How Anyone Can Win . . . Again and Again

We all know people who seem to move from success to success, with barely a pause or dip in between. They're always excited about the next big project or goal. When trouble comes, they land on their feet. They are role models and opinion makers who lead rewarding lives.

Larry Weidel has spent decades studying the mindset and behaviors of these serial winners. In a world full of people who almost win, these are the few who do it repeatedly and consistently. Distilling lessons learned from famous mentors, from his own life, and from others' winning patterns, Larry has identified the five basic actions of the Cycle of Winning.

In Serial Winner, he explains how you

*Move forward when you feel stuck.
*Crush early doubts and give yourself the best shot of succeeding.
*Become an overcomer and win anyway.
*Maintain your mental toughness through the last 2 percent.
*Rebound from one win toward another that's bigger and better.

Through inspiring and funny stories and no-nonsense advice, Larry exposes the myths and facts about successful people and shares essential insights into achieving whatever you want in life. Whether you're just starting a venture or looking to get out of a longstanding rut, Serial Winner shows you the steps for creating a regular pattern of success!

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

I really enjoyed this book, and found it to be an inspirational lift as I recover from open heart surgery and being mentally preparing to return to work within the next 4-6 weeks. This book would be beneficial for anyone undergoing a transition or change.

The book relies on 5 simple action steps. As a health educator, Weidel's model reminded me a little of a generic programming model: assess your problems, plan, implement, evaluate/assess success and failures, and repeat.

I also appreciated the examples and stories that Weidel included. I found them ones that I could relate to, and they held my attention.

I think many would find value in this book! Happy reading!

The biggest joke I've read in a book recently:

Donald Trump gets up at 5: 00 a.m. every day. It’s time-consuming to stay informed. He reads stacks of newspapers, cuts out relevant articles, and passes them on to his staff for follow-up. He thinks it gives him an advantage, and it does.

This is a very average book but it's not bad per se.

The gist of it is your college fratboy buddy telling you: just brute force it bro. Just power through.

Impose your will.

So there are no clever reframings to help motivate us, no warnings of traps and pitfalls, no game theory or psychology or business advice.

That being said, it is trying to communicate a mindset. You can't really control how smart or talented you are, but you can definitely control this, and there's definitely a winner mindset and a loser mindset.

"They don’t even consider the “excuse for failure” parachute. They’re all in."
Excuses = no commitment.

"Serial winners don’t run from the awkwardness or grinding effort of growth. They embrace it."

Growth mindset.

Staying motivated:
"measurement and competition,
learning from those who have already won,
putting their own twist on it, and
working better."

This book goes back to the basics (and aren't those the most important?) And gives you relevant examples, tips, and ways to achieve that.

It also tells it like it is: serial winners are doers. And that's true. You cannot win if you don't try and try and try 🤷‍♀️💪

I like this kind of books: they remind me of things I need to hear over and over until I do things without hesitation (you do AND have doubts) until I win 🏆

If you need motivation, this is a good one. I listened to it on Audible and the narrator excellent 👌

I give this book 3.5 stars. There is a chapter for each action:
1. Don't Hesitate, Decide
2. Don't Just Do It, Overdo It
3. Don't Quit, Adjust
4. Don't Just Start, Finish
5. Don't Settle, Keep Improving

Then within each chapter are more actions and some inspirational quotations and stories. All the actions are basic. Essentially, you need to constantly move forward towards a goal, be good at what you do, deliver quality results, adjust if needed, and start the cycle again.

This book was full of cliches and platitudes. There didn't seem to be much research to back up any of his thoughts, other than finding quotes that seem relevant. It also used Scriptures out of context in order to support itself. Several things seemed to contradict themselves within the book.
This felt more like a long essay by someone without experience in the topic, but with the ability to come up with ideas.

ABSOLUTE GOLD!!!

Fantastic tips and guidelines which are simple to understand. The hard part is DOING them consistently. Mr. Weidel provides reasons and examples making his "cycle" undeniably grounded.

Great book.

It's an inspiring book , though it sounds repetitive regarding some topics. For those who are seeking for worldviews to adopt in their own lives, from the standpoint of winners, I highly recommend that book.

Worth reading in the period when you kinda need to push through. The book is on building loop of discomfort but in a good way - to be better and to do what you want to do in life.
Decide, over perform, push to the end, correct, improve, decide…

Good Pep Talk

Solid information explained in a clear cut pattern. To sum the book up......

Decide, Overdo, Adjust, Finish, Keep Improving.

Those are the keys.

The main idea of this book is to always be working to be better. To be a serial winner you need to keep trying and not become discouraged. If one way does not work, try another.

Helpful. At times really to the point.

Didn't find the writing engrossing at all, sadly. Solid advice, just could've been served better.

Still, should be worth your while. It's a 3.5/5.

This was a motivational speech, not a the practical book I thought it would be. It's about believing you can do it, and being willing to get up and try again when things go wrong, and learning from people who have already succeed (rather than listening to those who haven't).

It's not wrong or poorly written. But there's nothing new and it's not 5 "actions". It's five mindset shifts. Oh well.

This is a book that carry the self-help label with pride. It has most of the strong points you come to expect form the genre, and also some of the flaws.

As with most books dealing with self-improvement, the core ideas could easily be laid out in a couple of pages. 10% of the book is about the methodology and core notions on how to become a serial winner, and 90% is a bunch of stories, anecdotes, phrases and examples to support it.

This one consists in five simple truisms that make a good framework for the author to expand on how to act decisively and with a strong focus, adjusting during the way, always finishing and keep aiming higher (or expanding on new goals) after the first set of goals is achieve.

You have to be in the mood for this one, as with most self-help books. You won’t find any secrets or hidden gems on how to achieve success, just a good peep talk. And sometimes, that’s all that you need when you feel compelled to read a book called Serial Winner.

Inspiring and practical

If you want a great overview of the habits and attitudes of consistent winners, look no further. This book was inspirational, and it also made me take an honest look at my weaknesses and fears, which have prevented me from achieving many goals in life. I've been forced to recognize where my attitude has fallen short and my actions have been insufficient to give me momentum. As little as I like reading self-help books, this one was chock full of excellent advice, and I am a better person for having read it. I'm eager to put its recommendations into practice!

This is a great book full of wisdom on the principles of success. Anyone interested in doing more, being more and achieving more in life should read this book. Its simplicity belies the deep and profound truths within. Applying these principles will no doubt turn the reader, and more importantly, the DOER, into a serial winner.

First, I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway. (Thank you!) This book has given me mental tools to become a "serial winner." You know, those people who are driven and successful and always doing something to better their lives. I want to be one, and this book lets me see the steps in which I (ME!) can also be successful and driven. There is hope !!!

Nothing but truisms

This book is a complete waste of time. There is nothing here but truisms. Basically, the book tells you that if you want to succeed, you should work hard and smart, and that you should get up and try again if at first you don't succeed. That's all. Really. I wish I could get my money back.

I received this book as a First Read. It's a slow read and a bit dry. A lot of the tips are common sense - set goals, don't be lazy, be persistent, get mentors, keep improving yourself, etc. Still, it's a good pep talk to avoid complacency and comfort and dream big so we can achieve big.

I found the book helpful but sounds like the writer was one lucky soul to be placed in such good company. The words were insightful but I can only be half as lucky to know all the winners the writer knew

Got halfway through the book. Much of it seems like common sense and intuitive if you are a natural born leader and have experienced success and failures. Some of the book was repetitive as well. Overall wld recommend this book if you are looking for a quick, easy book.
