Sealah Loveridge has grown up knowing that she has some awfully big wakes to navigate a path through if she wants to measure up to the kingdom’s expectations of what Ivyanne Court and Tristan Loveridge’s firstborn heir should be like. Her parents’ looks, strength, intelligence and epic love has raised the bar for happily ever after’s so high that Sealah imagines that it will take a tsunami of personal successes to vault her over it, so that she lands in their future as the true crowned jewel of the kingdom- with a legacy that will never be overshadowed.
But that never seemed like much of a problem to her- just a challenge; and there’s nothing Sealah Loveridge likes more than a challenge. Headstrong, driven and used to getting her way, this mermaid princess has never questioned the likelihood of everything falling into place for her, and imagines that securing the crown and the kingdom’s adoration is just a breath away.
But when Sealah learns that her name means ‘Sea Monster’ and that people are whispering about her and her imperfections behind her back- in a way that nobody speculated about her perfect ancestors- everything changes and by her seventeenth birthday, Sealah is a shadow of her former self and without glory. She knows that the only chance that she has left to secure a fairytale ending for herself is to get through the unveiling of the Ko Huna boardwalk, and then find a true love within the Marked… but how is she going to do that when it feels like at every turn, her rival Mariah Grey is not only attempting to usurp her- but succeeding?
The amusement park was supposed to be Sealah’s greatest accomplishment, but unfortunately, with the influx of visitors to the Seaview area comes a dark evil, and Sealah quickly works out that if she is going to get through the opening weekend, she might just have to give up on the idea of being everybody’s perfect mermaid princess, and embrace the sea-monster siren that still dwells within, and the loneliness that comes with it.
But one thing is for certain- this is going to be a summer that she will never forget, if she manages to survive it.
S.K Munt is an author and playwright from north Queensland, Australia. She mostly writes adult paranormal fantasies, but loves to take the sweetness, hope and innocence that makes YA so beguiling, and give it an adult twist. You could say that she has a 'Pan' complex as far as happy endings go.
Samantha has 4 children, and is happily married to her first love. So far she has penned thirty-two novels, and five plays. In her spare time, she can be found at rehearsals for her local theatre groups, surfing, reading or cleaning compulsively.
A couple of years ago I fell in love with a bunch of mischievous, randy mermaids from S.K Munt's adult mermaid series The Fairytail saga so of course, being the fangirl that I am, I pounced on this one. In this book we see a bit of history repeating. This time it's Sealah Loveridge who must navigate her way through the marked men but instead of leaving a string of broken hearts in her wake, Sealah finds herself dumped and an outcast on her birthday, a weekend that should have been epic! What follows is Munt's signature angst filled, jealousy driven, bitch fighting, steamy, homicidal, craziness!
Fans of TFS will get a kick out of catching up with our beloved mermaids but I don't feel like it's absolutely necessary to read The Fairytail Saga in order to understand or enjoy The Legasea. It works just fine as a companion/stand alone.
Now, I hope it's not bad form to down rate a book due to my enjoyment of its predecessor because that's what I've done. I loved this story and I know it's unfair but I couldn't help but compare it to its big sister and so I found that the characters antics were a little too immature for my taste (admittedly I am too old for this genre), the latter effected it's pace for me, it didn't have the thrill factor that TFS had (although there are some surprising twists) there was a little too much focus on superficial beauty and Sealah rubbed me the wrong way at times. I did find enjoyment in her receiving a slice of humble pie :)
Overall, I would definitely recommend it to older teens and the young at heart looking for a fun read. I look forward to book 2
How freekin awsome was that? I hate you for making your books so addictive. Seriously if i wasn't reading it i was thinking about reading it! gosh can't wait for the 2nd installment... until then I'll be making up plots in my head to what might happen :)
Interesting twists but again editing is a problem. Having read a lot of this series, I did find it hard to believe that Mariah didn't get in trouble for giving names and addresses to the police and her dad was there when she tried to get sea arrested so, what's up with that? Still interesting but leaves all the threads dangling so you'll want the next on..none of the questions established were answered here
Legesea by SK Munt picks up where her Fairytale Saga ended for those who followed the original series. If you enjoy reading mermaid love stories than you will like this one, albeit it's not as good as the original Fairytale Saga. Even so, Legesea, is an entertaining poolside read.
at roughly 25% I had to give up on this book. Its not that it was badly written or lacking in characters its just that is was so slow... I was so uninterested and frustrated by the protagonist moaning whinging and "oh poor me" attitude, It literally felt like I was reading the manuscript of a spoiled rich teenagers life .. it was literally that actually, I had a feeling it might change, something might happen.. but at 25% with no end in sight.. I gave up it. I am a big fan of the The Fairytail Saga and was really excited when I saw that a separate series was coming out relating to the Lovebrige children but this book fell way short of my expectations which was really disappointing.
