Book #141 of 2024: My 50th "new-to-me" author for 2024.
I found the premise of this story to be very intriguing. I think it would have been improved by being a longer story. This was more of a novelette. It seemed a little simple and matter of fact and tied up too neatly, so to speak. There are several typos with Colleen misspelled several times as Collen.
The loss of an infant is something horrible to endure but I appreciated that the husband and wife took in the orphaned children. They all needed each other.
This book clearly illustrates how little we know of God's ways, but how perfect His plans are. Though Lily's infant dies, another baby desperately needs her. So do the baby's brother and sister. While Lily is mired in grief, she realizes the other children were abused. Lily does not want to love them, but then a distant relative comes to claim them. Lily's husband must risk everything to keep his family together.
This sweet story is a jewel and well worth the read.

For a short read, Fragile Blessings packs a lot in, leaving the reader to ponder the events of the story long after the last page. Baganz has the ability to transport readers to the past effortlessly, making you feel as though you’re in the cabin, on the farm, or traveling through the snow with Grant and Lily.
Told from the viewpoint of the main characters, readers will struggle through emotions, tense situations, tragedy, and heartache at both sad and newfound, precious and sweet events in the lives of these settlers. Using real communities and even little facts, like the round barns built there, Fragile Blessings will stroke your heartstrings. Life and love, even faith, is a fragile entity, but the ability to grow, accept that God is in control, and move on without forgetting and through the help of loved ones, is the surest blessing. Recommended for those who like a bite of an historical inspirational story with a lot to think about.
Leaving a wealthy family, Grant builds his home in western Wisconsin in the 1800s. He and his wife Lily have lost their first born. She is overcome with grief, and he doesn’t know how to help.
A neighboring farm is destroyed by fire leaving three small children orphaned, the youngest a tiny baby. When the need for a home for them is mentioned at church, Grant feels moved to volunteer and he does without asking Lily.
With their new Grandpapa reading the Christmas story, the three orphans just might mend Lily and Grant’s broken hearts.
Ms. Baganz has given us a wonderful story set in the early founding of our country bringing to the reader the warmth and glory of Christmas love.
My heart ached for Lily and Grant when they lost their child. Their journey to help other children and to reclaim their heart of a family restored my heart. Lily and Grant took me with them on their journey and kept my emotions on high alert. A fun and heart-warming read.
