This one started off rather well, compared to the other stories in the Bad Boys After Dark set, but it quickly went downhill. Stories usually do, when it becomes apparent, there's not much plot involved. And the pacing is way off. And the characters aren't interesting at all.
This was one sex scene after the other and in the end I was supposed to believe the hero and heroine had fallen in love with each other. How? When? How? They barely talked to each other, they barely spent time together while not having sex.
I read much more interesting shifter stories, with much more gripping storyline and engaging characters.

With a new makeover and attitude Emily arrives at the Middlemarch ball looking for a one night stand.

Delightful story, I loved Saber. He knows Emily is his mate but how do you tell a human you are a shifter and if that wasn’t troublesome enough his brothers do their best to interfere every chance they get.

A sexy shifter, a woman looking for great sex (not a relationship), and a love train to a small New Zealand community. I love the storyline in this one. Not a lot of drama, lots of sexual chemistry, interesting characters, and witty dialogue make My Scarlet Woman a quick, fun read. I can't wait to see what happens next for the Middlemarch cats!

This was entertaining enough, if not very good. The story is very thin and the characters don't interact very realistically. On the other hand, the male shifter keeps a good grip on his dominance and is mostly respectful to the human woman.
The main glitch is when the author mentions that the shifter doesn't force the woman to become his partner because he's too proud to take an unwilling mate. Really? That's the reason? I'd think common decency or a conscience might also play a role? The author seems to think she's describing him in a positive light when she says this. I seriously hope she has more sense than that...

I liked this book. Jo/Emily is an interesting individual trying to get past her deceased husband’s emotional abuse. Saber is the oldest brother in his family and thinks it is too late to find his mate until he meets her. I would have liked more story in between the sex. The characters could have had more depth. Overall a good book.

I enjoyed the story. The storyline was interesting and evenly paced. The characters were dynamic. The storyline was a bit different (in a good way) from other shifter stories. It was an interesting twist on things.

Now this is what I like I am just so into paranormal. There's just something about it that I love, I know it's so exciting, the adventure, the theme behind the story of course sex, really hot sex. And believe me this book has a lot of sex. We start in a little Town, in Middlemarch, New Zealand. That's a secret no one can ever Saber Mitchell, went to the ball the town was having to get all his brothers that are constantly getting into mischief, mated.
Everyone was talking about the red dress and how good this person looked and Saber kept looking see all the women thinking that one of them was going to make his brother happy. So he turned around to checkout the red dress OMG! orgasm waiting to happen!!

The chemistry is a hot bed of intoxicating passion and the sex scenes are scorching but this relationship has a problem, due to Emily’s past and personal demons, she’s determined to keep it at the sex only stage which causes a bit of emotional angst. These strong compelling characters captivate readers while the well written, fast paced and smooth flowing plot draws readers in.

So she puts on her sexy clothes while disguising herself with color contacts and a fake name 'Jo' and hops on the first man that attracts her. Which happens to be the shape-shifter Saber Mitchell who has pretty much given up the idea that he is going to be married/mated because he is so old and nothing has hinted that he will find anyone. So he is surprised when he finds 'Jo'. There are a LOT of sexy scenes in this story so that is why I put it into the erotica bookshelf, although it is vanilla H/h love sexy time so it shouldn't bother anyone, but I almost couldn't finish because there was just too much sex and not enough story. This is edited and well written smut.

Even though I already owned Shelley Munro's "My Scarlet Woman (Middlemarch Shifters Book 1)," I'm reviewing it as an ARC via Booksprout. I'm gladly recommending it based upon its own merits. I have read this book several times, & I've enjoyed each reading, which is a true testament to any book. I always find new tidbits popping out, or something new to consider when I reread Shelley's work. I'll definitely be looking forward to more opportunities to read Shelley's work in the future. All opinions expressed within this review are uniquely my own & freely given.

"Writers receive inspiration from many sources. One of my favorite places to look for interesting story ideas is the New Zealand Herald. Several years ago, a small headline caught my attention, Panther sighted again. Evidently, several people living in the Mid-Canterbury area of the South Island had sighted a mystery cat, a large black creature with a tail the same length as its body. Around the same time, a small town called Middlemarch came to my notice in a blaze of publicity. Middlemarch is a real town, situated not far from Dunedin, in the South Island of New Zealand. It seems Middlemarch had a problem—plenty of men, but a shortage of young women of marriageable age. The men of the area were having trouble meeting potential partners. Their solution was to hold an annual dance to bring women to the district. A train, dubbed the “love train”, runs from Dunedin bringing women to attend the dance and returning them home afterward. Romances have bloomed as a direct result of couples meeting during the Middlemarch singles dance. Using writer’s license, I moved the mystery cat a little farther south, planting him firmly in Middlemarch and played a little with the geography of the town. My Scarlet Woman is the result."
It comes to something when the foreword is the best part of the whole book, doesn't it? This is definitely an instance where you should judge a book by its cover. It's exactly what it looks like - eleven chapters of sex scene after sex scene with very little other interaction and yet the characters are apparently madly in love and ready to get at the end despite having only been together about a month. And this from a woman whose first husband cheated on her! Whatever happened to once bitten, twice shy?
Also, if you're going to write erotica, you really should have some basic anatomical knowledge. In other words, YOUR VAGINA IS NOT YOUR WOMB. Come ON, people! Pull it together!

Emily Scarlet went to the Inaugural Middlemarch Singles Ball looking to hook up for a one night stand. She went with her best friend, Maggie; who also happens to be the sister of her dead husband, Michael. The day he died, he told Emily he was leaving her for his secretary. That was six months ago.
Saber Mitchell is the oldest of five brothers. He has a seat on the The Shapeshifter Council and they have a meeting and decide to hold a Singles Ball to encourage more women to come to Middlemarch. He’s not interested in finding anyone for himself, he’s hoping his brothers find someone. That is until he meets the lady in red.
This book was just okay for me. There was a lot of sex and a little bit of a story. Nothing exciting happens and it kind of just fell flat. I never felt anything for the characters except annoyance toward Emily and sorry for Saber because he got her as a fated mate! Every time you turn around Emily is comparing everything to Michael and all his faults and a bunch of self doubt. That did not add up to the person she was when they were having sex. It was like she had a split personality.
I did not like Maggie at all. She is supposed to be Emily’s best friend, but when she hooks up with Saber Maggie calls her a sl*t. Then Maggie turns right around and has a threesome with Saber’s twin brothers and refuses to talk to Emily because she was with someone else other than her brother. Not the kind of best friend a person should have.

I liked this first story in the Middlemarch Shifters series. The feline shifters are in danger of being discovered living amongst the humans of Middlemarch. The young men are bored and acting out, causing there to be black panther sightings in the area that have brought media scrutiny. One look at Saber Mitchell and she knows she has found her man. Good-looking, hot, and sexy. Bring on the sex.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Copy of this book. This is the first book I have had the chance to enjoy by Shelley. This was also the first type of book that I have read and enjoyed when it comes to the subject of Shapeshifters. Emily is on the verge of changing her life after 6 months of dealing with something horrible and life changing. She is a strong independent woman who is just trying to get her life and her own self peace back. Then enters her life the amazing shapeshifter Saber who wont let her go and wont take no for an answer.There is strong chemistry between the two of them and love is undeniable. You can clearly see it and feel it. I loved this book. It was well written with an amazing storyline and romance. It was a good read that kept you interested. I can honestly say that books about shapeshifters was not really something that I could get into. But this one was so very different. I will be reading and enjoying more from this author in the future.

I was halfway through this book when I realized I've read it in paperback form, that didn't spoil me, I still enjoyed the story second time around. Emily whose husband died was a controlling man so Emily decides to go to the Middlemarch Festivities to dance the night away and have fun when she meets Saber who hoping his brothers will find their mates and settle down. Saber recognize that Emily is his mate but he senses that though she acting bold someone has hurt her. The chemistry between them is hot which draws our couple together but Saber wants more in the relationship. Can Saber get Emily to let down her guard and trust him with her heart? This is a great book which introduces Saber brothers and the town that has black panther shifters looking for their mates. I volunteer to read and review this ARC.

Awesome book about cat shifters and romance
I will say that I read this book after I read another book by the same author. This is the first book of the series 15 books of which I owned 9.
I love the characters of Saber and his mate Emily, who wants her independence after a bad marriage which her husband verbally abuse her. She has a difficult time believing that Saber likes her for herself and want to keep her.
There are funny incidents in the story which involves his brothers or rather his brother's as cats. The characters are sexy, relatable , and unique. The plot involves bringing human women to mate with their single men. And that's when the fun begins.
Highly recommend this book and I'm going on to the next in the series.

I love Shelly Munro’s stories and this is a great start to a new series. Emily is overcome by her husbands betrayal he had left her for his secretary but then he died in a car accident. 6 months later Emily shakes herself she’s needing to prove to herself that she’s still desirable goes out looking for a one night stand instead she gets so much more. Sabre is the oldest of his 4 brothers he takes them to a singles ball to help them find their mates so they can grow the hell up, Sabre doesn’t want a mate until he meets the beautiful woman in the red dress Emily. A very sexy erotic story and I loved it all, I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. A fantastic story a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Love a great shifter story
This book sucked me right in. I don't read a lot of shifter books but instantly loved this one. Emily's and Saber's story is awesome. Where he gave up finding his mate Emily is trying to move on. To Saber it was instant attraction and he knew right away he finally found his mate. With him being a shifter and her just being human he is worried that she won't accept his shifter side. Their connection is super strong and sparks just fly. This book is super hot and steamy, just what I love in a great romance. "My Scarlet Woman" is the first book in this series and I will continue reading the other books. Shelley Munro is a new author to me and I am hooked on her writing.

3.5 stars. Good but could have been better.
A good introduction to a series but I just found there was way too much sex and not enough story, weird I know. I really felt that I hardly knew these two main characters apart from some minor background stuff.
Whilst I understand Emily’s thinking I couldn’t sympathise with her when she decided to basically live with Saber but then wanted her independence.
Will be interested in reading the other brothers books and see if they mature at all.
Only after reading and writing this review did I realise I owned and had read this book before but under the series Middlemarch Mates. Slightly confusing.

I am a big fan of shifter romance as there just seems to be something so hot and sexy about the whole shifter paranormal romances. Emily has not had a easy time of it lately. Her husband left her for his secretary and then got killed all in the same day. Saber is the oldest brother of four and is fed up with them. He is hoping to get his brothers mates so they will grow up and start being adults. Emily and her sister in law got to a ball which Saber is attending. He and Emily meet and he know she is his mate. After one hot night together can he convince her to stay.
