That’s how long I've been here. Captive. Frightened. Alone. The little human contact I receive is not what I crave. It's not a friend’s comforting arm or my mother’s swift kiss. It's rough contact—forced, and familiar for all the wrong reasons. I don’t want him there, but I’m powerless to stop him. He says that he owns me and that I am his. “Emmy,” he calls me. That’s not my name, but as more time passes I’m starting to forget things. What is my name? Where am I from? Who was I before I came here?
6 days 11 hours 14 minutes
That’s how long I’ve known Callum, and already, I trust him with my life. I was so sure I would never crave another man, but he challenges everything I thought I knew— everything I felt. He says that he’ll save me. I believe him. He calls me “Leila.” It sounds like a name that belongs to me and it reminds me of a past I was starting to forget. The escape is planned and my fate is in his hands, but if this doesn’t work, what will become of me?

Leila thought traveling to the U.S would be the start to getting her freedom. She was very, very wrong. Instead of arriving and meeting the family she would be a nanny for she was kidnapped and sold as a sex slave. That was almost three years ago and by now she's given up all hope of ever leaving her hell. But then Callum show's up and he may just be the savior she's been hoping for. If he doesn't get captured himself, that is.
This is my first read by Tara Hart so I wasn't too sure what to expect going in, but I was hoping for an actual dark story, and I got exactly what I hoped for. Leila was stuck in a twisted and very messed up situation with her captor and sometimes it broke my heart. From the beginning I could tell she was strong and I liked after so long being a slave for a sick and demented man she still had her fighting spirit.
There were so many different ways that this story could have gone and ended, and I really liked that I was kept on the edge of my seat from when I first started. Even when I thought I knew what would happen I would be proven wrong, which doesn't happen much. Callum was a complete mystery as to how his characters role would play out, but I ended up loving him and especially him with Leila.
Overall, this was a good dark story. The subject matter isn't going to be for everyone but if you have a twisted mind like mine than I think it's the perfect book for you.

I couldn't continue. I found myself skimming more than actually reading, so I think that's a sure sign to call it quits. I'll break it down with spoilers...
That's the just of my issues. Got it all off my chest and moving on to the next...
TITLE: Lost & Bound AUTHOR: Tara Hart GENRE: Contemporary Romance RELEASE DATE: May, 2016
MY RATING
LOST & BOUND Told in dual POV'S ( Leila & Callum ) This book does come with a warning attached to it. This book contains disturbing situations, graphic depictions of rape, strong language and violence.
Twenty-One year old Leila is travelling to the United States of America towards her new nanny job relishing in her new found freedom of working abroad. Instead of arriving at her new position, she's kidnapped and sold as a sex slave to William Osborne whose the Mayor of a small town in America called Merling. Barely speaking any English, confused, and scared, she doesn't fully understand what's happening to her.
2 years 38 weeks 4 days
That’s how long Leila has been held captive for, in a basement
The above part is glossed over, so your not privy to the full brutal grittiness of the kidnapping, which is what one would expect with the nature of this book. I think if it was depicted in more detail it would be darker than what it is, but this would be a stepping stone for first time readers of a dark genre.
Callum hasn't been to his childhood home in three years when he makes an unexpected visit to his father's house he's confronted by a foreign woman welding a knife.
He quickly uncovers that she is being held captive by his father, a tracking device on her wrist.
I notice her ankles. They are red and swollen. Thick gouges mar her skin as if she's been tied up.
Callum starts to question everything he ever thought he knew about his father.
Dad has been a recluse since my mum died.
With the help of his childhood friend they come up with a way to try and break Leila out from his father's home.
I enjoyed the suspense of this story, sit on the edge of your seat waiting to see what the author was going to throw at me next, loved the build up of these two characters and their subsequent attraction towards each other, to be a dark read for me the author would've had to go into more details of the actual kidnapping, the feels that went coursing through her mind, those are what I felt were missing, but for ones just stepping towards the dark genre this would be perfect for them, as it's not too dark, but it is gritty.

Title: Lost & Bound Author: Tara Hart Category: Dark Romance Series or Standalone: Standalone Characters: 4 Plot: 4 Scorching Level: 3.50 HEA: Read to find out!
This was a new author for me. I was pleasantly surprised by Lost & Bound. Even though the plot was a bit predictable, to me at least, the writing made up for it. The author's skill is refreshing and eloquent and I loved how she developed her plotline. Leila has been a captive for so long that days and weeks blend together. She is confused, she is afraid, but she has survived. The man who keeps her is cold and cruel, but he has kept her alive. She is nothing but an object to him, a toy to play with. Her fate changes when her captor's son appears into the house. Callum never expected to find a kidnapped woman in his father's house. Shocked and confused, he is starting to doubt his father's character and sanity. Leila seems lost but she awakens something in Callum that makes him feel obligated to help her. But delving deep into darkness is never safe and Callum will risk everything, even his life, to free Leila. Can he succeed? Is it possible for love to blossom even in the strangest of places? The book flows smoothly and I finished it in one sitting. I will definitely read more from this author! I recommend it.
"You were sent here to save me and you did, in more ways than one. You gave me my freedom, but much more than that, you saved my life. You saved me from myself."
Leila thought that coming to the United States will be an amazing new start in her life. Instead, she is kidnapped and taken by a sadistic man. His son, Callum, comes home one day from Italy and finds Leila in his father's home. Confused as to why there is a girl there who tells him she is his 'sex slave', Callum starts to question everything he ever thought he knew about his dad.
This book is dark. I love dark books. My favorite type of books are the ones that 'go there' when most books do not. And this book GOES THERE and then goes further. I'm also a HUGE fan of kidnapped/romance novels, so of course this book totally fit the bill.
So why not 5 stars? Well, I had problems believing that Leila wasn't feeling anything more than 'hero worship' for Callum. And that Callum saw a pretty girl in need and felt like he needed to protect her and it created some sort of Florence Nightingale effect. But love? Idk. I would have liked to see
I'd recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of a dark read! :-)
This was a pretty good dark read. When Leila traveled to the U.S. she thought she would be working as a nanny instead she was kidnapped and sold as a sex slave that was almost three years ago and she has given up of ever being free. Callum show's up to visit his father and finding Emmy/Leila who he thought was the maid at first. I loved the chemistry between Callum and Leila she was a strong female who has been through a lot at the hands of her Master who is a powerful man. This was my first time reading this author this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more of her work.
This was a real quick read for me. I read it in a few hours and I did enjoy it.
This book will be dark for some so read the warnings as it contains captivity and rape scenes. As I'm a sucker for the real dark books I'd say this is a really great gritty read.
I found this to be a well written story with a different storyline to what I've read before.
The connection between Leila and Callum was too rushed for my liking. I would have liked to see her deal with what happened a bit better.
I was warned that Lost & Bound was a dark romance and definitely not for everyone but I decided to take my chances on this one and I'm so glad that I did!
Imagine leaving the only home you've ever known to go to America and make a life for yourself only to have it all turn into a horrible nightmare in the blink of an eye.
Imagine showing up at your childhood home after being away for three years only to discover that your father is not the man you thought he was.
This is Leila and Callum's story and it's dark, and twisted, and oh sooo good!
I don't want to give anything away so all I'm going to say is this... If you're a fan of dark romance you definitely need to give this one a go!
Wow ... just ... wow. This book is unlike anything I've ever read. It's dark, twisted, heart-wrenching, but hopeful & beautiful all in the same. This story isn't for the faint of heart. It's very raw and has detail of rape. It's very tastefully done and not too graphic in my opinion. If there's one word that I would use to describe this story it's HOPE.
Callum hasn't been home in years and when he makes an unexpected visit to his father's house he's confronted by a foreign woman holding a knife. He quickly learns that this woman is being held at the house against her will in the house he grew up in ... the events that follow make Callum realize the facade he always knew existed about his father is actually true. Leila thought she was dead, not physically but mentally, she had no reason to believe her life would ever change but then Callum came home.
Give this book a try, I almost plead that you do. It's a story that stays with you but not in a bad way even though much of this story is anything but pleasant. As I mentioned above, if you have hope, even the darkest of nights will turn to morning and a new day.

Callum has come back unexpectedly to his father’s home after quite a long absence. Letting himself into the house, he encounters a girl dressed scantily who pulls a knife on him. Did she break in? Callum is shocked when the stranger tells him that she’s being held captive by his father. The story only gets more bizarre from there and Callum doesn’t know what to believe, but he does know he should help this desperate girl. Perhaps his father is not who Callum thinks he is.
“My father held this girl captive. A foreign girl that no one would miss and no one would come looking for. From what Leila says, few people knew she was in the house, and of those who did, none of them turned him into the authorities. If this is true, which I am beginning to suspect it is, my father is more disturbed than I thought.”
I have never read a captive story quite like this. Dark and strangely riveting. I love how she tracked time from when she was sold into sexual slavery and then after she met Callum. I couldn't help but put myself in either of their shoes and think what I would have done if everything I thought I knew about my father was a lie. I was on pins and needles wondering how he might save her when twists fly out of nowhere. Sometimes I wondered if his father could get any more deranged. Quite a messed up, dark little story that I perversely enjoyed.
If you are a little sadistic like I am and like to freak yourself out, try this story out and see what you think. It definitely made me wonder about visiting my dad the next time and checking out the basement. I wonder what he has down there.
This book was not what I was expecting. To be quite honest... I was expecting something a little more darker. As I kept reading... I just kept thinking there had to have been a faster way to help Leila out. Then the route Callum had taken to help Leila. He was a writer for a U.S. Newspaper. Your going to tell me he couldn't contact anyone to help him out faster? I mean... There was just so many opportunities he could have taken before everything all went down. I'm sorry... I just wasn't buying it all.
And I just felt if it wasn't one thing it was another in the attempts to help Leila and himself out. Everything he did it seemed to fail for him. The knife scene in the end was like a big COME ON moment for me.
William's chapter didn't really make sense to me. I felt like his chapter should have been in the beginning of the book. It just seemed like to me it was just thrown in. It did not flow for me after what just went down in the previous chapter.
Leila's character.... I just felt there was something missing for me in her. Her emotions just weren't very convincing to me in certain situations in this book. It was hard to get into her character.
Like I said in the beginning of my review.... This book was not what I was expecting. It wasn't bad. But it could have been a little more darker.
Lost & Bound was a quick good read. It's told in the dual POVs Leila and Callum. It's very well written and the story pulled in right in. Leila Comes to the US seeking freedom but is tricked and sold as a sex slave. Callum meets Leila when he comes home to his father's house. Even though he meets her under odd circumstances there is still an instant connection. Leila feels safe with Callum. Leila hasn't be treated very nicely and I kind of excepted her not be so comfortable with Callum as quickly as she was. Callum wants to be Leila's savior and she hopes that he is. Saving Leila is not are easy as it seems. They have a few obstacles to overcome before she is free.
Leila and Callum – this is a dark dark read so if you don’t care for those don’t pick it up. This book focuses on human trafficking, selling of women and rape. Callum needs to save the woman he sees. The man cant leave her.
Emmy is not the name she was given but its what she is being called. The man she just met she trust more than she has ever trusted anyone. She remembers nothing. She was held captive for over two years and her life started to fade. But this man who she has only known a short time says he wants to save her and gives her hope. After all this time she doesn’t know what to think. Her life has been a nightmare. It was supposed to be a new beginning filled with hope but its been the opposite. How did she get here and where did she go wrong?
This story will keep you guessing. It wasn’t a bad read but it wasn’t what I thought I guess. The situations are somewhat brutal. There is a lot of things that are somewhat confusing. The first meeting of Callum and Emmy is somewhat bizarre. I wasn’t sure how this could have even happened. However it does put the start of the story into a whirlwind for sure. If you like dark romance then pick this one up. I didn’t not like it I just couldn’t wrap my head around the meeting of Callum and Emmy.
Thank you for the ARC! Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.
I wanted to read Lost & Bound from the moment I read the synopsis and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! It was even better than I thought it would be and I'm so glad that I found it. It was an amazing book and I really loved it!
Leila is an excellent heroine - she's sweet and kind and good-hearted even after all she's been through. She's strong in the beginning and she becomes even stronger throughout the book. Leila is just so lovable and wonderful and she deserves every happiness coming her way.
It wasn't hard to love Callum - he's as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside, just like Leila. He's kind, patient, thoughtful, sweet, and a total gentleman. He's sexy and compassionate - I could go on and on. Callum is an outstanding hero and he completely stole my heart!
Lost & Bound is a hard book to read at times - it will break your heart, make you furious and want to hurt someone, but even with all its dark moments - there were a lot of light, sweet, and some playful moments too. Lost & Bound is full of heartache, passion, and beauty, but most of all, it's full of hope. Leila and Callum never really lose it and it made an awesome book into an incredible one.
Lost & Bound is a standalone told from Callum and Leila's POV and they get their well-deserved HEA.
I am a big fan of the dark/twisted and odd storylines !! I don't mind the violence and bad language and the more confusion the better !! This story may be a little on the lighter side of dark than I am used to but it was a great read - I devoured it in a matter of hours.
By the time we get to Leila/Emmy she is already broken , confused and hopeless. It seems some of her worst is over and as long as she obeys Osborne things run smoothly. BUT that one day an unexpected visitor comes in the day and things for Leila/Emmy change. Can Callum save her or will he turn out just like his father ??
Callum is NOT expecting what he finds when he comes home from Italy. His dad's house is hiding away some huge secrets while he runs the town. Not only is Callum shocked at what he finds BUT horrified to find out just who his father has turned into. Is he too late to help Leila or will he be drawn into this seedy world too ??
As soon as I saw that Miss Hart had another book up for preorder after reading her debut No Angel I knew I had to get it and I loved this book as I loved the first. Leila and Callum are such a great couple, by themselves they are good but definitely searching for something but now together wow. They are perfect together in my eyes. What a powerful and at times torture to read but I'm so happy I read their story but the end what does FIM stand for? I hope they get a novella to update us on their future and progress in therapy. This couple has my heart. I love you Miss Hart
I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Tara!
4 Star read.
I'm not very good with reviews but I'll try my best.
I liked the main characters, the way Callum was with Leila from the beginning was so sweet. I liked Leila her character was amazingly strong for what she was going through.
The chemistry between Callum and Leila was sweet not very hot but sweet as Callum assumed she would think of HIM while they were together.
I really enjoyed this book and will be reading more from this author.
4.25 Stars. Whoa. This story was a different take for me on a captive book. Dark and strangely captivating. I love how she tracked time being held captive and then after she met Callum. You can't help but put yourself in either of their shoes and think what would I have done if...plus I live in Virginia so I'm picturing this small town in the Shenandoah Valley. Full review coming on The Smut-Brarians.
I'm not really sure where to start with this review. Lost & Bound has some trigger subjects in it so be warned. I have been studying human slavery that is still going in today and the author did her research pretty well. It kind of reminded me of Taken when the dreams begin. The characters are pretty developed, I did feel parts of their development was rushed and made me not connect fully. Overall, I enjoyed reading and look forward to reading more from Tara Hart.

This was a fantastic dark read! Leila's has been living in hell for the last two years with little hope of climbing out. Until Callum. It's been three years since Callum's been home and he soon realizes his father has changed. This book has a lot of twists and turns. It kept me guessing and at times cringing. If you like dark romances I highly recommend this book!
This book was awesome read dark sometimes but I really like how we get to see inside both MC head's and try to understand them, this book is a roller coaster of emotions I couldn't put the book down. I received this copy for an honest review
If you discovered your father had an abducted young woman in his basement as his personal sex slave, what would you have done? Called him out on it? Or called the police?
Any average person might have done either or both, but that wasn't what the MMC did, and that was the reason I decided not to pursue this story further. It wasn't realistic. The insta-love or attraction he felt for his father's abductee was the oddest shit that could have happened. It didn't make a lick of sense. Even if you found him or her good looking, the first thing you should have done was to get help.
So here we are, DNFing the story. And boo-hoo, I like a captor-captive/stockholm syndrome romance on my angsty days, and this was NOT it.
I'm kind of on the fence about this book, I was asked to read and leave my honest review, I was told that it was a dark read violent. As a lover of dark reads I did not find this book to be that dark, I didn't find the language to be as bad as it heeds in its warning. The language in this book is light compared to Some YA reads I've read. The sex scenes in this book are lacking, does it involve rape? Yes simply because Leila is not willing, however we do not get a graphic horror stricken scene that you would find in dark reads. The story is about a girl from Brazil who is suppose to be coming to America to live with a family, instead she is captured. We do not see the scene in which she's captured, we see where the man who bought her has her as a prisoner in his home, even there we don't see much. We meet Callum who is the buyers son, now unlike most dark reads the men who save the woman/women are strong and fearless, Callum is none of that, the minute he's caught trying to help Leila escape he's beaten, and doesn't attempt to fight back, he basically just succumbs to his fate and gives up, although he has strong feelings for Leila, he's to quick to want to die. Here she's been kept as a prisoner and gone through what she says is hell, ( we do not see much here either, if it was not for her two minute rape sessions it kind of appears to not be a bad deal)he's ready to die within a week of being captive. I don't mind a weak man, but this is beyond weak, he should have been a young kid, he doesn't seem to have a back bone at all. All in all this book is a page turner, the ending is good, it's a quick paced read, but it's just lacking the darkness. If you like a dark read, this book is not for you. Happy reading :)
