Exciting news! The second limited edition hardcover book in the Daring Do Boxed Set series, now sold separately!
Nothing lasts forever...or does it?
Daring Do is excited to learn of the Eternal Flower--a legendary enchanted bloom believed to grant immortality to the creature who drinks its sweet nectar. It is a rousing notion, but it has never actually been found!
Curious about the possibility of such a plant existing, Daring Do visits the Equestrian Botanical Society, where she quickly learns that the roots of the legend reach deeper than she ever dreamed.
And Daring Do isn't the only one digging.
She sets out on her own quest across land and sea, racing against time to find the flower before the nectar touches the lips of another pony--or a monster who might have more sinister plans for it than she does. Will Daring Do follow the clues and find the secret to eternal life?
Gillian M. Berrow (G.M. Berrow) is a writer and television industry professional living in Brooklyn, New York. When she was little, she aspired to become either a princess or a magical pony. Things seem to be right on schedule.
I didn’t really like this book that much, it’s probably not a great book for me, i ALMOST feel like it doesn’t have a plot AT ALL, but that’s just my opinion, ‼️Disclaimer‼️ if you love this book, it’s ok, it just means everyone has different opinions, and that’s okay,
Fun adventure book (in part apparently inspired by that Indiana Jones movie with the Holy Grail, which shouldn't be TOO surprising, given that Daring Do is basically Indiana Jones as a pegasus pony) with zero padding between the action cues. This of course leaves minimal room for proper character development and other non-action stuff, but this is a typical "bedtime story" book where each chapter has minimal ramp-up time before something exciting happens, and I can accept it as that.
I enjoyed this book as much as the first. Daring Do was a little more involved in the plot from the beginning, and I loved getting to know her a little better. It was fun seeing her in new situations, and these books do a great job at expanding the land of Equestria while also referencing bits from the show.
I do have the same complaint with this book that I did with the Marapore, in that the climax was a little weak. It was weak in a different way. In the first book, Daring Do acted and that was a large part of what saved the day. In this book, the climactic moment felt more like chance.
In fact, there were several things in this book that felt like chance, like the author got stuck at parts and then decided to just make stuff up to resolve the conflict. It does work, because we know so little about Daring Do, but I wish there was a little more foreshadowing at times.
Also, there was that weird POV shift going on again. I can’t recall the page, but there was one page where the POV shifted for no reason. It was handled a little bit better in this book, but it still shouldn’t have been there.
I don’t have as much to say about this book as I did about Marapore, even though I think I like this book just a little bit better. It was a fun read, and my complaints are mostly nitpicks—the book would have been stronger if those things hadn’t been an issue, but it doesn’t ruin my enjoyment of reading about Daring Do. I can’t wait to start the last book of the trilogy.
many other reviews quote this book as a "great read". however, that is an understatement. Daring Do and the Eternal Flower is a story of mystery and suspense. plot twist, puzzles, elaborate and cunning planning combined with intelligent and wisdom. Truly something to reread and remind ourselves that even though none of us are perfect, a life of immortality is a life without rest.
This was a pretty good book. I liked the characters and their quirks. This is like a younger and shorter version of Indiana Jones. With some imagination thrown in. Colorful and interesting it keeps you turning pages. For us elders it's a quick read. I enjoyed it and wouldn't mind reading more in the series. Fun for all ages. :) Enjoy!
Absolutely love this series! I wish that there were several more, rather than only two more, because this is some excellent young reader adventure fun! I can't imagine that I won't be re-reading these books for years to come.
My daughters wanted this book because they love MLP. I was very reluctant to get it but we found it at a thrift store so it was cheap and with the two other books in the set. I was surprised that I enjoyed the book as much as they did. Good adventure story for the young ones!
"It's a funny thing, Daring." Gallant looked down at her through his glasses, which meant he was being serious. "Sometimes you spend a lifetime chasing something, then when you get it, you find out it was really the chase you loved all the while."
This is another fun action-adventure in the vein of Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail (but more kid-friendly).
The previous book, "The Forbidden City", leads right into it and it also touches on the subject of immortality and the implications of what it would mean for someone to live forever.
Notes:
I would have been really epic if they actually completed the series, having Daring go on all these quests and stuff, and finally meeting Comet at the end.
Daring Do takes us on another great adventure. I enjoy how this book introduces new characters from Equestria and brings back one old one. The descriptions given in the book helps to paint a vivid picture of the world. A great read for any fan of MLP.
