Nadira Olaru, a vampire princess, has longed for one thing--to find her mate. She has her sights on a human, but her family does not approve. Vampire law insists because she is of the royal bloodline, she should mate with their kind.

But their laws cannot change who fate has chosen for her.

Zac Cooper was destined to be hers.

The pull to be with him is too strong to ignore.

In the midst of an emerging war, Nadira is targeted by vampires' longtime enemy, the necromancers. Because of this, her mate is now in danger.

Nadira is torn. Should she be selfish and mate with the love of her life for all eternity? Or should she sacrifice their love forever, and let him go, to save him?

I've been getting restless and looking around for something different to read for days now, mostly they've been DNF's but this one was a surprise and I enjoyed it way more than I expected.
Ok I'll admit my expectations weren't high, a result of far too many bad books in such a short period of time but still this is a good find.
Nadira Olaru is a vampire princess, she's the youngest sibling with four very protective older brothers and while she may be a princess she still works as a nurse.
Zac Cooper is a police detective and he's human and instantly attracted to Nadira, Nadira knows as soon as she sees Zac that he's her Fated Mate but knows her brothers won't be happy, at all.
Running along side the romance with Nadira and Zac we have the Necromancers, after disappearing half a century ago they're back and demanding Nadira mate with their prince.
We also have her four brothers Nicu, Adrian, Toma and Teague who are members of the Dark Shadows, which is led by her oldest brother Nicu. The Dark Shadows are an elite group of vampires that hunt down and destroy rogue vampires. They police the streets to keeping humans and vampires safe.
I loved this book, I loved the characters and I can't wait for the next book 'Toma' although it looks like I'll have to because it's not due out until 20th February.

I picked this book up on a whim and I'm definitely regretting it.

Bad writing, awful and unoriginal plot and horrible characters. There wasn't a single redeeming quality in it, not even the sex scenes.

Those were just ratchet. I hate the word 'pussy' and others like it, which means Ariel Marie lost points there.

But apart from that, there was no atmosphere, no sensuality, no passion, no nothing that makes a love scene intense and special. Simply awful.

5 Stars ! This book was so good. I loved the fact that the female was the vampire and the male was human such a great twist from the normal stories . I loved Nadira. This book does not end on cliff-hanger. I highly recommend for vampires book lovers!! This story was the perfect length also . I hate when books are to long that you get bored with them and this one was not one of those . I can not wait to read the next book and i'm also looking forward to reading more from this author. Loved It !!

I received an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I made no guarantee of a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are my own.

From the minute I started reading Princess I was unable to put it down as the author quickly captivated me and aroused my senses. Vivid world building, sexy vampires and humans and evil necromancers everywhere. Full of unexpected twists and turns that are deserving of more than five stars. Did I mention the steamy romance that Ariel Marie has so poignantly put on paper?!!!!

Ariel Marie's writing style is a force to be reckoned with so if paranormal romance is your aphrodisiac then do not let this book slip through your fingers.

I love discovering new authors and it is always such a rush when you find an author that writes a damn good story.

Ariel Marie was this author, she has created an amazing world with characters that are interesting, an interesting world and a good plotline.

I really liked this book, it was well written, it flowed, it had just the right amount of action to keep you glued to the pages. I can't wait for more. I already cannot wait to read Nicu's book, he is one hot alpha male!!!!

So why not a 5* rating if I am raving about this book?...... Cooper. I didn't feel like he was much in this story, he didn't have a "lead"role, he came across as more of a secondary character than the hero.

I received this book as an advanced review copy. While this genre is not my usual reading material I went into it with an open mind knowing quality of writing is what ultimately matters. Let me tell you at the outset, I have been converted. I want more of this genre, and especially more of this series.

Nadira is a vampire princess who works as a healer among humans, who are unaware of the existence of vampires. The writer quickly manages to explain this fictional world in the first few pages. You, the reader, can then quickly settle in for the story.

After work one night Nadira spots Cooper, a human police detective. She is immediately drawn to him. And when Cooper looks at her from across the room, he too is captivated. As they go about their lives after the meeting they are unable to put the other out of their thoughts. I was amused by how she fights to control her display of affection: her fangs ease out! Nice little touch.

And so starts a Romeo and Juliet romance. Her overprotective brothers, the leaders of the Dark Shadows – a group dedicated to destroying rogue vampires – do not want Cooper anywhere near their sister. But their disapproval cannot overcome the strong bond that exists between Nadira and Cooper.

There is a mystery that our detective must get involved in, but really it is just a device to keep throwing these two together. [One distracting note: using a detective to investigate an auto accident is unrealistic. Again it was just to throw Nadira and Cooper together. Minor complaint.]

Nothing can keep our Romeo and Juliet apart. Not even necromancers who want to start a war simply to have Nadira for their own. Through all the trials and the pain they both endure, their love is unrelenting.

This book has battles, hot sex and the foreshadowing of more to come. Let me mention the first physical contact between Nadira and Cooper in his apartment. I found it more sensual than erotic. My heart fluttered. I could feel true love. Excellent writing.

I got caught up in the storyline. It’s an interesting world the writer has shown us. Our main characters are well fleshed out with the promise of fleshing out the others in future installments. If you want an exciting, rip-roaring tale that will pull you into a world filled with vampires and necromancers, yet fill you with the wonder of fated love, this is the book for you. I can’t wait for the sequel.

~~~~~~~~~~Dee's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Ariel Marie is an excellent story teller in the fantasy worlds. She uses words skillfully to bring the paranormal world to life, adding action, mystery , adventure and a lovely romance. Cooper is a hunky human detective tracking down a serial killer with connections beyond his imagination. Nadira is a spunky, strong minded vampire princess determined to protect her fated mate, Cooper. Educating the cop into the reality of vampires makes for a very interesting read. Nadira and Cooper have to travel a challenging path to love while dealing with protective, alpha brothers and a threat to the entire Vampire Nation by the Prince of the Necromancers. Filled with all the elements of an outstanding story, it is amazing beyond words.
~~~~~~~~~~Tracy's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~~

Nadira Olaru is a Princess and a Vampire. She is surrounded by four very over protective older brothers, not to mention the King Vampire her Father. There is a war brewing and Nadira is in the middle of it as the King of the Necromancers wants her to marry his son. While eating with some friends, Nadira sees Zac Cooper, a cop and a human. She feels immediately pulled to him. She feels in her heart that he is her "fated Mate" but if he finds out who she really is he will run. Zac is also pulled to Nadira and wants her no matter what. Their attraction pulls them both into danger as the beginning war heightens. Will Nadira and Zac give in to their attraction? Will Nadira allow her presence in Zac's life bring him further into danger and into her world?

Ariel Marie is a genius! This book wowed me beyond words. I have been looking for a new Vampire Series that I could sink my teeth into and I have found it. You are immediately pulled into this story and feel the emotion between Nadira and Zac or "Cooper" as everyone calls him. I didn't want to put this book down and I cannot wait for the next one. Please Ariel write faster!!! I have a new Vampire Love Affair and it is with Ariel Marie.

~~~~~~~~~~Lindsey's ★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
One of my favorite sub genres of romance is dark fantasy. This book was a great escape for me and I can't wait to explore the series further. I love a good war that spawns unexpected true love. This book is for both lovers of fantasy and for readers who are just beginning to explore the fantasy genre.
Happy reading!
Kudos to "Princess!"
I'm a fan of paranormal stories, but usually am cautious about those that include vampires, thanks to Wesley Snipes and all those "Blade" movies. Blood and gore much? *Shudders*
However, "Princess", IMHO, takes another approach.
Yes, there is violence. After more than fifty years, the Necromancers are back with a vengeance...and must be dealt with. Yes, there is sex, but it isn't pointless or gratuitous. (And it's pretty hot! LOL!) But, for me..."Princess" is about relationships. Friend to friend. Sibling to Sibling. Sibling to Parent. Parent to Parent/King to Queen. Though this is a quick read, the combinations are many. And, while encounters may be brief, the reader comes away with a good grasp of personalities.
Of course, fated mate to fated mate is the best interaction of the story. The initial disbelief, followed by doubt, longing and resignation are spot on. Nadira is very "likable." She is a true princess, but she doesn't rest on her royal lineage. She has an innate need (and ability) to help others. Nadira also convinces one of her brothers to train her to fight as a Dark Shadow...which will SO come in handy! No whining or crying from this princess. While she knows her place in the family, she does NOT hesitate to speak her mind or follow her heart...or make a sacrifice. Zac - a good man and a good cop...blindsided by love...literally. What's not to love about him? The anti-human Olarus should have known early on there was something special about him. The scene in the bedroom after he is "healed" is priceless!
Sodan and Xalak Magnus - UGH! I'd like to kill them myself! (Violent, much? LOL!) What are those evil Necromancers up to?
Extremely satisfying read that leaves you wanting a little bit more...like book 2 - "Toma!"
Enjoy!
Man, I've been wanting to read this forever. I had it on my TBR list and finally got to it! Yay!
Ok negative stuff first...I know, but its gotta be done. :) Character development wasn't great but not too bad. It did seem to be really too simple as far as the story went too fast. I mean Cooper kinda accepted things with no problem the 2nd time around after having his memory erased. Not sure why it would work out the 2nd time and its too easy to believe it was just because of what he saw in the morgue. Just sayin. As far as Cooper's and Nadira's feelings for each other. Seemed more lust than anything concrete like love. Yeah I felt it at the end but I think with the conflicts going on it was a back burner thing. I would have expected there to be a little more conflict with the whole situation with the necromancers. Really wasnt much of a battle. A little but not enough. I was expecting a big blow up. Didnt end up being that way. I am very surprised the King and Queen didnt even make an appearance til well over half the book was over. When she turns him at the end I am sorta surprised there wasnt a little fallout at least.
Positive! See? Its coming! Ok..overall I really liked the story. Kinda loved it. I liked the characters. Even the overbearing brothers. I liked the story line and really Cooper was a good guy and definitely alpha male! Nadira was as sweet as can be but kicks butt when she needs to. She really was sheltered a bit too much but being the only daughter of the Vampire King...well its sorta to be expected. Loved the Queen! Awesome mom, Alin she was great. Stuck up for her daughter and its a shame she didnt make an appearance sooner. Vlad too cause he seems cool but we dont know a whole lot about them. I'd like to see more character development in the next book. Which I will be reading soon!
When the Princess is a vampire, who works at a supernatural hospital, as a healer, there are so many things that can go wrong in her life. However, when something goes right, that's when things start going crazy...
Nadia Olaru is the daughter of the vampire king and a very single minded woman, working as a healer at a supernatural hospital.
Zac Cooper is a police detective who has been investigating a number of bodies. Bodies that appear to have suffered no injuries except the extensive loss of blood, and two small puncture wounds.
When the two of them cross paths and there is an instant attraction, things can only get complicated for them both. Nadia was born a vampire, and Zac doesn't believe in the supernatural. What could possibly go wrong?
I will admit that I received an advanced review copy of this book. With that in mind, as someone who doesn't normally read romance novels, I looked at the supernatural aspects of the story first. But then I was drawn into the complex relationships between the characters, and dilemmas facing Zac and Nadira. There were many layers of conflict in the story, between family issues, the growing relationship, the emotional and racial conflicts, and emerging threat of the be romances. All of these layers helped build a complex story that felt grounded in a world not much unlike our own... This is a great start to the series... I can't wait for book two...
I have read a few other reviews of this book and I’m inclined to agree with them when they say it’s refreshing to see a new take on the vampire-human romance – female vampire meets male human. I don’t know if it’s anything I would have really thought about if I hadn’t read those reviews, but it is very refreshing, and, honestly, just what I was after.
Nadira is an awesome character too, full of strengths and weaknesses that are actually shown to us rather than being spelled out to us (actually, I would say neither Nadira nor the narrator actually recognize the weaknesses, leaving the reader to determine them for themselves, which is something I loooove!) She goes through her own struggles in a very relatable way, and I just generally loved her!
The writing could use a bit of work and another edit. I noticed several shifts in the POV (“her” to “my”) and tense (past to present) in particular. It’s not too bothersome, though it did detract from my personal reading a couple of times as I had to go back and re read to make sure I’d read correctly.
The overall plot and premise is something I really enjoyed, though. I was pulled in right from the start with the mention of a supernatural hospital, because how cool is that? And vampires vs. necromancers? Also awesome! (this is usually the part where everyone tells me this has all been done before... but it’s new to ME!)
Overall, I’m definitely glad I gave this a shot, and am very gladly moving on to read book 2!
I am new to Ariel Marie, therefore I did not know what to expect. However, she did not disappoint me in any way.
I love vampire stories that are in present day time with as much realism as can be expected with a mythical creature. Ariel Marie has hit the mark with her version of a race that is always admired through imagination.
Princess the dark shadows 1 is based around Nadira, the vampire princess, and her family that is considered of royal society. This first installment is an introduction to a vampire race that is under human radar that is at war with a long time enemy called the Necros or Versi.
Nadira is the center of the war for she is eyed to be bethrothed to the son of their enemy. However, her bonding senses are targeted to another soul. One that is human and named cooper, a detective that is investigating strange deaths that are occurring.
The characters are easy to get attached to with their protectiveness, determination, and a hint of silliness. The story is a quick read but does not leave you with the feeling of not being entertained.
Looking forward to reading more of the Olaru family!!
I was given this arc copy in exchange for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated.
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
First off I am a fan of Ariel Marie so this review may be a bit biased. I read her first book "Power of the Fae" and I enjoyed her storytelling immensely! The books do hold some R rated action but if you can deal with that you should definitely look into reading books written by Mrs. Marie!
What I got from this book was a whirlwind of a story! I will not give anything away but it seems that the next book in this series will pick up from another characters life/ struggles. To say the least I felt satisfied with the ending and I was grateful I received a free copy(autographed with goodies might I add). I do look forward to more books from Ariel Marie, I see her as an up and coming author who is doing a fabulous job!
Nadira, the vampire Princess meets detective Cooper while she's at a diner with some of her friends. Cooper happens to be her mate, but what will her family think when they find out that her Fated Mate is a human? How will Cooper react when he learns the girl of his dreams is a vampire? With the necromancers out to get Nadira so she can mate with the necromancer prince Xalax, will Cooper be caught in the cross fire? Will Xalax be successful in getting his betrothed? A war is coming, what side will you be on? I really liked the concept of the vampires being born as vampires. It's a concept that you don't really see often. With that said, I absolutely loved this story and can't wait to read the next book in the series!
This is a new author to me and I have to say I enjoyed this story. I am looking forward to part 2. This book reminds me of BDB and Midnight Breed. It has that feel of them.
Nadira is the princess of the vampires and works as a nurse. She is very calm and caring. I liked that she maintained who she was throughout the book. She didn't let others fight her battles. She took as well as she gave.
Cooper is a cop who wants to crack the case and find peace. He meets Nadira and she takes his breath away. They are torn apart after only having each other for a few precious moments. However, Destiny has the last say.
I would recommend this book if you like you heroin strong and compassionate, with a super sexy male lead.
This was a awesome book. Ariel Marie did it again I loved her Power of the Fae and Fight For the Fae books so I really wanted to read this one also. I got it from Ariel for a honest review and it didn't disappoint. Nadira and Cooper were a great couple to read and I loved Nadira's brothers and the way they tried to keep her away from him. But Fate got them together anyway. I loved how Nadira fought the Versi for Cooper while Xalak had him hostage. I hope her human friend Anika will be one of her brother's mate. I really hope Nadira's brothers gets a book along with a prequel about her parent.
After having read a lot of vampire books over the past few years I wasn’t really planning on reading another one until I read the description of Princess. I really like the idea of a badass royal vampire family in a war with necromancers, and the princess of the vampires in love with a hot human detective.
Unfortunately, I fear my expectations were too high. I loved that Nadira was a quite strong female lead butI feel like I didn’t really get to know Cooper as well as I would have liked to. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the book but I just have the feeling that I was missing something.
Princess was amazing. I have no regrets of reading this book because of the fact that there was a tantalizing romance and you are going to fall in with Nadira and put Zac Cooper onto your book boyfriends list.
That brings me to my next point, have you seen the shirt that is HABB (Husbands Against Book Boyfriends), yeahhhhhhh, try to take a stand against book lovers and their book boyfriends. ;)
In all honesty, I thought that this book was going to drive me to fall in love with the supernatural even further and there is an idea within the book that is probably very provoking. I could not get enough of this book and when the next book is in my hands, I am definitely going to devour it.
I did not enjoy this book at all! I’ve had it on my kindle for a while but only just got round to reading it. I liked the idea of the female lead being the vampire falling for a human man rather than the other way around as it usually is, but there was nothing I liked! The writing was terrible, with a lot of telling instead of showing and felt juvenile in places even though it gives an adult content warning. The sex scenes were awful with phrases such as ‘she presented herself to him’ (what? Like a cat? *shudders*) but with vulgar words interspersed so it jarred. I didn’t feel any chemistry between the main characters and the side characters felt very two dimensional. The story itself was ok I guess but nothing special. The only reason I finished was because it was a short book so got through it quickly. If it had been longer I would have given up a few chapters in
I absolutely loved this story. A vampire princess who is also a nurse, finds a very cute cop named Cooper. She thinks she may have found her mate but someone else has other plans for her. She has to fight for what she wants. Of course I don't wanna give anything away. But I am really looking forward to reading more of this series.
