the hurricane encounter but I guess the author didn't want to delve into it. Sad really hate reading about two people not meeting for the first time and just getting glimpse of the past.

I don't normally read alien books but I am glad this book was in a bundle I got. I really enjoyed this book.... Knowing there is only one person out there for you is something I love to read about and then them becoming a family, also something that means a lot to me. I hope we see more of their future together at some point as I just love the way they are with each other

This was a good book. A little different. I did feel when I started reading it I was lost because when it starts they already met and had this thing. Kinda felt left out. Otherwise an interesting read. Enjoyed it.

Loved the start to this series.

It was a short story, but I loved the setup of this world that Celia Kyle has dreamt up. I also love the mate-possessed possessive alpha that is Vados.

I can't wait to read the next story...

Short novella to introduce the Ujal. The Ujal is a species that live under the sea and have built cities throughout the world, under the sea. Apparently, this species seems to have compatibility with human women, including procreation. I think this ties in with the author’s other sci-fi/alien species romance series. This novella was just a teaser to introduce us to the Ujal IMHO. And, of course, what would such a book be without those who are haters of this species or dare I say, human race purists—I think we call them racists.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series about the Ujal prince. I believe that many salient questions we have that are germane to this species will be answered. I will stay tuned.

What I liked:
The cover which is why I bought the book.
The world building.

What I didn't care for:
Nothing happens. Boy meets girl...they live happily ever after. Don't expect a plot here. No antagonist, no real obstacles. They meet they are attracted, no misunderstandings, they screw, the end.

I'm willing to give the author another go maybe with another book but this series is a no go for me.

Meh,
A short erotic romance that ends up being just OK and maybe a beginning to a longer story in the end. So Vados and Maris meet during a hurricane and have a emotional fling but are parted through circumstance. Neither knows the other didn't wait. The media hounds her as they had been seen together and now she has to have guarded protection. Suddendly Vados and she are thrown back together. He recognizes her as mate, she feels the pull. She decides yes and it is mainly sex and not particular well written hot sex either. I would say more than 1/2 the story, short story, is them having sex. There are scales and also her body changes to his. Along with the insta love, insta everything, the world is barely touched upon. We have become more bigoted it seems, also the only two human men in this story, are just poorly vetted by the Ujal, as they try to push her into her rooms to rape her, they are idiotic, as in really?, you think this is a good idea while. There is no way not to be caught, then what, you are put in jail at the least and killed at the most, by the Ujal. So OK at best. At least it was short, really short. If you read the spoiler, you pretty much have the whole of it.

If I had started with this book in her Alien series, change Earth, world, I would have never read another. I started with the Dragons of Preor. Even though the human men and Preor males that are bigoted idiots, are still extremist zealots, there is a better story that goes along with it. These really are simply written. This one just didn't have a compelling story or characters or sexual connection.
