As a king’s life hangs in the balance, alliances are made then broken. Only trickery can help Cara protect those she cares about, but when her enemies show their true face, she realises the every distraction feeds Chaos. Cara’s not the only one searching for a legendary treasure, not the only one reaching for power. The journey’s not over, but at the end of every path lies Sacrifice.
The ending was mad disappointing. That was way to easy and Brighid's explanation on what must happen was just plain stupid. At least they finally had sex..lol
No real closure at all, everything seen in the mirror came true except for her part. What made this 'human' so damn special with her diluted fae blood.
Where is this male heir that was seen for Brendan? It was like the author didn't know how to finish it so just threw in a bunch of crap together.
Why doesn't her daughter have the DNA of both Kings considering they were sharing a body at the time? Where the heck did Lily's mother go? Not even a body found?
No real explanation as to why those five crossed the ocean. What are they? What happened to the old lady with the trees? What happened to Brendon's big promise of going and getting his people back? No explanation for the blight disappearing everywhere..did she walk all over the realm and suck it up. I dislike when a series is not closed completely. Remember what you discussed in book three and close it off correctly.
I need another book after this one where's Brendan's hier!? And does the queen ever go across the ocean to defeat the Giants? Does Drake raise his own son or not? Where's the elder with the trees? So many loose ends.!
This series is one of the best fae series I have read. The ending was a little disappointing because I wanted more but it was worth the journey. There is so much packed into this series but it is put together in a way that you don't feel scattered reading these. I definitely look forward to reading more of Ms. Farrell's work.
The final story of the Chaos Series starts, well, chaotically. Cara is racing on Dubh to Brendan’s court to provide him a necessary antidote. Apparently, Brendan has been cursed into a coma-like state, a living death, by Yvette. Now, the Green King’s court is split between those who support Brendan and those who support Yvette, who declares that she and Brendan married at some point. Cara and Drake, along with support from MacKenzie and his army, have waited outside the boundaries of the castle to see whether or not Cara’s antidote, provided by Bart, will work.
See? Chaotic.
I was initially thrown off by the way the reader was thrown into the events. I felt like I was playing catch-up for a bit until, eventually, all the details start to come out. This happens after Cara awakens Brendan with the antidote and right before she runs off again to where the armies await. So, months have passed in Cara’s world and lots of things have happened within the world of the story: Yvette has taken over Brendan’s court as queen, MacKenzie has made a deal with Cara (his army for her hand in marriage), Sorcha is apparently dealing with a difficult pregnancy, the blight has grown non-stop and Cara has somewhere along the lines decided that she loves Brendan and only Brendan.
For some reason, all of these tidbits catches me off guard, almost like I feel like I missed a section of an entire book. You know, like where was book 5.5? I want to know how Yvette pulled this stuff off and how she interacted with Cara (c’mon, you know you want to read that too). I feel like I missed out on so much! And despite being annoyed I have to give kudos to the author. She has successfully hooked me and created character I care about; they live in such an interesting world that I was to know how they got in their current predicament. Sure, I want to know what happens now, but I want to know that too. Kudos, Claire Farrell.
Still, though… it’s kind of a bummer.
Once Brendan awakes and the business of Yvette and then MacKenzie are dealt with, the search for the last treasure, the cup, must continue. Cara can’t let Chaos-bringers get her down, even if he is enraged by her backing out of their deal.
Not that I blame her. I mean, he’s one step away from being Sadler and there’s no way she’s doing that again.
First, though, she has to deal with Drake, who’s going through his own faery meltdown. As he was one of my favorite characters in the beginning, I found his storyline particularly painful. I know he made his choices, but I feel like he had legit reasons for what he did. In both Usurper and Blight, you get the idea that he was trying to protect Cara and Scarlet. He acted like a jackass, but I had thought things were on the up for him. Where did the super-cold animosity suddenly come from? It was like being back in Queen or Usurper again.
And I kind of have to dislike Cara for her part. Even Brendan notices how harsh she is to Drake, trying to make her realize how hard it is to see Brendan and Cara’s relationship strengthening. Cara doesn’t even try to hide it. At one point, Brendan has to remind her that she loved Drake once and while Drake did marry Sorcha, he did not do it because he loved her.
Eventually, Cara gets both her boys on track (barely sober) and their final quest can continue. It’s definitely been a build-up to the end and I won’t give it away too much. When it was all over, however, I was a bit disappointed at first. Not that the ending was bad, just that it was not what I expected.
Days later, as I thought about it more, I realized that it had continued to stick with the “faery tale” structure. The ending is bittersweet. The characters all have a bit of evil with their good and, upon making their choices, they have to live with them. Cara and the rest accept that the faery world is what it is and that the stories are not all fun magic and sparkly wings. Instead, it’s scary and dark. Sometimes, you have to make difficult choices and you have to give a part of yourself with that choice.
And then you have to live with it.
All in all, though, I did enjoy the series. It’s definitely been a whirlwind and there are moments when you love the characters and when you can’t believe when they act the way they do. I recommend it but… be prepared for some emotions!
Onward to the favorites…
Favorite Character: Dubh, Issy and Tris. Yay for faery animals! Oh and surprise: Sorcha. She understands Drake and it’s sad.
Favorite Runner-Up: Brendan. He stands up for Drake and he’s better than all of us, I swear. He makes being a king look like a Sims game.
Least Favorite Character: Donella. She replaces Sorcha as top bitch.
Favorite Fairy Tale Gone Horrid: What Cara has to do with the cup sounds disgusting…
Favorite Moment: MERMAIDS.
Least Favorite Moment: Drake visits the Chaos Court and there’s an innocent moment of mistaken identity. Talk about twisting the knife that’s already in his heart.
Favorite Quote: Brendan…seriously, this guy has class.
“You can’t bend him to your will or force him to be the way you want him to be. That’s exactly the same thing you accuse him of doing to you… Move on. Accept that he gets to decide what happens in this court, whether you agree with it or not… Choose your battles wisely, or you may be the cause of the things you fight against…”
Such a king, man.

What a wonderful ending to this series. I love that Cara and Brenden finally start working on their relationship. Absolutely loved this story. I really wish the author was making more.
The ending is a slight disappointment. While it's great the protagonist doesn't end up with the controlling Drake, he still gets her to promise not to marry the man who actually cares about her. Still controlling, still dictating, still making terrible decisions he has no right to make, while proving he shouldn't even be in the position to make them in the first place. He learns and earns nothing. At least Brendan earns a happy ending. He got some good and unexpected character development.
This last book was the ultimate culmination of not only the horrendous blight but of everyone's HEA! It wasn't ideal and it wasn't perfect but it was amazing, while I wished for Cara and Brendan to have had a more permamnet arrangement, their HEA was more logical. I'm glad they found each other and completed all the quests together, even if it took them a while to admit their love for each other. Drake on the other hand I think is just destined to be miserable. He made his choices so now he has to live by them..sadly he really wasn't the faery I thought he was going to be.
Well this was a wild and chaotic ride! This has been one of the most intriguing and engaging series I've read in a long time! Sad to see it end but I enjoyed the hell out of it!!!
Amazing. This story has ups and downs and more than one enemy and heartbreak. I couldn't stop until I finished and while I've seen others complain about a hasty ending, I don't agree. Everything comes full circle and closes out loose ends. I can't say I like the man Drake turned out to be, but I think it's all on him...he did it. No one else. He chose his path and maybe with his friends, his court will flourish. As for Cara and Brendan, soul mates. He is the yin to her yang and the power she has to flourish and control herself is unbelievable. I loved this series.
I read the entire Chaos series in three days. While it is not rare for me to not be able to put a book down, I was up until 2am (or whenever I fell asleep with the book on my face) two nights in a row.
Loved this series!!
The characters were well developed over the series and it was so much fun to go on the journey with them.
Well written from start to finish, not only this last chapter but the whole series has been a fantastic, wild, brutal ride into the faery world of old, with the cruelty and wickedness of the old legends and tales brought back to life with amazing talent. I know I will miss the characters and will probably go back to read some of it in the years to come.
I loved this series it kept my interest from start to finish I highly recommend it to Every body to read you will not be disappointed. I love how it all comes together to be a happy ending. It's definitely one of my favorite series I have ever read. Great job.
I have only reviewed book 6 but read all of them. I couldn't stop reading them and wanted to thank the author. These books are where you can loose yourself in a world of possibilities. I would love to read Scarlett's story.I feel I do not want this adventure to end.
Heroes, love, and yes chaos... I must say that I am sorry to have finished this series because I WANT MORE!!! Very well written and quite frankly, a fantastic read 😉 Many thanks to Claire Farrell for her wonderful creations!
I read the whole series and was blown away. Loved it. I didn't want to put it down. Lots of twists and turns and the characters made you hope all would go well for them. Defiantly recommend reading it.
This series was recommended to me and I’m soooooo glad I finally decided to read them. BOY! What an adventure Cara endured. Highly recommend these series for light and exciting reading. I hope who reads them enjoy it as much as I have.
But I still need to know more! I feel like there need to be more books! Who will Brandan's son be? I feel like we need a fast forward to the future book, where we see how the children get on and how they lead...
A really great ending to a superior series. This writer just keeps getting better. This entire series is well worth a reader's time, but I do recommend that they be read in order.
I love this story but I feel like it's not finished. It leaves so many questions unanswered. I read the author has stopped writing so we will never know those answers.
