Love the alternative world created and the story just pulls you in deeper and deeper so you just cannot put down the book.
I adore both characters, the supporting cast and also the intricate plot that is slowly peeled away layer by layer, culmulating in a huge confrontation.
The love scenes are sexy, and though when you think about it, the huge age gap and how they met seems to make the whole relationship a bit weird and offputting, Godman did a great job persuading us how this came about.
Though the plot is super packed and it is fun to read, there isn't enough tension or danger involved that makes you want to grind your teeth worrying for the protagonists. The evil are too easily dealt with, and made our main characters seem very offhand and casual about dealing this epic crisis.

I took a chance on this book because paranormal for me usually means vampires or wolves. So fairies? I wasn't sure it would be for me. I couldn't have been more wrong. This story is a roller coaster of adventure with twists and turns that kept me frantically turning the pages. I loved the central characters and the mystery surrounding their relationship. The emotional intensity between them scorched up the page! Oh, and there were vampires and wolves, they were just secondary characters. And those fairies? I'll never look at Tinkerbell in the same way again. I can't wait for book two in the series.
This story kept me gripped from start to finish. I loved the mystery and adventure, but the best part was the relationship between Stella and Cal. Loved the supporting cast. Oh, and I want to relocate to Otherworld.
Stella is a games designer and she's landed a job working for a company she's long admired. There's a catch, though: she has to move to Spain to work for them... also, turns out the company is run by an evil, yet sexy, Faerie King. Thankfully, Stella has Cal to warn her of the Faerie King's sinister plans. He's been secretly protecting her since childhood, and now he must explain to her that she's not as normal as she thought - that she's a necromancer about to be dragged into some serious Faerie drama.
Stella is a nerd. She loves her computer games, and this actually plays into the story beyond just being a background part of her character, which I thought was pretty cool. Despite having a 'guardian angel' in Cal, Stella is no simpering heroine who needs to be rescued. Even before she discovers her super bad-ass necromancer powers, she's not the sort of heroine to sit back and just wait for things to happen. She's all about getting answers and taking charge. When it comes to her feelings for Cal, though, that's not so easy.
Cal and Stella have a connection from well before they meet in person - I had mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it kinda squicked me that Cal had been not-so-secretly protecting Stella since she was a child, but on the other hand, their relationship has a believable depth that I really liked, and which might not have worked if they didn't have this past. Once they meet, they fall for each other quickly and it's pretty freaking adorable actually - even as Cal is teaching Stella how to use her magic to fulfill a prophecy and battle the evil Faerie King of Otherworld, they're having some delicious sexy times. Of course, it's not all smooth sailing, as Cal has a secret and Stella must decide whether she can trust the man she loves, while contending with Faerie politics.
The world building in Otherworld Protector is great. Godman plays with various myths in really fun original ways. I don't want to give too much away, since a lot of Stella and Cal's Otherworld adventure is related to unraveling their connections to these myths, but this is definitely a world that I think is going to be fun to explore through this series. Speaking of... there's a section towards the end from Cal's sexy Irish friend Lorcan's perspective, so I'm hoping he might be the hero of the next Otherworld story - I'm really looking forward to that!
Otherworld Protector is a fun paranormal romance, with exciting faerie politics, a heroine as strong as her sexy hero, and a world that I'm looking forward to exploring more in the rest of the series!
I received this book as part of a Goodreads Giveaway. I love paranormal fantasy/romance books, and this didn't fail to please! Stella being a game geek was good and something I could relate to, and I liked the fact that Necromancers were the good guys for a change! Likeable characters (I especially liked Lorcan!), a bit of mythology and a battle to finish it off. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wasn't too keen on the sex scenes, but that's my personal choice and nothing against the author. A good story and a great read!
Not my usual genre of book but was pleasantly surprised. The story was fast paced with some twists and turns and many different characters added along the way.
Never sure where the lead character Stella was going to be led or will she discover who is to be trusted or not! Characters brought to life and you could feel the wind in your hair with all the dashing heroes or antiheroes rushing around.
Interesting, as the second book was, as there were plot holes I liked. There was falling in love with a powerful necromancer, despite being a powerful necromancer as well, that are on the verge of a battle that came on them. Looks like the dream job wasn't all that it looked to be, as she was in control of the battle, after coming to term with her powers. I enjoyed the book.
"The relationship between Cal and Stella is unique, complex and deeply sensual. Their forbidden romance keeps the tension ratcheted high. An engaging supporting cast and plenty of cunning and intrigue makes this a story readers will savor until the very end" (RT Book Reviews, 4 1/2 stars).
