I like L-DK for a lot of reasons. It’s one of my very first live action adaptations that got me into manga, and J-dramas starring Kento Yamazaki. From there on it was a slippery slope perversely enough. It's a story that has a lot of good memories attached to it. Reading the series again from the beginning this time there's a lot of things I like about it.

Top of that list is, of course, the incredible sexual tension that is off the fucking roof with this one. You would be hard pressed to find another shoujo manga that's quite as risque without diverging into ecchi territory, the latter of which I absolutely despise. Instead, the sexually suggestive scenes are tastefully executed, putting romance on the forefront, and GOD DAMN does it give you the butterflies!

Most importantly though, the sexual exploration and curiosity is not one sided like in so many shoujo manga. The female protagonist isn’t a virginal model of modesty and reluctance who is coerced into sexual situations by the male love interest. Rather, Aoi experiences as much sexual urges as does Shusei. If anything she's more open about it even though she clearly lacks experience. She has a healthy libido for an 18 year old high school kid. Shusei might not be as vocal about his urges but it's clear that he’s very much attracted to Aoi, loves her deeply, and really wants to have sex with her as an extension of those feelings.

Which brings me to another point that I really like about this manga. Aoi’s parents are clearly present in the picture rather than existing as vague thought bubbles at the periphery of the story, only accounted for when the story needs it. Though they live in a different town, hence Aoi cohabiting with her boyfriend, they are a vocal presence throughout the story. Aoi's father even goes so far as to set up clear boundaries regarding her relationship with Shusei. He stipulates early on that one condition for them living together is that they refrain from sex till graduation. This, as Aoi clearly explains later on, is to prevent any kind of accidental pregnancy and not because her parents don’t trust these kids to be responsible.

Based on how very conservative Japanese society is, especially as depicted in this manga, it made sense to me for the parents to draw boundaries for the kids. More so, since in most manga the parents are often completely absent or somehow OK with their kids marrying while still in high school.

This does quickly veer off into crazy, overprotective father territory where, at one point, the father actually gets jealous of Shusei for holding his new baby. Like the guy actually though damn this kid looks better with my wife and child than I do gotta get mad for that! WUT??? I’m so glad we didn’t have to deal with that shit for too long!

Other than that, I’m also just so in love with the way the manga develops the relationship between our two central characters. There is a lot of emphasis, within the plot and its characters, on the folly of judging people based on their outward appearances. There is a thirst for deeper connections overlooking superficial ones. Our two main characters fall in love as they come to depend more on each other in their everyday lives and from there, understanding grows.

Throughout the manga there's also a sharp contrast between Aoi and the other girls who thirst after Shusei based on his good looks and what they perceive as a boost in status should they be seen with him. Shusei, on the other hand, only shows interest in women with whom he has some kind of intellectual connection.

Which is not to say that Aoi is pitched as a stereotypical snowflake with no female friends. Her friendship with her best friend, while initially staged as fodder for drama, doesn’t go that way. I don’ t understand when rival girls in manga get pissed that the hot they were interested in rejects them and goes for someone else instead. You don’t own people and thinking that way is pretty dumb.

Aoi does have a pretty solid friendship even if her friend disappears from the story for a few chapters and is only mentioned in passing here and there. Aoi severely lacks female friends of any kind. Even the friends she makes in her new class are there in the story because of their connection to Shusei and serve as a cause of romantic tension.

Shusei’s love rival on the other hand is just delightful. He's sweet and kind with just the right amount of sass and manliness. He went out of his way to be kind to Aoi but also respects her boundaries and her decision to reject him when he time comes.

The manga is still ongoing which sucks because I would really like to know what happens in the end. Overall up to Vol. 24, it still remains one of my favorite shoujo manga with some solid, solid characters, romance, and plot with minimum annoyances. 4 stars over all rating.

Aoi just wanted to give the school prince a piece of her mind for rudely turning down her best friend's - Moe - confession. That little encounter leads us down the long road in this wonderful manga. After Shuusei knows who she is, he discovers that they are also neighbors in their apartment complex. Much to Aoi's dismay.

But it gets worse! After she defends Shuusei from some creepy stalker girls and decides to cook in his apartment, the stove catches on fire and ruins his apartment. Which means... he's going to be moving in with her and they are going to live together while his is getting fixed.

She tries hard to keep it from Moe that they are living together. Not wanting her best friend to think ill of her but it comes out anyway... Not to mention, Aoi just might be falling for Shuusei...

This manga is so cute. I'm so picky when it comes to manga. I only like certain art styles and if a plot line is too far out there then I just can't. Not of that matters in this one as the art style is stunning! I don't have any complaints at all. Just praise for the art and it's lovely. Also the plot line is believable for the most part because it's contemporary.

This is a long manga and not all the volumes are out yet, so if that bothers you, wait a little while before getting into this manga but I don't mind to wait for each volume.

Overall, I think this is going to be a cute series filled with laughter, drama, and heartwarming moments and that's exactly what I need right now.

Update: This series MAY be interesting for young adults. otherwise, it is trivial as the majority of manga and graphic novel. I don't ever know why i do read it in the first place :P but will keep the review and rating as a memory if there is such a thing.

Generally speaking, when I start reading a chapter I can not stop ,I would be excited to know what would happen next. I enjoyed the first 12 chapters -until Shussi confess to her-and in few last chapters too-when Reon appeared. However, the chapters in-between were a bit boring .I mean they were kind of very normal daily life. Plus, there are a lot of coincidences which are not well and confusing. Aoi was silly when she accept everyone to live in her apartment and later does not want something to happen between them! this is contradiction .

I also watched 2014 movie which was awful don't waste time watching it !

This one was pretty cute and alil sexy but nothing to sexual.. yet. High school students Aoi at first trying to get Shusei to see her bff likes him but it's no use since he doesn't care for fangirls. This annoys her but also starts there friendship slowburn relationship. There are few banters and push and pulls between the two now that they are roommates. And so many females wanting Shusei

Ow drama, slight secondary character, drama

Shusei deserved the punch

I remembered reading this title way, way back in my early teens and I only got around the first volume, I can't even remember if I finished it. Now, it's clear to me why. I hate love rivals so much, and with the first volume's cliffhanger, I'd drop this in a heartbeat.

I can't believe it though, years after and I still have the same thought, albeit a little more cringed... I'd definitely enjoy it back then though if I dared to continue it.

I even went my way to search for the meaning of LDK! Years after and I still didn't know about it!! And the fact that it's written in capslock on the description only means I'm blind.

LIVING, DINING, AND KITCHEN lol.

So, that's the whole concept of the story; two high schoolers renting apartments. Shusei Kugayama is Aoi Nishimori's new neighbor, and he also happened to be the guy she just confronted on school grounds for rejecting her best friend. They got neighbor-friendly with each other, and when an accident happened that trashed the apartment, Shusei asked Aoi's permission to crash in her home while the apartment is under renovation. Love blooms between the two neighbors...

This is fluffy and Shusei Kugayama is handsome and funny... but there are times when he's over the top. A definite classic shoujo red flag. Yes, I said it. Aoi Nishimori may also be your typical shoujo heroine but at least she punches them out of her way. I kind of love her, just how I love Misaki Ayuzawa. Overall, I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars because there are still some cute moments that I hold on to... but I liked sensei's Men's Life series more.

НОВАТА МИ ЛЮБИМА МАНГА!

Беше толкова сладка, смешна и абсурдна на моменти. Идеалното лежерно четиво, когато просто ти се иска да разпуснеш и нищо да не те натоварва.

First of all I have to comment on the art, really nice indeed!! Now the story was okay, different from the movie (thankfully) and a bit strange for a classic school life shoujo to have so much sexual content, but still its fine. I don't really like the male lead, he's clearly taking advantage of Aoi and he plays with her but it's tooo early to tell.

Aoi and Sushei who become neighbors with a disdain for each other. Shushei is known as the high school prince. He turns down Moe, who is Aoi's friend when she confesses her feelings. Aoi tells him off, when he brings her a present when he first moves in next door this begins their relationship. She is over his place helping out and sets the fire too high that causes his sprinklers to go off. He is forced to move in with her and it is a whirlwind of drama, teasing and romance. I enjoyed the story cause of its attention grabbing effect right away and focuses alot on them together. It made me nervous and on the edge of my seat when was he going to kiss her?!?! Will they or wont they be more intimate! as the story continues you discover more about Shushei's darkened past and how naive Aoi is but the way they care for each other is so sweet.

Oh Jesus what is up with these Shoujo's I am reading lately. They are all centering around an abusive male love interest and an spineless heroines.

In this case heroine is mad at the soon to be love interest because he rejected her friends love confession. And then certain things happen and they end up living together and she starts going googly eyed for him. And this all happens within a chapter. UGH!!!

To say this guy is an ass is an understatement. He has no concept of personal space. Has no idea what "no" means, and continually almost assaults our heroine. And our heroine just goes along with it because she wuves him. No. NO. NO!! this is not sexy this is scary.

This manga also seems to suffer from absent parent syndrome. Siblings who are way to physical to the heroine. And I mean his siblings, her brother was awesome. And of course the Tsundere character who just can't help be an asshole. Doesn't everyone know you can be Tsundere and not be an asshole.

Just pass on this.

I picked this up because I thought the plot was familiar from my college days, but it turns out I was thinking of Good Morning Call. No worries, because I'm always here for forced proximity!

...until I'm not. The story moves waaaaay too fast - from 'I hate you but we need to share an apartment' to 'oops we're naked in the bath together' in less than a chapter. What? I don't get good vibes from this guy, and other reviews confirm, so I'm letting the book go at 70-some-odd pages.

This was okay. It was hot and steamy between the two from the first chapter. I thought it was good that she's pretty gutsy. I do however, get a little annoyed by her later on, because she acts stupidly, though when you think about it, it is logoically. But whatever. It's still good, cute, okay plot, lovely little romance.

I really love the first couple of volumes, they are so funny! I also like the chemistry, but after, I get a little bored, though that's not to say it's not good, of course!

This review is for all the volumes (chap 95). I don't know why I kept reading when the plot was a bit ridiculous. I can't help but admit that I like Shuushei and Aoi as a couple. I mean they were cute together. But there are a lot of things that did not sit well with me. It has scenes that were kind of disturbing..and some scenes felt a little forced.

I saw the first seven volumes of this series sitting on the shelf at my local library so I picked them up and blew threw them in a few days. LDK is an unrelentingly generic high school romance manga. The twist here is that the girl accidentally ends up living in a tiny studio apartment with the most desired boy in her high school. Contrived sexual situations ensue. The main problem is neither of them have personalities and the side characters can barely manage a single quirk among them. The heroine is easily flustered by everything, which is convenient because all her love interest does is tease her mercilessly between bouts of brooding about his mysterious past. All the usual tropes are trotted out over the course of the seven books I read: bento lunches, summer festivals, yukatas, fireworks, sister with a brother complex, cousin with a cousin complex, roguish older brother, first kisses, school festivals, etc., etc. etc. It's not awful, especially if you find comfort in those cliches, but don't pick up LDK expecting to find something original or of high quality.

If you’re like me and like reading romantic, sappy and silly but funny shōjo manga, where the male lead is a popular school hottie (all the girls want to be with him, and all the boys want to be him) and kind of a jerk, but has also a different, more caring and loving side that he (occasionally) only shows to one particular girl, then this might be just the right manga for you.

Did not enjoy.

I feel like this is justifying sexual assault and harassment. The art was so cringy because it was so bad. Proportions were off and details were done wrong were two of the major things I caught. Characters were poorly done and cut outs from other places. The story was cringy and questionable.

I first read this about 7 years ago, it was one of my first Manga reads ever!
Did re-reading this make me feel nostalgic? Yes!
Did I notice things I didn't back then? hell yeah!
Was it weird how teenage girls in Manga worship the hero? YES!!
Did it have a little bit of misogyny, bullying and body shaming? Yes!
But I'm over looking all of that cuz I'm here for the good times only, just want to get away from reality. And I'm starting to feel the butterflies.
Oh, and btw apparently his ex, might not be an ex, just showed up.

*fans myself* The manga that started the kabedon craze!!

And this is why the original works almost always beat the adaptation! I present LDK, Living, Kitchen, Dining...Love? a work I didn't expect to like this much. But the live action is pretty good too!!!

Aoi Nishimori is living by herself and enjoying her independence when her best friend, Moe, is turned down cruelly by the school Prince, Shusei Kugayama. Like any best friend would do, Aoi confronts him. She hates him and to her horrror, discovers he's her new neighbor.

To make things even worse, events make it so that Aoi and Shusei are forced to cohabit.

If you're worried that friends are swept under the rug in favor of romance, I wouldn't worry. Moe understands that she doesn't stand another chance confessing and realizes how much Aoi has done to keep their friendship strong: living by herself instead of transferring when her family must move.
And keeping the secret of living with Shusei so not to hurt her.

Thankfully, this manga deals with the complexity of feelings. Moe still likes Shusei but loves Aoi and wants her to finally do something for her happiness. She knows that Aoi is developing a crush on Shusei despite her efforts to hold onto that hatred she'd had.

But Shusei isn't a jerk. He has another side to him and when Aoi discovers this, she feels horrible for letting him creep into her heart. At first I was worried since she was falling for him in the first chapter, but think about it. Us girls talk about our crushes all the time and if one is particularly hot, they unconsciously leave a mark on our thoughts. So it's understandable that Aoi would be feeling a little hot under the collar for Shusei since he's been a big part of her conversations with Moe. Especially since they're trapped in a room together and they can both be themselves.

And I have to admit, a lot of some of these scenes made me blush. I don't know how Aoi could remain so collected in some of these haha, because dang. Shusei has a way with the ladies. ;)

It's simple, it's cute, it's not original. Just seeing that these two are forced to live together no doubt bring to mind some classics:

Itazure Na Kiss Love in Tokyo

Marmalade Boy

So basically, if you can put up with this setting and are okay with just a fun, and simple story, you're set! Just beware that the content is a little more mature than the standard shojo. There's nothing sexual in it, but I think this might be a smut title later on as the series continues.

Recommended! I bought this and don't support scans.

This was absolutely adorable! It’s been awhile since I have read Shojo, thank god for Amazon kindle unlimited for having this!

I absolutely love Aoi but like most Shojo female characters she is very innocent and naive. Although I also found Aoi to be strong in her own way. She loves her friend Moe and would do anything for her, even ignore her possible growing feelings for high schools prince Shu.

I liked Shu, however I struggled with his disregard of women but most importantly I got really angry when he punched Aoi and made it seem as if she was fat. Which puts people on my sh*t list fast. As someone who struggled with ED and had someone pinch me once and say the same thing...it just really irked me in the wrong way. Some might say I’m being all sensitive about this but it’s just not okay. I understand he was trying to make “light” of a certain situation but still not okay. So hopefully on the next volume he will redeem himself.

As for the art style, I am not sure if I really like it. I loved the cute chibi forms but I felt like Aoi’s eyes were drawn out of proportion to her body. Haha that might be me seeing things. I definitely felt like it got better through the first volume.

As for the plot, I don’t have much to say about it since it’s still getting established. I like this idea of enemies to lovers vibes that is going on. I also love that Aoi is not just fawning over Shu and there is something to build between them.

A whirlwind romance that escalates so intensely that you’re at the end of a crazy chapter of ear-biting, handcuff-wearing shenanigans before you even know it.

The male love interest’s actions are so impressively shocking that I can’t formulate the words to analyse any of the characters’ personalities or lack thereof. I’ll try harder not to get distracted in the next vol…
