The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks: An Incredible Summary, and Analysis!
Rebecca Skloot, a specialist in the field of science and medicine, has authored The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks that has become one of her bestselling books on the market. The book was published in 2010 and it remained on The New York Bestseller list for a long period of time.
This book is totally about the subjects of science and medicine, in which, the author illustrates a young woman who is struggling hard against cervical cancer. The story shows how this young patient and all around her are affected by the disease, and how it helps scientific research to result from her disease. The book also brings in focus the social classes and racism perspective that make the book to become the bestselling on the market.

The author writes in the book that she got most of the information by studying the journal of the young woman’s daughter. This was not sufficient amount of research to produce the book. She, therefore, made more research on other contents so that she could find enough information to author the story in detail.

In addition to it, the writer put Oprah Winfrey into the story that came with the idea to turn the story into a Home Box Office movie. Overall, the book is an interesting read, which revolves around social and racism issues highlighting the plight of African-American people who suffered considerably in the United States.

Additional helpful information I found useful.

You're kidding, right?

Are you 12? This is the worst synopsis I have ever encountered. Terrible use of language, grammar, spelling, syntax. If I had to grade it An F would be generous.

I can't believe, in 2023, I had never heard of HeLa cells. What an amazing true story about how cell therapy has evolved over the last 60 years. It's sad, tragic and controversial. If you're interested in your privacy and the ethics behind using your cells to advance science without your consent, you should read this book.

Well written and researched documentary that revealed not only the scientific discoveries related to Henrietta but also the human side of the research and times in which she lived. It gave me a new appreciation for the advances not only in medicine but in ethics as well.

Use of cell information from cancer ridden black woman. Used to create studies and cures for many more who follow, but she wasn't asked, nor did she receive credit.
