At sixty, when most men retire into emptiness, Uncle, our wrinkled protagonist, comes back with a flourishing brothel at his dead father s mansion and there begins a search for the ultimate pleasure. He dives into the darkness exploring the sin of the flesh, dictated by the devil from a distant a stepmother he loved to destruction. She is the only emotion, the only trace of warmth and love in Uncle s otherwise cold it is she who taught him the value, as she saw it, of mortal life and human sacrifice. His mind is complex yet simple in its desires, resting on dark sarcasm and unpredictability, that compels one to relish every word, every move and every absurdity with a curious hunger. Unable to remain lucid, he floats dangerously in and out of reality and dreams, not knowing where one ends and the other begins.
Pimp is a fictional psychological thriller with Uncle in the lead role, who is merciless and backs his decision no matter how grave they are and how many lives they affect. Uncle is adamant and intelligent, who has spent his entire life with only one job and a wife whose smell made him sneeze. Uncle's character is dark, backed with wit, sarcasm and carelessness or alternatively Uncle can also be defined as the antonym of morality, correctness and righteousness. The story of Pimp talks about several issues that we refrain from talking about and brings them into the spotlight in an interesting and narrative way. The characters of the book depict pain, play with it and seek pleasure. In the entire story, there is thrill, there is surprise, there is truth, there is blood, there is humor, there is wit, there is sarcasm, there is banter, there are insane characters and a more insane story.
Shashank Gupta’s debut work Pimp is a psychological thriller, engaging plot that is full of events. From the first page this book starts to show a sign of how a book under the category of a thriller should be developed.
The protagonist who at the age of sixty, whose mind with considerable amount of wit is driven by desire and goes on to explore as one might refer to the sin of the flesh. Some might refer this to darkness of the human mind, I completely believe it’s just a part of it not entirely the darkness. The plot revolves around the protagonist and his stepmother, his passion of love and chaos.
There is a unique kind of mystery created by Shashank Gupta in this book. One doesn’t get to read this type of mystery or thrilling experience that grabs attention one’s mind completely. The narration is as uncommon as the mysteriousness and the dialogue between the characters are tenderly written for the reader to read.
This novel touches themes like endurance, relations, love and hope and the protagonist is one of the characters who might stay in the memory of his reader for quite some time. He will be staying in mine for some time for sure. It’s the way he is presented. The characterisation in general is mediocre and it failed to gather my attention as did the plot.
One cannot deny the book is enjoyable, time spent is worth in general. There is a relaxing way of writing represented by the writer of the book that can produce a thrill in a matter of pages. This book does contain some illustrations that try to define the state betwixt the characters and the plot and is a distinctive way of defining the writer’s state of mind at that point. After reading the book I had a clear understanding of its entitle.

A few weeks back while casually scrolling through my Facebook feed I came across an article about an app that wherein couples can rent a room by the hour. I would be lying if I say that I was both shocked and impressed reading about the app, shocked because I was surprised to learn that this could be done legally and impressed with the sheer ingenuity of the idea. To my surprise around the same time I received an email describing a book with a similar story line and quite a direct title. I was obviously intrigued and a few days later a tiny package with a book barely a bit bigger than my palm with a beautiful embossed title on the cover that read “Pimp” by Shashank Gupta.
“Pimp” talks about a sixty year old “Uncle” who retires only to find that he has nothing much to look forward to. He had a good for nothing abusive dead father, an even more abusive dead mother and the only love he felt in his life was towards his step mother who is dead as well leaving. He is now married to a woman he loathes and being around her makes him sneeze non stop. On a rather unusual day of trying to avoid being around his wife, Uncle stumbles upon a very simple need of a certain section of people and decides to make a business out of it.
When I decided to read the book I knew it would be a story with a serious tone but I never imagined that the narration and the story would be this interesting. The book is one of the more darker psychological thrillers I have read in a long time. The highlight is the..... Read complete review here: http://www.coml13.com/index.php/2016/...
Dark. Shocking. Insane. Yet, it grabbed both my eyeballs and the unmentionables right from the word go. The protagonist, uncannily named ‘Uncle’, is a man with a sinful purpose, which he gives shape to in an equally saintly way. The more I discovered his character, the more I kept spiraling down into an abyss of some kind of a mental catharsis. He’s witty, he’s vile, and he’s unpardonable. Yet, he casts a strange spell onto the readers’ minds. He’s a man of dark deeds, we all agree. But he’s also a man with a good purpose. In all his delusion and demented actions, he sets Kamru, his loyal ‘dog,’ free from the shackles of life. At the crescendo of his madness, he saves Bidiya and her child. It might be a fleeting glimpse, but it makes him a human in the end. And that’s one of the high points of the book I liked. With that little twist, nicely garbed under the plethora of Uncle’s nasty, wicked activities, the writer turns me into a successful reader. Pimp is a real page-turner of a psychological thriller that trespasses into the dark crannies of the human mind – you might hate Uncle, you might want to slice him with the same blade that he carries in his pocket, but you certainly can’t ignore him. That’s what makes Pimp is masterpiece.
