A Betrayal of Time is a story about Vivienne and Ray, who loved each other even before they knew what love was. They belonged together. They knew it, and everyone who knew them knew it.
But time didn't. Or maybe time just didn't care.
It ripped them apart. Vivienne was left alone, without the one thing -- the one person -- she needed. Worse, she was the sole survivor of an unexplained cosmic event that folded time, transporting her 20 years into the future, when she was supposed to be long dead along with everyone else the event claimed. She didn't know anything about time, except that it was her great betrayer. Still, no one else knew how to reunite her with Ray or with 1959. It was up to her to decipher the quandary no one had been able to resolve before: to bring predictability to the time space continuum, the one thing that could not be more unpredictable.
Lucía Ashta believes in magic, laughter, and happily-ever-afters. She loves writing fierce heroines who wield witty comebacks as adeptly as their swords, and the warriors who slay their enemies alongside them. The camaraderie of found family, kooky magical creatures, and dragons—lots of dragons—also enrich Lucía’s many stories. She lives with her family in the forest nestled in the mountains, where she dreams up fantastical worlds and hopes to someday journey to them.
Vivienne and Ray have known each other all their lives and fell in love with each other before they were old enough to even know what love was. Now as high school is coming to a close the pair have decided to attend a party but when Vivienne separates from Ray to use the restroom their world is torn apart in an instant.
Twenty years after the massive event happened that claimed the lives of a lot of the other teens in attendance at the part Vivienne appears out of nowhere. Everyone she knew has aged even though she hasn't at all. Vivienne longs for Ray to also return but when he doesn't she dedicates her life to figuring out time travel to hopefully save Ray from whatever event had sucked her into the future.
A Betrayal of Time by Lucia Ashta is a novella length fantasy read that had a great story of lovers ripped apart but would do anything to be together again. The town thought it was an earthquake that had stolen the lives of their children until the day Vivienne appeared again. Once it was known that she wasn't the only one who's body hadn't been recovered she dedicates her life to figuring out what had happened.
While being a short read the author did a wonderful job weaving together the time travel along with letting the readers know enough about the characters to care about their outcome. This is definitely one I'd recommend to the fantasy/time travel lovers out there.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
IT'S NOT PUPPY LOVE!!! Talk about running a 90 yard touchdown in two seconds flat after an interception. That's exactly how exciting this page turning bombshell feels. I was captivated from the first page and held till the last word. Realism at its finest. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Lucia knows how to take a story that captures the heart and soul. Not once have I read anything that she touched that didn't appeal to me. She creates a multi-layered plot and spins it so intriguingly you can't help but become so immersed that you lose yourself in the wonder that Lucia pulls you into. The dynamics and presentation in layer upon layer that you peel back with each page you fall in love with the tale and the characters one page at a time. Lucia is becoming a force to be reckoned with and I can't wait to see what she delivers next. I already know it's gonna be magnificent. Lucia did an amazing job bringing this read together beautifully. Remarkable job Lucia, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.
Betrayal of time is a fabulous story!! Viv and Ray grew up together and planned on getting engaged and married after high school.
Ray Hated parties and dances but Viv’s parents only let her go because they trusted him. Once at the party she decided that she didn’t want to be there either he was right she didn’t like parties or dances.
However, Before they left she wanted to go to the bathroom. she put her hand on the door and got a funny feeling looked over into him sick up the feeling and one inside.
Ray had the same funny feeling and went to go to open the bathroom door and the house sunk into the ground.
20 years later a granite plaque marks the spot where the house used to be. None of the kids survived. Or at least no one thought they did.
This is a fantastic book but I don’t want to give it away you must get it and read it!
This author had a character that you immediately fell in love with. You entered her mind and understood her actions for the length of the story. I anticipated her actions from, early in the tale and started to be as excited as she was when it became clear where she was headed. I have been a fan of,time travel for most of my life and I can honesty state this is one of the most unique treatments I have ever read . Enjoy your trip. I will not tell you any more for fear of spoiling your pleasure!
Just a few years late, but I finally read one of the first books by the best author of the world. I don't know how it escaped me before, must be connected to the time travelling it is about.
I really liked this sciency romance. The only reason I don't give five stars is that the writing style is not as outstanding as I'm used to by now, so this book is a bit pale in comparison to Mrs. Ashtas later works.
I don't usually like short stories as I like to live with the characters and storyline for a week. However, this is a neatly constructed tale, rounded up within a couple of hundred pages. If you like time travel, romance, and you want a quick read, you may enjoy this. I particularly like the fact that they ending ties things up neatly.
I love me a good time-travel love story. Maybe my favorite subgenre of Romance. However, this book pushed me past all the realms of probability, despite all the made-up science that is thrown into magic waving the invention of a time machine.
Actually, what really pushed me past the WTF of the plot was the whole premise that two people are so made for one another, that said time-traveler will dedicate their entire life to discovering a way back to the past so they could be reunited with that “one true love.” Seriously? About halfway through the book, the time traveler’s parents beg them to just get on with their life, and I was, “yes please do!” Spoiler: they didn’t.
Most frustrating was the denouement of the story just fell flat, flat, flat. To the point that I really didn’t care if there was a HEA for the characters. Honestly, I was kind of hoping she’d up with the other guy.
A Betrayal of Time by Lucia Ashta --I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was difficult to put down. It's not the type of book I normally read, but it caught my attention right from the beginning. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good story to read.
This story left me in awe. With a huge pile of tissues. And a headache over the possible realities of time travel. The love of a young woman for her young man. The grief, the hope. All of it is worthy of 10 stars!
I really liked reading Vivienne's story. You will feel so many emotions. I got sucked right in as I always do for Lucia Ashta's books. I couldn't put it down until I finished it!
A thrilling, well paced story with great characters. I really enjoyed this story of heartbreak and loss, but there was always the hope of a second chance in there that just kept me reading non-stop!
This was a great story! The power of love is amazing! Vivian and Ray loved each other from the very beginning. In 1959, seniors in high school, they go to a party. There is an earth quake and no one survives, until 20 years later, when Vivian awakes in the field where the earthquake had taken place. Vivian spends the next 20 years trying to find a way back to Ray. Does she succeed? Will she ever see Ray again? Will the life they had planned together ever come to be? You really need to read this to find the answers to these questions! I read it in just a couple of hours.
This story is about time travel but the real story is about a romance, a love so strong, that time can not keep the couple apart.
If you are looking for lots of action, this is not your story. If you want scientific discussions of time travel, this is not your story either. The science discussions are kept very simple so that "everyone" can understand them. If you are looking for a story about love that never gives up no matter how great the odds, then "A Betrayal of Time" is for you.
Sex - There is a detailed sex scene which prevents classifying this story as clean. The fact that sex occurred is important to the story but I wish it had been described with less detail or in a different way to be consistent with the rest of the story. There was nothing else in the story that made me feel uncomfortable/dirty (in fact the rest had a very sweet feel to it) except this sex scene. Of course this might have been the author's intent but I still wish the scene had been left out. Language - none Violence - none Religion - none
