Cute, short and unexpectedly kinky - I enjoyed this novella. Jaylene is a strong woman who is use to being in charge but Noah prefers to be in charge in the bedroom. I loved Noah and when he and Jaylene get together they sure know how to turn up the heat in the bedroom.

When going to confront her friend after having set her up on a horrible blind date Jaylene Kim runs into a new neighbor moving into the building. After spending some time with Noah, Jaylene finds that the two have a lot in common including their love for reading and running. However, Jaylene considers herself a feminist and Noah's preferences don't seem to go with Jaylene's beliefs.
Mistaken is a story of a mismatched relationship of one person's beliefs are completely opposite of the other. The idea behind the story was appealing however I really didn't care for Jaylene for about 80-85% of the story so it brought my rating down.
Jaylene is a feminist, but she's the preachy/judgmental type that wants to push her women's rights beliefs on others and pretty much anything that a man does seems to be wrong in her eyes. When she started on her rant about erotic literature and degrading women that choose to read it that I almost stopped reading completely. Her views are just so narrow minded that it was driving me crazy. I'm all for equal treatment of woman but that should involve choice for a woman to choose whatever she would like, including reading a dirty book if they chose to.
Jaylene's attitude also made me sit and debate woman's rights and her ideas more than actually getting involved into the story as I was reading. I was too busy rolling my eyes at some of her statements and actions to wonder where the relationship would lead or what would happen. I found it a little strange too that her chosen career is a teacher when that is a predominately female profession but yet she refuses to learn to cook due to the woman in the kitchen stereotypes.
Luckily the ending to this saved the story for me a bit. For the majority of the book I was really really disliking Jaylene and her judgy behavior and was considering a one star rating and not bothering to finish. I gave this three stars in the end as I did think the writing was good, I did enjoy Noah throughout, and thought Lacy's speech to Jaylene at the end deserved a high five so all of that sort of save the story for me.

MisTaken is a fun, flirty, and sexy novella in the fantastic Miss Match series by Laurelin McGee! This dynamic writing duo gives us so many laughs and tons of swoon-worthy moments with their latest release, and I could tell right away that there was absolutely NO putting this down.

I have to admit I had been looking forward to this book as I love both of the authors that make up the pen name Laurelin McGee. On the other hand, I had thought that it might have like a mistaken identity type storyline as I enjoy those. Mistaken turned out to be a Matchmaking type novel and a tale of a feminist learning to give over control in the bedroom and that sometimes in life, you can be a feminist and stand strong for the female sex, but ultimately have to admit that there are a few things that males outweigh females in and one of those is what they can do in the bedroom and behind closed doors. Jaylene Kim has had a string of bad dates and blind ones, and the date her neighbor set her up on was the last straw. She just wants someone who she can talk to about books, life and someone who will accept her for who she is. Enter Noah, he has just moved into the apartment building by Jaylene, and the pair seems to click. Noah is an introvert but with a kinky side as he is, in fact, an erotic romance writer a occupation far from the cocaine dealer that Jaylene thinks he must be as he is quite secretive about his work which if you were a male erotica romance writer, I'm sure you too would keep it on the down low or at least use a pen name. Mistaken also turned out to be a Novella whereas I thought that it would be a full novel, so it is a quick-ish read. If you are looking for a contemporary romance with a few heated scenes and laughs, then check out Mistaken by Laurelin McGee. Though this is Book #1.5, it can be read as a stand-alone novel.

Nachdem ich bereits "Mr. Undateable", den ersten Band der "Miss Match"-Reihe, insgesamt ganz nett fand, war ich schon sehr gespannt auf "Miss Taken", eine knapp einhundertzehn Seiten lange Novelle. Hierbei hatte ich zunächst nicht allzu viele Erwartungen, allerdings wurde ich letztendlich doch besser unterhalten als zuvor gedacht.
Der Schreibstil liest sich flüssig, ist angenehm leicht, allerdings nicht anspruchslos, sodass man hier eine gut erzählte Geschichte mit liebevoll ausgearbeiteten Figuren und prickelnden Szenen erhält.
Erzählt wird hierbei dieses Mal die Geschichte von Jaylene, einer jungen Frau, die im ersten Band "Mr. Undateable" eines der Dates von Blake Donovan war, welches jedoch gnadenlos gefloppt ist. Jaylene ist weiterhin auf der Suche nach der großen Liebe und sucht dabei besonders einen Mann, der auf sie und ihre Wünsche eingeht und die selben Interessen hat.
Dies findet sie alles in ihrem neuen Nachbarn Noah, allerdings merkt sie auch schnell, dass sie durch Noah auch sich selbst noch mehr kennenlernen kann, was direkt neue Seiten in ihr hervorbringt...
Die Geschichte ist dabei insgesamt ganz nett, zwar oftmals sehr vorhersehrbar, allerdings dennoch unterhaltsam mit kleineren romantischen Momenten, aber auch mit durchaus humorvollen Szenen. Jaylene lernt man hierbei gut kennen und ich fand sie und Noah sehr sympathisch.
Die Covergestaltung gefällt mir dagegen mit seinen Quadraten sehr gut, auch das Model passt perfekt zu Jaylene, da ich sie mir fast genauso vorgestellt habe. Die Kurzbeschreibung konnte mich ebenfalls direkt überzeugen, sodass ich der Geschichte trotz Skepsis eine Chance gegeben habe.
Kurz gesagt: "Miss Taken" ist eine nette Novelle und somit gute Ergänzung zur "Miss Match"-Reihe, die sich insgesamt ganz nett liest, allerdings nicht zwingend ein Muss ist. Dennoch kann die Geschichte mit interessanten Figuren punkten, sodass sie für zwischendurch gut geeignet ist.

This is a short and sexy story about Jay and the mysterious Noah. Jay is Andy and Lacy’s neighbor and she was one of the unfortunate victims of Andy’s attempts of matchmaking for Blake Donovan, the sexy and infuriating book boyfriend from Miss Match . Well, for the good fortune of Jay, the night she had that disaster of a date with Donovan, she went directly to Andy’s to complain about it, and she met the gorgeous, intelligent and complicated Noah, the new tenant of Andy’s building. I won’t tell you what happens after they meet, because this novella is too short to ruin you with details—or spoilers, that’s not my style, but I can tell you that one feminist can find exactly what she was sure she didn’t need in a very enigmatic and sexy dominant.
I enjoyed this book so much. It’s sexy, funny and very entertaining, though I was annoyed by Jay’s stubbornness, but Noah was her perfect match and knew how to control her a little—at least in bed, hahaha. I really love Laurelin and Kayti’s writing style, it’s well paced, well descripted and most of all, the characters are well developed. Overall, great novella. 100% recommended.

Well, one thing was for certain … I am glad that this was a Novella. Jaylene and I did not hit it off. And, Noah, well, let’s just say that he really played his part well.
Please, don’t misunderstand what I said. This was an interesting story. It’s just that Jaylene is an extreme feminist and I’m not. Don’t get me wrong ... equal pay for equal work – absolutely … taking control of our sexual feelings – most definitely. But, being offended if a man opens a door for me? Getting defensive over a Romance Novel? A wee bit extreme for my tastes. And, after reading this book, I honestly think and admire Lauelin McGee for writing her the way they did. What a way to get the reader’s attention!
Noah, well he had one hell of a secret and, when it came out … BOOM! Of course, when it did come out, he had one big thing on his side. Dominance in the bedroom. Someone finally showed Jay just what she was missing by trusting a man with her pleasure and Noah just happened to be that someone.
Jaylene finally came to her senses after a stern talking to by her friends. Noah finally comes clean with her about his occupation. Jaylene finally understands just what a man can bring to the table. Noah finally understands that he may really have nothing to be embarrassed about. Enough said.
Again, Laurelin McGee really amused me with this little story. It was well written, it was fast paced and it was aggravating. True signs of a hit. Aggravate the reader with the obnoxious female and then turn them on with the sex that sets that female free. Win – win. And, believe me, when Noah took control, he lost control and brought Jaylene spiraling right with him.

I read Miss Match back in July 2015, and with lots of other books in between, I've barely remembered about the story. I thought this novella had no correlation with Miss Match, but after few pages trough chapter 1 it finally hits me who actually Jaylene Kim is.
If you've read Miss Match you must be remember one of the women Drea tried to set up with her asshole boss—Blake Donovan. Jaylene was one of those matchmaker's 'victims'. Remember that Asian girl who lives near Drea's place? Yeah, that's Jaylene Kim.
This book was about Jaylene aka Jay with her new neighbor Noah.
Honestly the story took me by surprise. Didn't expect the story would be this HOT!
Jay was an English teacher and was a feminist, and Noah happened to be a guy who loved literatures. So they kind of 'connected' when they talked about books.
Like I said earlier, this story was so unexpected. I couldn't believe Noah was actually an LOL
I don't know how I feel about it tbh... I've never read a book where the hero has the same occupation as Noah haha.
Since it only has 8 chapters, I didn't really feel the chemistry between Jay and Noah.
You know, NA cliché aka insta-lust *trying so hard to not rolling my eyes*
And it was pretty disappointing that it was written in third person POV, instead of first person, dual POV like the previous book.
But I enjoyed this. Although I didn't like alpha male. Because I personally hate being ordered around.

Jaylene Kim is an independent woman who has struck out on love over and over and over again! After one more night of dates from hell Jaylene bumps into Noah and boom things are definitely looking up...or is it?
Noah has a secret that he is hiding from Jaylene because she has opened her mouth and clearly stated that she is not into what he is into. So what's a guy to do when the woman he wants doesn't want to walk on the wild side? Show her how great being wild can be of course!

Overall I think this book was short, sweet and super sexy.
This book was a great addition to the series. Although book 1 in this series still owns my heart 100% this one kept things light and cheerful without too much drama...because hold on to your seats because things get a little dark in the next book. Very good job Laurelin McGee.

Second novella in Hot Alpha’s anthology, and I liked it so much better. This one is part of a series to but holds up so much better as a standalone than the first novella did. Jaylene Kim of a Korean descendant is a feminist who doesn’t believe in romance. New guy Noah Harrison moves in next door and catches her eye.
What did I like? Noah has some secrets of his own, a loner, introvert, but dominant male likes what he see’s when he looks at Jaylene. Jaylene has some feminist stand point which almost seem ridiculous on the wrong guy...and so good on the right one.
Would I recommend or buy? I thought this novella was great and I would definitely be interested in more of this series, just hawt.
Thoughts for the author? I rarely give above a three for a novella sized book, would love to see the rest of the series though. I received a copy and this is my opinion.

Dear god. I seem to be on a feminazi rollercoaster to hell. The last 3 books I've read have had heroines who think they can't have kinky sex or cook or wash dishes because they're feminists.
I'm glad this one at least learned her lesson. However, it was a long, annoying struggle to read on her road to enlightenment.

I honestly didn't care for this story much at all. The secrecy. The ultra-feminism. The hiding of his (perfectly respectable) career. Very little made sense to me. I liked the two sisters. They were the highlight of this Novella.

“Miss Taken” ist eine Novella aus der Miss Match – Reihe. Obwohl ich noch keines der Bücher aus der Reihe kenne, bin ich trotzdem gut in die Handlung gekommen und habe ich mich auch toll amüsiert. Von daher würde sagen, dass man das Buch auch ohne Vorkenntnis lesen kann.
Jaylene lässt sich auf ein Blind Date ein und trifft hier auf Blake. Frustriert von diesem Date kehrt sie nach Hause zurück und lernt hier ihren Nachbar Noah kennen und er ist genau, wie sie sich einen Mann vorstellt. Allerdings hat auch er ein Geheimnis.
Die Handlung war richtig toll. Es war zwar sehr kurz, aber die Autorinnen geben dem Leser keine Pause und so war es ebenso wirklich unterhaltsam. Auch die Mischung aus Humor und Gefühlen war genau richtig und es war nicht zu viel von einem da. Ich fand es auch recht amüsant, wie sich die beiden näherkommen, denn die Autorin macht es den beiden nicht leicht.
Die Beschreibung von Jaylene empfand ich als gelungen. Sie ist aus meiner Sicht eine typische Feministin und ich fand es witzig, dass sie sich dennoch auf ein Blind Date eingelassen hat. Ich würde sie auch als sympathisch bezeichnen.
Der Schreibstil war sehr flüssig und locker. Die Erzählung wird aus wechselnder Perspektive erzählt, was ganz interessant war, denn man erfährt so doch einiges. Auch war die Handlung wunderbar verständlich und hat sich leicht verfolgen lassen.
Das Cover gefällt mir wirklich sehr gut. Ich fand die Farbwahl und das Design sehr ansprechend.

“Miss Taken” ist eine Novella aus der Miss Match – Reihe. Obwohl ich noch keines der Bücher aus der Reihe kenne, bin ich trotzdem gut in die Handlung gekommen und habe ich mich auch toll amüsiert. Von daher würde sagen, dass man das Buch auch ohne Vorkenntnis lesen kann.
Jaylene lässt sich auf ein Blind Date ein und trifft hier auf Blake. Frustriert von diesem Date kehrt sie nach Hause zurück und lernt hier ihren Nachbar Noah kennen und er ist genau, wie sie sich einen Mann vorstellt. Allerdings hat auch er ein Geheimnis.
Die Handlung war richtig toll. Es war zwar sehr kurz, aber die Autorinnen geben dem Leser keine Pause und so war es ebenso wirklich unterhaltsam. Auch die Mischung aus Humor und Gefühlen war genau richtig und es war nicht zu viel von einem da. Ich fand es auch recht amüsant, wie sich die beiden näherkommen, denn die Autorin macht es den beiden nicht leicht.
Die Beschreibung von Jaylene empfand ich als gelungen. Sie ist aus meiner Sicht eine typische Feministin und ich fand es witzig, dass sie sich dennoch auf ein Blind Date eingelassen hat. Ich würde sie auch als sympathisch bezeichnen.

Jaylene Kim was a pretty memorable character from when I read Miss Match, short though her appearance was. This novella starts at the aftermath of her scene there, recapping her terrible date with that book’s hero. The only thing is, the strong woman I found so amusing and admirable from that story is no longer all that funny.
Instead she’s superior and judgemental and has a habit of taking things just because they’re in front of her (food, napkins, books). Her opinions are strong and extremely firmly stated and she’s presented as the type of feminist who believes equality for women means all women should be like she is – a well educated woman who sneers at those who make different choices to the ones she has. She’s not a man hater, though. No, she likes pretty men and wants them in her life. Instead it seems to be other women that she doesn’t like much, or at least thinks really badly of if they don’t meet her ridiculously high standards.
Noah is the complete opposite. He’s a bit shy, kind of cute and not big on interacting with people. I thought he was adorable. Well, sometimes. Because Noah’s a bit weird. Not a weirdo, I mean his whole character is weirdly disjointed. One moment he’s thinking about how bad he is with people and wants Jaylene to leave, then he never wants her to go, except he saves all his people skills for his job – implying that he spends time with other people a lot, except he’s more of a recluse who doesn’t give interviews and tries to stay out of the limelight. As for the sudden appearance of his D/s preferences… that came out of nowhere and really didn’t fit with anything else about his character.
In fact the whole D/s stuff didn’t work for me. Noah is never convincing as a Dom, while Jaylene isn’t the least bit submissive. I also really hated that Jaylene knows nothing about him, yet apparently trusts him implicitly in bed, until she remembers he’s never actually told her what his job is. The sexual side of their relationship just feels completely false, shoving Noah into an alpha role that he isn’t fit for. As for all the mystery around his completely obvious job, while I could get that Jaylene wouldn’t make the leap because such an idea would never occur to her, the way that Noah’s POV tries to keep it a secret from the reader throughout is just ridiculous.
The one thing that moderately redeems this book for me – Lacy. She’s amazing. I love the way she stood up to Jaylene and confronted her judgemental attitude head on, defending all the readers that Jaylene’s earlier rants had attacked. She restored my faith in this writing team and I can’t wait to read her story. As for this one – sorry, it didn’t work for me.

Different to what I expected...
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
MisTaken was not what I expected it would be. For a novella, I was astounded by how long it took me to finish it. This took me by surprise as I thoroughly enjoyed Laurelin Paige’s book First Touch. Noticing this book was co-written by Laurelin Paige and Kayti McGee, my curiosity piqued and I was quick to put my hand up to read it. It does delve into BDSM, but in a light and non-confronting way. I agonised over how to write this review, understanding what didn’t work for me could very well be the reason someone else gravitates to a book.
The biggest hurdle I struggled with was I didn’t connect with the main characters, Jaylene and Noah. Jaylene came across as indecisive and Noah evasive. Jaylene, a strong feminist, was so caught up in her personal ethics she allowed it to overrule her choices. She entertained short inner battles about how to deal with a potential relationship that went against her principles. When Noah asks her to consider his point of view, he does so in a way not to coerce her rather justify his stance on the matter. The self-questioning and inner dialogue frustrated me when they arose.
The first scene didn’t divulge a lot of information and set the tone of the writing. Revelations come through to both the reader and characters simultaneously. I usually enjoy this style, trying to figure out the unknown before it is revealed but I didn’t feel drawn to do so with this book. It was the inner monologues and pontificating about opinions that distracted me to the point I was frustrated. For two people who had a lot in common, it felt strange they were so reserved at times.
I’ve noticed a trend with romance novels of late, where the heroine is an avid reader. It was an instant connection to begin with but it now is starting to come across as an easy way to have the reader to associate with the heroine. There were many references to books found on Noah’s bookshelf, relevant considering Jaylene is an English teacher but it again felt overdone.
The emphasis on commonality was the focus of this story but rather than add to the romance it drove it. At times, the story came across as an exposition rather than a romance. Trouble is, when I’m reading a novel I am in the mood for escape, whether that be through fantasy, drama, suspense, romance or even horror, I don’t want to be focusing on why I’m reading it.
What readers will enjoy is this is a complete story and there’s a preview of the next book to come, MisMatched, featuring Andy and Lacy, who were secondary characters in MisTaken. Undecided whether I would continue with this series although the premise of Andy’s story has me thinking…

Mein Fazit:
Das Cover ist sehr ähnlich zu dem aus Band 1 der Reihe gehalten. Jaylene hat man bereits im Vorgänger kurz kennengelernt. Da mir Band 1 ganz gut gefallen hat, war ich dementsprechend neugierig auf dieses Buch. Die Geschichte umfasst viel weniger Seiten als Band 1, kostet dafür aber auch nur 1/3 von Mr. Undateable. Es handelt sich bei dieser Reihe um ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt zweier Autorinnen. Geschrieben ist in der Erzähler-Perspektive. Der Schreibstil ist flüssig mit genau der richtigen Portion Humor und Erotik. Es ist eine ausgewogene Mischung, wodurch man das Buch schnell fertig gelesen hat, was nicht zuletzt an der geringen Seitenanzahl liegt. Die Perspektiven wechseln auch in diesem Teil manchmal mitten im Text, was ich persönlich aber nicht so gravierend wie in Teil 1 fand. Jaylene ist eine typische Feministin. Sie ist unabhängig, stark, selbstbewusst und weiß genau was sie will. Doch als sie auf den attraktiven Noah trifft, scheint sie sich in ein kleines Mädchen zu verwandeln und ihre Selbstsicherheit in Luft aufzulösen. Noah ist überaus attraktiv und trägt ein Geheimnis mit sich rum. Beide haben eine Schwäche für Literatur. Beide Charaktere waren mir sympathisch. Noah sein Geheimnis war für mich ziemlich schnell klar und daher keine große Überraschung. Generell gibt es hier keine wirklich großen Spannungsmomente. Die Anziehung zwischen den beiden ist von der ersten Begegnung an spürbar gewesen. Man begegnet hier auch kurz den vorherigen Charakteren. Auch hier kam mir wie bereits in Band 1 das Ende wieder viel zu abrupt. Man ist gerade mitten im Lesefluss, als dann auf einmal Schluss ist. Ich hätte mir bei beiden Büchern einen Epilog gewünscht um die Geschichte etwas runder abzuschließen. Ich würde mich freuen, wenn Lacy auch noch ihre eigene Geschichte bekommt. Alles in allem ein toller zweiter Teil, für den ich gern eine Leseempfehlung ausspreche.

"Miss Taken" ist die zweite Geschichte des Autorenteams Lauren McGee. Der erste Teil subt tatsächlich noch bei mir, aus unerklärlichen Gründen. Da ich dieses Jahr meine Ebook Leichen abarbeiten möchte, habe ich nun den zweiten Teil vor den ersten gelesen. Der Schreibstil gefiel mir ganz gut. Er war flüssig,locker und mit einer Prise Humor. Die Geschichte wird in der Erzähl-Perspektive erzählt. Durch die wechselnden Perspektiven bekommt man schnell einen kleinen Einblick in die Gedanken und Gefühle der Protagonisten. Gerne hätte ich noch einen tieferen Einblick gehabt aber durch die kürze des Buches war dies nicht möglich. Trotzdem war der Unterhaltungswert der Geschichte echt gut.
Zu den Protagonisten, Jaylene Kim ist eine starke, emanzipierte und selbstbewusste Frau. Sie ist jemand der geradewegs ihre Meinung sagt und für die Rechte der Frauen eintritt. Ihre Nachbarin Andy hat sie zu einem Date mit ihrem Chef überredet, da sie nicht so ist geht sie hin. Doch genau dieses Date stellt sich als Katastrophe heraus. Den der Chef von Andy sucht nur eine Vorzeige Frau für Heim und Herd. So macht sie sich auf den Weg Andy ein parr Takte zu geigen und trifft auf dem Heimweg auf den neuen Nachbar Noah.
Noah ist attraktiv und schon ein wenig geheimnisvoll. Beide finden schnell heraus das sie einiges gemeinsam haben, besonders die Literatur. Er macht ein großes Geheimnis darum was er beruflich macht was Jay erst recht neugierig macht. Da er aber ihre Meinung über gewisse Dinge schon kennt lässt er Vorsicht walten, um sie nicht zu vergraulen bevor es richtig angefangen hat.
Aber an sich war das Geheimnis von Noah sehr schnell durchschaubar und nicht wirklich eine große Überraschung. Vielleicht liegt es auch daran das man schon so einiges, in diesem Genre gelesen hat, wer weiß. Auch verstand ich nicht warum sich so eine selbstbewusste Frau in einen Teenager verwandelt hat. Ihre große Selbstsicherheit am Anfang der Geschichte war weg, als sie auf Noah trifft. Klar kann ich bei so einem kurzen Buch nicht viele Spannungsmomente erwarten, dennoch hätte ich da gerne mehr gehabt. Besonders wenn man gerade mitten in der Geschichte ist und sie plötzlich endet obwohl man das Gefühl hat da könnte noch mehr kommen. Was mir hier auch fehlte war ein Epilog. Der hätte die Geschichte nochmal schön abrunden können.
"Miss Taken" hat mich wunderbar unterhalten, auch wenn mir die Geschichte persönlich viel zu kurz war. Man ahnt relativ schnell in welche Richtung die Geschichte verlaufen wird dennoch war der Weg bis dahin sehr humorvoll beschrieben. Die Novelle hat mich mit ihren beiden Charakteren kurzfristig in seinen Bann gezogen. Ich hoffe sehr das noch mehr von dem Autorenduo kommt und Band eins liegt schon bereit zum lesen.
Zu den Protagonisten, Jaylene Kim ist eine starke, emanzipierte und selbstbewusste Frau. Sie ist jemand der geradewegs ihre Meinung sagt und für die Rechte der Frauen eintritt. Ihre Nachbarin Andy hat sie zu einem Date mit ihrem Chef überredet, da sie nicht so ist geht sie hin. Doch genau dieses Date stellt sich als Katastrophe heraus. Den der Chef von Andy sucht nur eine Vorzeige Frau für Heim und Herd. So macht sie sich auf den Weg Andy ein parr Takte zu geigen und trifft auf dem Heimweg auf den neuen Nachbar Noah.
Noah ist attraktiv und schon ein wenig geheimnisvoll. Beide finden schnell heraus das sie einiges gemeinsam haben, besonders die Literatur. Er macht ein großes Geheimnis darum was er beruflich macht was Jay erst recht neugierig macht. Da er aber ihre Meinung über gewisse Dinge schon kennt lässt er Vorsicht walten, um sie nicht zu vergraulen bevor es richtig angefangen hat.
Aber an sich war das Geheimnis von Noah sehr schnell durchschaubar und nicht wirklich eine große Überraschung. Vielleicht liegt es auch daran das man schon so einiges, in diesem Genre gelesen hat, wer weiß. Auch verstand ich nicht warum sich so eine selbstbewusste Frau in einen Teenager verwandelt hat. Ihre große Selbstsicherheit am Anfang der Geschichte war weg, als sie auf Noah trifft. Klar kann ich bei so einem kurzen Buch nicht viele Spannungsmomente erwarten, dennoch hätte ich da gerne mehr gehabt. Besonders wenn man gerade mitten in der Geschichte ist und sie plötzlich endet obwohl man das Gefühl hat da könnte noch mehr kommen. Was mir hier auch fehlte war ein Epilog. Der hätte die Geschichte nochmal schön abrunden können.

Now, I get why the authors (writing duo Laurelin Paige and Kayti McGee) presented the characters as they did. But for me, the story took a sad second place to my complete annoyance with Jaylene. It wasn’t her rigid, accept no softening of her stance attitude – but come on, not going to learn how to cook because of women’s stereotypical position in the kitchen? Really? How about the basic need for survival of the species like… I dunno, eating to live. It wasn’t even her reluctance to give over her control in the bedroom – kink isn’t for everyone, but at least try before you decide it’s a deal breaker.
No, it was Jaylene’s absolute judgmental, I’m right you’re wrong if you don’t agree with me attitude. That “I’m superior to everyone else on the planet” attitude. Plus little Miss Jaylene is rather a light-fingered person – walking off with items that were not hers. I’m sorry I simply could not care a fig if she got a happy orgasm let alone a happy every after. Even when she got called on her actions and received a well deserved stern lecture from her friend – it didn’t redeem her in my eyes.
Noah on the other hand was a sweetheart and Jay did not deserve him (IMO). He’s already hesitant of letting people know what he does for a living – imagine his reluctance when he gets to hear Jaylene’s views on the subject. I was hoping that Noah would soften Jaylene in my eyes. But when she thought the worst of him without any true proof – yeah, I was totally done with second chances for her.
MisTaken got a 3 star rating from me which is a “good story”. I didn’t love it, didn’t like it at times but also didn’t hate it either. For me, this was simply one of those times when a good story was overpowered by my reaction to a not likable character. I could never get past Jaylene’s judgmental, superior, you’re an idiot if you don’t agree with me ways. Yet that might be exactly what you’ll enjoy about this story. So read it for yourself and make up your own mind.

Jaylene makes her first appearance in the series when Andy sets her up for a date with Blake in Miss Match – to put it lightly, it doesn’t work out very well at all. Jaylene lives in the same apartment complex with sisters Andy (from Miss Match) and Lacy (from Love Struck).
Jay notices Noah when he is moving into one of the apartments near her and there is instant mutual attraction. Jay is an activist and a feminist and as she gets to know Noah, she loves that he respects and encourages those parts of her. She is perplexed that he seems overly-guarded when he talks about certain parts of himself, like what his job is.
It turns out that Noah works in what is a very female-dominated field (no spoilers here!) and he is really successful at what he does. He is afraid that if Jay finds out what he does for a living, she will judge him or possibly even not want to see him anymore, with her feminist views and all.
I love love love the way gender stereotypes are challenged in this novella. Noah’s job is a fun and unexpected addition to this series and a great way to get Jay to loosen up a little bit. She made me tense at times just reading her scenes. She was borderline-unlikable in a few parts because of how she judged and stereotyped other people, but it was always awesome the way Noah was able to gently redirect her and make her see that what she was doing was exactly what she was fighting against. Also: the synopsis suggests that Noah “introduces Jay to a few new rules in the bedroom” which does indeed happen, but it is the way that all of this unfolds from start to finish that makes this novella charming.
This novella is such a fun little interlude from the other full-length novels in this series. I love the way the main players are still involved in the story, but the main plot-line is much more light-hearted and fun. This novella is my favorite of all of the installments of the series and went straight to my Kindle rereads shelf.

Reviewing on behalf of Relentless book chic’s ramblings and reviews
This is the 2nd book in the series I’ve read and I loved it(I’ve also read Love Struck so I’m reading in reverse order).
Jaylene is an English teacher so literature is a big part of her life. She loves to read but as a feminist, she refuses to read erotic romance as it goes against everything she believes in.
After a confrontation with her friend’s sister who had set her up on a really bad blind date, she comes across a new neighbour moving in and she likes what she sees.
Noah is a bit of a recluse; he keeps to himself and sleeps in late because he works at night. His job is mysterious, there are hints throughout the book as to what it could be but things are not always what they seem.
Although Jaylene is independant, confident and very opinionated, she soon finds herself being dominated by Noah in the bedroom and to her surprise, she loves it. She does struggle with that fact as it goes against how she perceives a feminist should be which makes her rethink some of her beliefs.
One day she is searching for a shirt to wear in Noah’s bedroom and she comes across a box full of packages, wrapped in brown paper. There has been an increase of drugs in the area recently and that coincides with when Noah moved it.
Jaylene convinces herself that she has worked out what his job is so she sneaks a package out in her handbag and goes to visit her friend Lacy(who’s story is told in Love Struck). When she opens it, she’s shocked by what she finds but she learns a very valuable lesson, helped along by Lacy who delivers a speech that puts her firmly in her place. She leaves to go and speak to Noah but will he be able to forgive her for judging him without knowing all the facts.
I think the authors who wrote this managed to fit every preconceived idea that people have about erotic romance and the people who read it into a fun novella that makes you reflect on your own views and preconceived ideas about others. As the saying goes, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and neither should you judge a person by the genre that they read, literally(lol).

REVIEW: 3 stars–MISTAKEN is the introductory novella to Laurelin McGee (aka Laurelin Paige/ Kayti McGee) new romance series focusing on the world of modern matchmaking. This is high school English teacher Jaylene Kim and Noah Harrison’s storyline. With her rigid feminist ideals and preconceived notions Jaylene is having difficulty adjusting to other people’s (both men and women) view of life. Enter Noah Harrison, a man with too many secrets that Jaylene is dying to uncover and a man who makes Jaylene question her feminist ways.
The $ex scenes are exploratory but Jaylene has a difficult time giving up control. Throughout the storyline our heroine’s rigid feminist views leave something to be desired both in and out of the bedroom; I question the couple’s attraction to one another as I did not feel the sexual chemistry or burning need.
As this is the introductory storyline to Laurelin McGee’s new series, I am hoping with the future installments the heroines are not so uncompromising or mired in such strict feminist beliefs. The overriding premise of feminism was too much for a romance storyline. I am all for equal rights, but I don’t like the ideals of radical feminism to be pounded into me from my romance heroines. I have a degree in sociology and took several courses in women’s studies but there are times when the idealists need to consider the target of their attacks and romance readers are not the ideal targets.

In MisTaken by Laurelin McGee, we get a dedicated story that surrounds proud feminist, Jaylene Kim. She is a friend and neighbor to the Dawson sisters, who are feature characters from other Laurelin McGee books. Jaylene meets handsome Noah Harrison, who moves into the same building as Lacy & Andrea (Andy) Dawson, and there were immediate fireworks between them – physically, and almost more importantly, intellectually. Through the book, we see their relationship develop, only to be something that doesn’t seem possible. Jaylene faces an internal battle of staying true to her feminist beliefs versus her willingness to compromise her behaviors within a committed relationship, as well as within the bedroom. Overall, this is a sweet story of what can happen when you meet just the right person and learn that you can still be true to yourself and discover a whole other side of yourself you never knew existed. A bit basic…but it’s a novella. Honestly, it seemed longer than a typical novella, which was a refreshing change of pace.
The one thing that I didn’t like about this book was the focus on Noah’s career – or lack of information about it. Despite a multitude of references, I was exactly 50% through the book when I figured out what Noah’s dang occupation was. It isn’t actually confirmed until very close to the end of the book. Trust me – it drove me CRAZY every single time his career was mentioned and the subject got changed or the conversation avoided. In the end, it all ties together – but that didn’t make it any less annoying every time it was this major mystery. However, the job thing DID bring me one of my favorite quotes from the book, “English. She literally couldn’t be more perfect. For one, an English teacher would never abuse the word “literally”…in a time when everyone seems to severely overuse and misuse that word, kudos to both authors for the snarky dig. Loved it! This was a fun, quick read from the dynamic duo of Laurelin McGee – I really look forward to reading more from these two lovely ladies!

Jaylene is a high school English teacher and a feminist. As a feminist, she rejects all erotic novels, believing them to be completely demeaning to women. Over the course of the book, with help from Noah and her friends, she's forced to re-evaluate that belief and what it truly means to be a feminist. It's a really nice story of self-discovery and personal growth, as well as a sweet romance between a strong woman and a man who adores that about her, but also prefers to take the lead in the bedroom. Discovering that Jaylene actually enjoyed being dominated (gently) in the bedroom sends her into a bit of an identity crisis. Ultimately, I think her friend Lucy gives her the reality check she needs. In response to Jaylene's assertion that this is what she fights against every day, Lucy lays it out beautifully for her: "You don't fight against this, Jay. You fight for women's rights and for equality in the world that we live in. Yu work to make sure that we are treated well and respected and not taken advantage of. These book have nothing to do with that. Honestly, as a feminist I think you should be giving this subject more attention. There are obviously many women who read these books...and just as many people who assume that makes them weak or stupid. Am I a weak woman? Am I stupid? Because I don't think so. And I love my smut books. And isn't it ridiculous I'm not allowed to read them without receiving some sort of judgey label? Isn't that what feminism is supposed to be about? Empowering women to be who we want to be and not what someone else thinks we should? Well, this is who I want to be." Honestly, I just love Lucy's little rant because it's so true. As someone who has a BA in women's studies and considers herself a feminist, I too love my smut books so long as the relationship between the characters is healthy. After this wake-up call, Jaylene is finally able to make things work with Noah.

Diese erzählt eine unterhaltsame Kurzgeschichte zu Jaylene, die man bereits im ersten Teil der Reihe kennenlernt.
Das Cover, die Gestaltung und die sichtbare Leidenschaft weckten meine Aufmerksamkeit.
Und obwohl mir „Mr. Undateable“ eher durchschnittlich gefiel, kam ich an diesen netten Zusatz nicht vorbei.
Der Schreibstil ist gewohnt flüssig und angenehm.
Wieder wird die Geschichte in der dritten Person erzählt, das Hauptaugenmerk liegt dabei auf Jaylene und Noah sowie deren Gedanken und Gefühle.
Der Einstieg in die Kurzgeschichte gelang mir gut.
Ich konnte mich einfach fallen lassen und Jaylenes und Noahs Geschichte genießen.
Beide Protagonisten haben mir ausgesprochen gut gefallen – sehr sympathisch und nett.

The cover, the book blurb, and the authors, are what attracted me to "Mistaken: A Novella" by Laurelin McGee. I liked the story, but I found the chemistry to be a little off between the two main characters. As a result, I was unable to form a real connection to them, which made the novella less exciting.
Jaylene Kim is a high school English teacher and a feminist. Her strong ideologies are a turn-off sometimes, both to herself and any potential love interest. When she meets her new neighbor, erotic book author Noah Harrison, there is an immediate, mutual attraction that is undeniable. Noah is a dominant and due to Jaylene's feminist lifestyle, she is unsure if she can give him control in the bedroom. Overall, this is a solid read. Noah is hot in the bedroom and quite erotic when he is calling the shots. Jaylene is a strong woman that should get out a little more. She has a tendency to limit her knowledge base to what is discussed in the various women's groups she belongs too, and as a result, she has a difficult time accepting other views. I liked how Jaylene's friends and Noah's lifestyle poked a hole in her feminist perspectives.

Das Cover ist für mich wieder ein Blickfang und man erkennt sehr gut, dass diese Novella zu "Mr. Undateable" gehört. Auch kennt man Jaylene schon aus ebendiesem Roman.
Er setzt nach ihrem Date mit Blake Donovan an und ist unglaublich sauer auf ihre Nachbarin Andrea und muss bei ihr erst einmal Dampf ablassen.
Wer hätte gedacht, dass ausgerechnet sie - eine absolute Feministin - einen Mann wie Noah trifft und dieser sie alles, in Frage stellen lässt?
Ich konnte Jay schon in "Mr. Undateable" gut leiden, da sie keinesfalls auf den Mund gefallen ist und alles ausspricht, was ihr durch den Kopf geht. Daher war es für mich echt witzig zu sehen, wie sie Noah Stück für Stück verfiel. Obwohl er ihr doch so manches zu verheimlichen scheint.
Da Noah so geheimnisvoll rüber kommt und seinen Beruf bloß nicht offenbaren möchte, solltet ihr ihn besser aus erster Hand kennenlernen. :)
Der Schreibstil des Autorinnenduos ist wieder einmal super locker und modern. Mit Noah und Jay haben sie zwei gegensätzliche Charaktere geschaffen, die wahrscheinlich genau deshalb richtig gut zusammenpassen und harmonieren. Ich hätte allerdings gern noch etwas mehr über Noahs Familie erfahren, aber das wäre für eine Novella wahrscheinlich zu lang geworden. ;)
