This was a nice quiet read. The heroine is a widow in her 20s with two young daughter's who has moved to Almost after her husband's death left them broke. The heroine is struggling and living on her husband's inherited run-down ranch and getting threats from two fellows who want her to vacate. The town is so small that they have no law enforcement and the heroine doesn't know who to turn to. Then by chance when her daughter's go missing she comes across the hero camping and her daughter's tell him their plight and he offers to help; an offers she takes him up on after another scare. First off, yeah the premise is a little out there the heroine takes the hero's help without knowing a thing about him but this is a romance book so everything flies. The heroine used to be a social worker so recognises that either the hero is an ex-con or law enforcement. She is actually right on both counts. The book tries to make it appear that the hero has a criminal past but drops enough hints he isn't. We later learn who he is: he is FBI who was undercover in prison (with occasional vacations) to solve crimes. The book also name drops the heroine from Extreme Justice and made me interested to check out hero's friend's book Code Name Daddy as well. We learn that h's marriage was a marriage of unequals with her husband never asserting himself or being good with the important things in life; but I did like how she didn't blame him.
I liked the relationship between the h/H but did understand why she was so hurt that he didn't tell her who he was until things became dangerous. She had opened her homes, her heart to him and she deserved his trust which the hero didn't show. The suspense involves drug runners. Next is the widowed sister-in-law's book who has triplets.
