Political deception, international espionage and entrenched military corruption. In Book Four of the military thriller Spectre series by C.W. Lemoine, Cal "Spectre" Martin finds himself face to face with the Commander in Chief aboard Air Force One. Together with FBI agent Michelle Decker, he is ready to share evidence so incriminating it could topple the current administration in Washington D.C.. A series of terror attacks across U.S. interests in the South Pacific causes the Secret Service to evacuate the President, delaying Spectre’s meeting indefinitely. But just when Spectre thought his day couldn’t get any worse, it does. Soaring into international airspace over the Pacific Ocean, terror strikes, forcing Air Force One to land on the remote American island of Midway. Soon Spectre and Decker realize their enemy is not at all what they expected. The stakes have never been higher as Spectre calls on every resource he has to free the President and the hostages, desperate to escape the net of conspiracy that threatens to close around them all… for good.
C.W. Lemoine is the author of the military/espionage thriller novels SPECTRE RISING, AVOID. NEGOTIATE. KILL., ARCHANGEL FALLEN, EXECUTIVE REACTION, BRICK BY BRICK, and STAND AGAINST EVIL.
A Louisiana native, Lemoine is a graduate of the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University in New Orleans. After graduating college, Lemoine joined the Air Force Reserve where he flew the F-16 and accumulated one thousand hours including a combat tour in Iraq.
Lemoine later transferred to the Navy Reserve where he flew F/A-18A+ Hornets.
In 2011, Lemoine received his Instructor Certification in Survival Krav Maga and his Brown Belt in 2012. He is also a Louisiana P.O.S.T. - 1 certified Law Enforcement Officer and former National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certified EMT-Basic.
Lemoine lives in New Orleans with his two rescue dogs Sniper and Kaiser Von Ruff. When he's not flying or writing, he enjoys volunteering with local law enforcement, working out, and running with his two dogs.
Another thought provoking modern warfare plot well presented without too many 'flights of fantasy'. In an age of lightning fast communication and free speech, makes you think if it is all suddenly taken away. Just how protected are our leaders and their staffs?
I've been reading this genre for goodness knows how long, starting with some of Alister McLean's books, then Frederick Forsyth, Tom Clancy and so on.
CW Lemoine writes an exciting story, but his style is a bit difficult to follow at times. But I'm sure that he will improve as time goes on.
I've bought all of the ebooks because I need to know how Spectre ends up after all of his adventures.
He tends to use a lot of expressions over and over (for example, a lot of the characters tend to be "smug", for example. When I was taught English writing I was told not to over-use words and terms which describe something.
Anyway, onto "Brick by Brick" and to see how he foils his enemies.
The main and secondary plots was interesting and the main characters (Spectre and Kruger) are well done. My issue is with the secondary characters. All the political characters were written so flat and unbelievable (the Secretary of State in the middle of a shoot out says "I don't shoot guns, I have people for that.) Same for the Chief of Staff and even the President. And how about how the brave members of the airfare are portrayed? The first sign of danger and two of them yell "Please don't kill me." Still the book was entertaining and moved along at a great pace.
Exciting read. Lots of characters so Spectre is not the center of attention. Mr. Lemoine obviously knows his subject matter so all the technical aspects of the story are very believable. Spectre is also made to appear quite damaged and dependent on Decker but still he does function in a manner that will make the reader satisfied.
Good story. I found it dragged at times but the action sequences were very well done. The frustration shown by the main character felt very real. The political issues presented were frightening. Certainly worth the time. A higher rating would have been logical but the story jumped from character to character which I found difficult to follow at times.
The first three of the spectre books were very engaging. This book is addictive, and moves with great speed. You don't want to put it down. I'm looking forward to his next book.
They just keep getting better and better, the stories about Spectre and all his confederates. Just love these stories. Please keep them coming!!!! Thanks, Amarillo Turtle
A great read with Spectre coming through again. I have been to Midway a couple of times and I think the island grew for Lemoine. He's replace my favorite Vince Flynn, may he rest in peace.
Good story line, picking up on the previous novel but able to stand alone. Lacking gratuitous sex, which is a good thing. Action packed, feasible, suspenseful.
