Safe

Why do we always want what we can never have? I thought Ramon was just another bad boy soldier with a checkered past. I thought I was done with guys like that. Guess I was wrong on both counts.
After her last boyfriend, Lena’s sworn off men for a little while. She also swore off going outside, talking to people, or doing much of anything besides watching reruns and sitting by her family's pool. It's not much of a life, but at least it's safe.

At least, that's what she though. Her stepfather insists on getting her a bodyguard. She can't imagine why she needs protection, but it's nice to have someone to talk to, and he's easy on the eyes, so she's not complaining.

My objectives were simple. Keep Lena safe, keep out of her pants, and bail if things got too crazy. Now it looks like I'll have to settle for one out of three.
After scraping rock bottom, Ramon thought he'd finally found a way out of the hole he'd dug himself. It was an easy job. Babysit a spoiled girl who's greatest dangers were sunburn and thumb cramps. He never expected to get locked up, beaten, tortured, or dragged into a drug war that made Afghanistan look like Aruba. Then again, he didn't expect to fall in love either.

None of this was in Ramon's job description. But he made a promise, and nobody is going to stop him from keeping it.

I used to think I could keep danger at a distance by hiding behind high walls. But the real threat came from inside my own house. It was there all along. That's how I learned the most important lesson of my life: "Safe" isn't the absence of danger, it's knowing that you can do whatever it takes to beat it.

My English teacher would have been appalled !

Try spell check and grammar check. It's hard to read when you are constantly trying to figure out what it is supposed to say.
