Long story short, we have been lied to by so-called experts that used biased studies to prove their points. Though I knew already most of the common myths and topics Joey talked about, it's always nice to see people debunking facts we took too long for granted.
I liked the fact that the author proves any point he made by citing scientific literature. However, there are some points I do not agree with, especially at the beginning when he is mixing sugar and carbohydrates (including sugar). Banning industrial sugar from your diet will always have a positive effect and it is totally different from a low-carb (i.e. ketogenic diet).
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with by the book and would recommend it to anyone wishing to improve his knowledge on nutrition.
I'm tapping on a kindle so I'll keep it short, but I'm working my way through all of his books. Well researched, warmly written, utterly to the point, and clean as a whistle. Soothing and sane as heck in a confusing and contradictory world. I'm sorry he suffered so much physically and mentally to get to where he is now, but we are lucky to have the benefits of his experiences. I feel something like personal affection for this kind Soul. Read him and be calmed.
As a newbie to food and nutrition, I enjoyed this book. I learned a thing or two about food myths (most of which I hadn't even heard of, due primarily to my disinterest in such topics), and the correlation between nutrition and our overall health. The delivery is straightforward and easy, the author did a beautiful job of putting things in perspective, as well as in layman's terms. In that sense, I can highly recommend this book to anyone who is remotely interested in (but know hardly anything about) food and its effect on our health.
However, I sometimes found the explanations a bit insufficient. In other words, the segue from the evidence that debunks the myths and the author's conclusion didn't come across as convincing enough at times.
That said, this book is surely a nice introduction to the world of food and nutrition, and once again, I enjoyed reading it.
For a short read this book on debunking food myths packs a punch.
From meet rots in the gut and causes cancer, to dairy causes insulin resistance, the author uses hard data to debunk popular food myths. Myths that are deeply embedded in our psyche.
This book is free, so do yourself a favor and give up the guilts. Buon appetito.
While some of the information listed in this book is beneficial to know. I feel some of the studies used to support the author's message is handpicked. But, its only on one or two chapters. The rest of the book is informative.
