The retired art history professor turned amateur sleuth is in rare form in Daisy Thurbin's latest Samantha Duncan Mystery. Samantha juggles her busy lecture circuit schedule with riding in the Devon countryside and renewing old acquaintances. She enjoys more than her share of excitement when she attends the Palio di Siena and a visit to the sleepy Florentine suburb of Fiosole culminates in high drama for our heroine. When the eagle eyed sleuth spots more than the vintage cars on show at the Goodwood Revival, she must draw on all her skills to bring the culprit to justice. The well crafted and meticulously researched conundrum will leave Samantha Duncan fans clamouring for more.
I love this series and look forward to researching the artists that Samantha Duncan introduces to her audience. However, this was a stretch to make the plot hold together. This was one of my least favorite books but the series is so good overall that I can't wait to see what happens next.
Always an enjoyable and incentive adventure with the intrepid Samantha and friends. Her description of the various places she travels to makes the reader (me) wish to go there!
I have read every one of Thurbin's books up to this point and am looking forward to completing thus series as well. I greatly enjoy the quirky personality and habits of Samantha Duncan, the mix of art, horse riding, clothes, travel, and sluthing that make up these delicious books. To say nothing of the caviar! I have reached the age when I resist stories that are too dark, and these are substantial without too much darkness.
