Having a new/different character take up the mantle or replace an original character is one of my pet peeves in comic books. It's right up there with EVENT mania.
Worse? When they stick a female into a popular male's role, and expect me to get excited because I have a vagina.
Fuck you and stop pandering, please.
However, this one had two things going for it that pushed me into taking the plunge.
First, I love Laura/X-23. She's one of my favorite characters, and I'd read just about anything with her in it, no matter how stupid the premise.
Second, Tom Taylor wrote this, and I'd read a book on inchworm assholes if he were the author.
So the gist is that Laura's clones (the clone has clones, baby!) go on a rampage, and if she doesn't stop them, the corporation that created them will. <--DEATH!
Unfortunately, her clones are sorta sassy and don't want to do things the peaceful way.
Due to some spoilery stuff, she ends up seeking help from Doctor Strange, and (bonus!) gets to whack the shit out of an inter dimensional monster with Stephen's axe!
Not finding the help she needs, the group ends up at Wasp's...lair? Lab? Home?
Whatever. Team-up with Wasp!
Some of the plot may seem regurgitated to pickier readers, but I thought it was a fun volume...considering I loathe the idea of these spin-off things.
In the end, X-23 & Taylor were better than I hoped. If you (like me) were having a hard time imagining anyone else taking up Wolverine's mantle, give this a shot. It's not as shitty as you'd imagine.

I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did. I've always quite liked Laura but wouldn't have picked her out as a particular favourite before now. Over the course of this book, however, I have totally fallen in love with her and she now stands proudly alongside Sam Alexander, Miles Morales and Kamala Khan as my 'new school' homies. (I'm old and embarrassing. Deal with it.)
While there was nothing groundbreaking in this book, reading it gave me the same feeling I used to when I read superhero comics as a kid. It also made me realise how much I missed that feeling. It's the same feeling I get when I watch an Indiana Jones movie.
I was sad to hear David Lopez won't be illustrating Laura's adventures after this volume, as I really liked his work. I'm hoping the new artist lives up to the standard Lopez set and that Tom Taylor continues to write this title for a long time.

This is a solid initial effort, with Laura trying to help a pack of Laura clones figure out why they were made and how to get vengeance on their creators, who have cruelly mistreated them (I know, I know—the Marvel U needs more clone stories about as much as a vegan needs a pair of meat shoes, but just go with it).
Is it the greatest Wolverine story ever told? By no means. Is it the worst? Nope. Does calling Laura Wolverine instead of X-23 make her an inherently more interesting character? Well, yeah, because X-23 sounds like a diarrhea remedy. Otherwise, though…no, it doesn’t. Not in the slightest. So there’s that.
Still, worth a read.

Yet another character wiped out by Marvel's diversity train. How about you just create some new characters that aren't white men, instead of just bumping all the old ones off, Marvel. But in this case, the story was actually good. Tom Taylor is great at characterization and he continues that trait here. X-23 decides to take on the Wolverine mantle. Laura discovers Alchemax has created clones of her. They have escaped and are taking it out on Alchemax before they die. I don't see how anyone could think of another sentient being as their property even if they were created in a lab, but it's probably something humans will probably have to deal with in our lifetime. I love that even though this is a pretty dark story, Taylor still finds time for humor and quirky characters. David Lopez's art is always solid. I hope he sticks around for more than just this story arc.

Meet Laura Kinney, the All-New Wolverine!
Sweet! I have no clue what the X-Men are up to these days (didn’t even know the old Wolverine was dead, RIP…), but my first encounter with X-23 aka Laura Kinney aka the All-New Wolverine has been a pleasant surprise.
Centered on corporate clones trying to take down their evil masters, the plot is rather heavy on action and a bit on the generic side. It’s also more relevant today than ever before, though, looking at our own corporate masters' increasingly menacing reign of evil.
The pacing is crisp, the dialogue often funny: "What? Who needs a doorway to horrors in their living room? You couldn't hang a picture or something?" And last but not least, the story features some of the most winning and just plain awesome clones I have ever met - what's not to like?
I’d recommended All-New Wolverine: The Four Sisters to anyone looking for old-school superhero action with a heart (cloned or not), a sense of humor, and a great, convincing, strong, likable, slightly identity-confused female protagonist!

Wolverine’s currently “dead” as a piece of modern art and apparently someone in the Marvel universe needs there to be a Wolverine so who better to step into the iconic yellow outfit than his female clone/daughter Laura Kinney aka X-23? But that’s the thing with clones - you make one, you can make more, and Laura discovers the shady Alchemax group has been doing just that with her DNA. Laura’s got some sisters and of course some villains want them dead - time to snikt, Wolverines!
The latest diversity change to the Marvel lineup isn’t bad but it’s not that great either. Writer Tom Taylor keeps up a steady stream of fairly entertaining action throughout from Laura sky-diving onto a drone over Paris to leaping between tanks during a car chase to fighting a squad of soldiers with her clone sisters. There’s also an amusing team-up with Doctor Strange and a molecular adventure in an Ant-Man suit with Janet van Dyne/The Wasp.
But it’s still generic surface-level superhero stuff that’s pretty unmemorable particularly the “shady government agency conducting dangerous experiments” angle that’s been done to death in Wolverine comics. It seems that whether Wolverine’s a guy or a gal this shit’s gonna keep happening to whoever’s assuming the mantle!
The characters in general are similarly quite shallowly written. Laura and her two sisters are archetypical tough girls while everyone else is whatever their role is - mad scientist, macho military man, etc. Gabby is the only standout as the cute little sister who has some great chemistry with Laura, like Robin to her Batman. Also, like in his DC series Injustice: Gods Among Us, Tom Taylor throws in the occasional comedy curveball that works for being unexpectedly silly - the Angel patting Laura on the head scene made me laugh.
Despite a confusing ending (unless you recognise that character), All-New Wolverine is a decent read with some solid art from David Lopez. It’s not up there with female Thor or Ms Marvel but, considering how crappy most Wolverine solo books are, female Wolverine more than holds her own and lives up to the name. Logan would be proud and Wolverine fans might find themselves unexpectedly falling for Laura’s charms - worth a read!

Laura Kinney X-23 was cloned from Wolverine in order to make the perfect army of killers. With Logan's help she escaped that life. After Logan's death, Laura has decided to take on his mantle as Wolverine.
Something devious is happening now. Laura learns that a science team has cloned her in hopes to fulfill the dream of an invincible army.
The sisters, as they are referred to, have escaped a facility and the head of the facility wants them back.
Four Sisters was a good but unspectacular first arc of The All-New Wolverine. I thought the first issue was outstanding, but I quickly found myself bogged down by the cloning story. It seemed insane that the science team that created clones from Laura's DNA would be dumb enough to involve her, but they did.
The character interactions are absolutely what helped me hold on to hope when the cloning story dragged. The sisters themselves were an odd bunch as they each developed varying personalities although they were raised in the same fashion.
Their interactions were interesting although I wasn't overly interested in them as characters. The next major interaction was between Angel and Laura. Their continuing relationship is intriguing to witness.
Angel doesn't want Laura to get hurt, but she is recklessly using her healing power to it's fullest.
The best relationship may have been Laura and her clone Gabby. Despite being trained to kill, Gabby has retained her innocence and she speaks to Laura like she's her pesky little sister.
In the end I'd say I love Laura Kinney and she is a remarkable Wolverine. I didn't love the story, but I imagine her arcs will be exciting in the future.

After watching "Logan," I quickly went in search of all I could find on X-23, Wolverine's . This is the first that came from the library, so I jumped in head first to story I had no idea existed until the movie.
This is one well written book. Clever and witty, I actually laughed out loud at one point. And plenty of pathos, as any good graphic novel will have. Plenty of crossover cameos and in jokes, too.
Engaging characters and a truly fresh spin on the Wolverine mythos. More, more!

I am torn in that I miss Logan as Wolverine, but at the same time, I love X-23, or Lara Kinney. this was a great introduction to her taking up the mantle of Wolverine. This story was practically non-stop action, and the storyline was well-written with some good surprises. The cameos of others from the Marvel Universe fit the story instead of it being like some kind of advertisement to read other Marvel titles.
X-23 kicks some serious butt, she's enormously lethal, but she respects life. She doesn't kill unnecessarily, and flashbacks show her with her father and why her ethos is what it is (including her extremely tragic backstory). I'm glad that this story shows X-23 as a character who has to deal with that tightrope of knowing when to kill or not.
The plot is highly related to X-23's origins and its excellent pathos integral to the plot. I would recommend this book to fans of X-23 aka Lara Kinney, or fans of Wolverine. If you watched the movie "Logan", this sort of ties into the storyline pretty smoothly.

Marvel continues on the strong path with their 21st-century revamping of their signature characters - see also Miles Morales as Spider-Man, Amadeus Cho as the Hulk, etc. - with Laura Kinney as Wolverine. She acquits herself quite nicely -- along with her three 'sisters' (born out of the same experiment, they have similar abilities but greater tendencies toward violence) and special assistance by Wasp -- in a revenge story that is top-heavy on the action Action ACTION! I also think the writers / illustrators were paid by the amount of onomatopoeias used - there are more booms, blams, woooops, screeeees, and (of course) snikts than you can shake a retractable claw at in this volume!

Being a huge Wolverine fan I was expecting to hate this graphic novel. I know how Marvel is trying to empower feminism by blurting out important female characters and Wolverine X-23 is just one of them. X-23 can never replace Logan, but she's not a bad character at all. Needs a ton of development, but this is the first graphic novel I've read about her so there is room for improvement.
This graphic novel focuses on the four sisters who are clones of Wolverine. They escaped the lab and are still escaping the people who created them. The plot of this first volume isn't as interesting as I expected, but I deemed it as an introductory volume for the series. I'm really hoping that things would improve along the way.
The artwork is commendable. I have a few Marvel series that I hate because of the artwork, but thankfully this one didn't disappoint.

I hated a lot "Death of Wolverine" storyline, "Wolverines" sucked much more, so what a surprise reading this all new Wolverine first arc as individual issues.
I really enjoyed the ride. Laura is just a perfect badass Wolverine and I really love all of her "sisters".
Can't wait for reading more about them.

I enjoyed the crap out of this. I've become very fond of Laura, and I'm very happy to see her taking up the Wolverine mantle. Yes, the storyline is yet another variation of the human experiments angle, but it really doesn't surprise me to see one more secret human experiment running in Marvel's universe. And it works as a story for Laura. Some good guest stars. Angel is a given, since he's dating Laura, and they're weirdly cute together. The Doctor Strange guest bit is really good, and Wasp actually shows up. I can't remember the last time I saw her in a book. Granted, I didn't read half of the Avengers books pre-Secret Wars, so maybe she was hanging out there. In any event, I liked seeing her interact with Laura. I don't know if there will always be so many guests, but it worked for this volume.

That takes them to a team up with Dr Strange and then wasp and facing off against Capt Mooney and Alchemax so will they survive? Who will win and what other secrets will be revealed?
Its a pretty fun read and I remember this being one of the first comics I ever read and it was a blast to read and the premise while simple doesn't take itself seriously and Taylor just has a blast showing off Laura and her cool moments and giving her new challenges and teaming up and I love the way he incorporates Logan here and trying to evolve Laura and the legacy aspect of it is endearing! <3

I'd put it between a 3.5 and a 3. It has some elements I very much enjoyed, some cliche moments, and some dull moments.
SO the Death of Wolverine is a big old pile of dog shit. One of the worst stories I ever read. Had no interest in reading anything past it. But then I saw my dude Tom Taylor write it, and I had to least try it out.
I'm glad I did.
So X-23 is now the new Wolverine. She's out there doing what she does back, slashing bitches who need some cutting, except she doesn't go too berserker like her father Logan. Now we have 3 sisters who look just like her. Clones! Yaya.
Okay so the good is the dialog between Wolverine and the 3 sisters. They all feel real, well developed, and interesting. I also loved the different slight designs yet still making them all look pretty similar. Also, the cameo of Dr. Strange and Wasp was great.

SO the Death of Wolverine is a big old pile of dog shit. One of the worst stories I ever read. Had no interest in reading anything past it. But then I saw my dude Tom Taylor write it, and I had to least try it out.
I'm glad I did.
So X-23 is now the new Wolverine. She's out there doing what she does back, slashing bitches who need some cutting, except she doesn't go too berserker like her father Logan. Now we have 3 sisters who look just like her. Clones! Yaya.
Okay so the good is the dialog between Wolverine and the 3 sisters. They all feel real, well developed, and interesting. I also loved the different slight designs yet still making them all look pretty similar. Also, the cameo of Dr. Strange and Wasp was great.

Tom Taylor has created an entire new direction for Wolverine and it was amazing. Great action, plotting was spot on. His characterisation wad probably his strongest skill. Colours and artwork were great. Ends on a little cliffhanger begging for more.

I read the comic books All New Wolverine #1-18 covering the first three volumes, of which this is one. The mature feel of this character has now been solidly removed leaving the book with a much younger feel and audience(?). The clone Gabby, is a wonderful addition to the X-universe :-) This volume 6 out of 12.

I have to first say I like X-23 and I like that she has taken over the mantle of wolverine. granted Old-man logan is lurking but it's a fun re-boot even if she has already been around for a while. The story in the book is pretty good although wolverine clones is definitely not new. I like the cameos with Taskmaster, Doctor strange, and the wasp. The art is standard new marvel nothing cutting edge but it is crisp and colorful.

Ah, so this is where the backstory of all the stuff in X-23, Vol. 1: Family Album comes from. As with all of Taylor’s stuff this is solid, with a story that flows effortlessly from one moment to the next. There were a couple dry spots, though, which is why I liked it rather than loved it.
That said, I enjoyed the cameos by Dr. Strange and the Wasp. In a universe where hundreds of superheroes are running around, it makes sense that they cross paths from time to time. The art is okay, somewhere between Kirby and a Buscema, giving everyone a faint New Gods resemblance.

Laura Kinney is the has taken over the Wolverine mantle, and in true Marvel fashion what could have been nothing more than a marketing ploy turns out to be a pretty solid book. In this first arc, the former X-23 has to protect three clones of herself and help them escape from (and avenge) the evil corporation that made them into killing machines in the first place.
This is a loud one, even by Marvel standards, and as a result plotting pushed aside in favor of high-octane action. Not that it's incoherent or full of holes or anything: it's just a little too easy. Secrets are too quickly revealed, hidden things too conveniently found. Going to continue with this one to see where it goes.

I'm an old-time Wolverine fan. From when he first appeared and joined the X-men. Loved him back then. Then came the over-exposure. The endless over-exposure. Now we have his "daughter" of sorts. A clone. I didn't want to buy this book. The rating at Comic Book Round Up decided it for me.
I should have known better: It's a David Lopez.
Duh.
Of course I'm going to love it. And I do. It looks marvelous. He really needs to draw Dr. Strange. It's a well paced story, well told. Highly recommended.

I'm liking the new Wolverine a lot. She's tough, but she has a lot of compassion as well. In this story, she literally has to fight herself in the form of four clones of herself. Luckily, the clones don't have her mutant powers. There are a lot of tough decisions that she has to make that are interesting to see as they develop. I like the art as well. Particularly, the artist does a good job of drawing the new Wolverine's face. I'll be reading upcoming volumes.

This was my first time reading about Laura/X-23/non-Logan-Wolverine. I've got a lot of catching up to do on who's who and what's what in the modern Marvel universe. Reading from a "blind" standpoint, this was good. Plenty of backstory and enough character history that I didn't feel lost. I'm still not sold on Squirrel Girl though.

I'm a huge "X-23" fan, so I was extremely nervous about this series. Laura taking over the Wolverine title is very exciting and a natural path for her character, but I'm skeptical when someone is writing her who isn't either Craig Kyle or Chris Yost. That said, there is no need for Laura fans to worry because Tom Taylor writes her beautifully.
Laura has always had a certain way of speaking, a way that shows just how logical and socially awkward she is. But she's been trying to embrace society for years now; it would only make sense that her way of speaking has evolved. Tom Taylor is the first writer to maintain Laura's voice while incorporating elements of modern speaking. Other writers have tried and failed, and those series can be ignored. This one should definitely not be.
The art here is also fantastic; one of my favorite art styles I've seen recently. It meshes very well with the plot, which is also top notch. Laura may be Wolverine now, but her X-23 past is what drives this story forward. It was very interesting seeing new and old pieces of Laura's history.
This volume is easily 5/5 stars! It's the best story featuring Laura that's been published in years, since her X-Force run ended in 2010. For fans looking for a strong female lead in comics, I highly suggest picking up this title and the previous ones featuring Laura co-written by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost (X-23: Innocence Lost, X-23: Target X, New X-Men, and X-Force).

I like the character well enough, but the book falls a little short. It's starts out very exciting as Laura tries to figure out the secret behind the four sisters. But after awhile the plot just jumps around too much. And they bring in different characters for tiny cameos, including The Wasp as they do a hack plot line involving shrinking and entering someones bloodstream to fight robots, who are making the character sick. As I said I like the character but sometimes wish she had the depth of the original Wolverine. Where Logan constantly fought the blood lust of an animal and tried to make the right decision, it often seems Laura just walks into every situation and tells everyone to stop fighting. And to be honest the scene where Laura is either remembering or imagining talking to Logan, and he tells her he's glad she isn't the killer he was, is my favorite part of the entire book. I'm still excited to see where it's going.

I really enjoyed this compilation, probably one of the best Wolverine comics I've read in years truth be told...and when they introduced the clone-based plotline I couldn't help but have a fever dream of Orphan Black's amazing Tatiana Maslany as Laura and her Sisters in a film or series someday!

Probably 3.5-4 stars if I could stop being such a Laura stan and having so many feelings all over this, but I can't and I'm not even sorry about it, tbh.

“Is she gonna be just like Logan?”
This is the underlying potential regret of gender-flipping Wolverine in the current era. If the creative team aren’t careful it’ll just be a patently transparent “woke” conceit, just taking the cis white male out of the costume to bring in readers who aren’t represented by the establishment.
And that’s still be a good thing. Hell, the number of pages of funny books devoted to white dudes is embarrassing by this point innit? Like, in the next 30 years of my life I could hope to catch up on all that, if I was so fragile as to be terrified/offended to read about heroes that don’t represent me. (Though frankly it’s a bit hard to find many representations of lazy, grey-haired, tattoos-and-earrings white males in comics. Like, maybe there’s one?)
So am I entertained with Laura as the new Wolvie? Hell yes.
Lotsa kinetic action scenes? Check.
Smart, sassy, sarcastic hero? Check.
Nice personal story for Laura to shine in? Check and check.
Clean, bright art with smart layouts? Checkcheck.
Easy breezy reading? Fuck yes check.
Ready for more? Damn right I am.

Sick series!
This is a perfect follow up to earlier X-23 stuff. It draws from plot threads originating in the Kyle/Yost era, related to Laura’s origins. Although Logan is dead, he weighs heavily on the story, especially regarding Laura’s motives and introspections.
I liked the art, but it could have been a little more visceral for such an emotional hero.
X-23 has always been among my favorite Marvel characters, and this is definitely on the better side for her. I think it improves upon the Liu run, but doesn’t quite reach the Kyle/Yost run in terms of resonance. Still, very exciting and powerful.
