The stories and poetry in Semitones are concerned with families, the natural world, and the spiritual. Haunted by music and the voices of the dead, this collection asks what key we are seeking as we move from dawn chorus to evensong.
Derek Furr grew up in rural North Carolina, taught middle school in Charlottesville, Virginia, and now lives in the Hudson Valley with his wife and two sons. He is Associate Professor of Literature in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program at Bard College, where he teaches courses in 19th and 20th century literature and works with aspiring public school teachers. Besides writing and teaching, he runs, plays piano for a small Methodist congregation, and drives his boys to their hockey games all over the frozen northeast.
This is an excellent collection of stories and poems with great variety. It covers a lot from fond family memories to pain and suffering. I would definitely recommend it, it was an intriguing and captivating read.
