Rate this book
The fourth chapter book in the popular Monster High Diaries series, featuring Clawdeen Wolf!

Dear Diary,

Everyone knows that I am a no-nonsense werewolf--I never back down from a challenge, and I run right over any obstacle that get in my way! But lately I'm having a hard time dealing with my pack...there are SO MANY of them, and they are always in my hear. I have a creeperific fashion show coming up, and the fam is causing so much drama that I've barely had time to work on my designs. I feel like I'm being pulled in so many different directions. What's a ghoul to do?

Before going into the actual review, I want to point out some things about Monster High in general.
The series is not only entertaining but also teaches good things and makes them good for young readers:

1. There is never any bad language.

2. There is no tolerance for hatred or prejudice.

3. There is no sex. (There is some very basic romance, though.)

4. There is always some kind of positive moral in each book.

In this book, it's summer vacation and Clawdeen is going to hold a fashion show to raise money for cheerleader outfits and much-needed sports equipment. She also hopes to show her ability in making really fabulous clothing.

The problem she runs into is that her family is going to host a major family gathering of there pack (they are werewolves, by the way) and this means lots of people and very little time for her to work on her projects for the show.

The needs of the pack is considered to come before everything else. Worse yet one of the younger members really messes up all the work that Clawdeen has done so far.

Clawdeen is very upset but someone suggests to her that she doesn't have to do every single thing herself. There are lots of family there so why not ask them?

Morals: The family is very important and should come first in people's thoughts. Also, if you are having some kinds of personal problems than simply ask someone for help. Don't hold everything inside and let it fester.

Which blends into my answer to the age-old question of Why are we here?

To help others.

This one was very repetitive. It was the same sentence just about every paragraph. I am not the intended audience for these books but usually enjoy children's books like these and the covers really call to me, but this one could probably be a pass. I can't even figure out what message thy were trying to convey? Family first? Family first but friends are important? It's ok to ask for help? I'm going to go for the last one being the message of the book.

This is the pinnacle of human achievement in literature. There is nothing left to be done.

It's a super cute story that's accurate to the characters. I definitely enjoyed reading for the nostalgia factor and making my inner child happy

Clawdeen Wolf And The Freaky Fabulous Fashion Show
PLOT: Clawdeen Wolf is throwing a fashion show with clothes designed by her and some of her other ghoul friends, but during the same time the show is supposed to happen her pack shows up. This causes her stress and frustration when she's moved out of her room, the deadline is close, and her cousins destroy (unintentionally) the progress she has made with her designs. But Clawdeen, in the end, finds a way to make her situation work for her and the fashion show is a success.

MY THOUGHTS: It's strange that no mention at all in this was made about Clawdeen's time in Scaris or the flash mob fashion show she threw at the beginning of the movie. I just thought it would have been a nice throwback and tie into the movie. So I don't have the biggest family BUT I what I do get is that sometimes even though you may love your family it might be hard to take them in large doses. And sometimes you do wish that you could be doing something else that might mean just as much to you. But out of a sense of obligation, you have to put family and big events first. Because I'm an introvert I know how tough this can be and I had to learn to give myself a limit on big family events. I think it just matters if you give them *some* time so they see you put in an effort. In this, I think Clawdeen's parents were just a little unreasonable because she didn't *need* to be with her family 24/7. And the scene when she was with them they were all watching movies or doing whatever else. Which is something I've never understand when big events happen in my own family such as sports events and I'm pressured to attend even though I could care less about sports. If they're all watching the game and we aren't communicating then do you *really* need me there? And then it's also frustrating when you're younger cousins come in your room and mess stuff up. Ironically I collect Monster High dolls and I have a younger cousin and when she left they would look wretched. All their clothes and accessories would be all over the room. I had this big beautifully detailed Disney snow globes. The same cousin and her brother broke a piece of Beast's hand (still broken today) and my cousin (their father) said NOTHING! So I get that too. Clawdeen didn't learn what I learned late. When your family comes by and you have younger cousin's PUT YOUR STUFF UP. She should have (knowing they were coming) put her finished clothes at one of her friend's house. The parents might have said the friends couldn't come, but she could have easily just called one, snuck outside, give her the dresses, and told her to keep them. But then I guess since she couldn't leave she couldn’t have gone to their houses to retrieve them or work on them. I did like how the end though was that no matter how frustrating they can be when push comes to shove your family *should* have your back. And I say *should* because they don't always but it was good to see that the Wolfpack does.

RATING: 6 I liked the message. But I would have liked to see as an added bonus some artwork at the end of the designs she mentioned.

Clawdeen And The Freaky Fabulous Fashion Show review.

My goodness, I forgot to review the rest of these!

Anyway, I liked the book. I loved reading about Clawdeen.

Like the other books before it, this takes place after Frights Camera Action (Brownie points)

The Wolf Family having a reunion which puts a lot of pressure on Clawdeen who's trying to balance family with her friends and hobbies. She admits in an entry early on that her family doesn't quite understand her commitment to her hobby & her friends and boy, oh boy did I feel that.

I literally have zero complaints about this book.

I do, however, wish these were longer. The story itself is 110 pages long. The rest of the pages are blank journal pages you can write in and a preview of Draculaura's diary but I understand why these are so short so it's okay.

Overall, I loved reading about Clawdeen and her life!

This one was a little slow, but I really liked the maturity and nuance in it. We see Clawdeen’s tension and struggles with her family, and them forcing her to prioritize family over friends.

Despite her issues with them, Clawdeen never goes “I hate my family”. It was always a very mature “I love them, but they do annoy me a lot.”

In the end, Clawdeen learns that she needs to ask for help. Sometimes people are willing to help, but they either don’t realize you need it or don’t think you want it. You can’t expect people to read your mind.

I’m reading this as a childless adult, but I think this book had a lot of good themes and relatability that would benefit a lot of kids. And as an adult reader, it was a cute and surprisingly mature little book going a little more into Clawdeen’s character and home life.

My 3yo really wanted to check this out from the library, and I love Monster High, so I did. And of course, I read it and loved it. Super fun.
