One night can change everything…

Nessa Sloan has been in love with Jimmy Baker since the ninth grade when they started up a rock band together. Five years later they’re about to hit the big time—Chaos wins a recording contract and nation-wide tour with Torrence Records. After their celebration party, the two best friends have a one-night stand that will tear their relationship apart.

On the run from Jimmy’s rejection, Nessa takes off on her motorbike, but an accident brings her escape to a tragic end. Now trapped in a broken body, Nessa has to face a future stripped of the one thing that’s gotten her through every past challenge—playing the drums.

Jimmy never meant to break his best friend’s heart, and he will forever regret taking her to bed then treating her like one of his groupies. But once he’d crossed that line, he couldn’t go back. Now Jimmy is on a mission to do something he’s never done before—win a girl over.

Angry and confused by her new disability, Nessa doesn’t want Jimmy’s help. But she has nobody else to rely on…and his pigheaded ass won’t leave her alone. Can these two stubborn hearts get past their own insecurities to figure out what true love really looks like? Or will they drive each other crazy before they finally see the truth?

It’s infuriating, irresistible, and all-consuming… it’s true love.

God, I love when a book surprises me.

Nessa and Jimmy have been friends forever and started a band together. Nessa didn’t have the best childhood and Jimmy, her grandmother Rosie and music have been her only comforts for as long as she could remember. But her life is about to fall apart.

Her grandmother dies, and after winning a competition she and Jimmy sleep together. After he hurts her in the worst way possible she gets on her bike and takes to the road. An accident leaves her disabled and unable to play the drums or do even seemingly simple tasks by herself. She has nobody to turn to and is forced to return to Jimmy and the band. Jimmy, having realised what a mistake he’d made by letting Nessa go, is eaten alive by guilt and does his utmost to win Nessa over.

This was an incredibly sweet story and I enjoyed the journeys of these characters immensely. Each had their own issues to deal with, Nessa with her new disability and Jimmy at war with his feelings for Nessa. There were some moments that were so adorable and the antics Jimmy pulled to get back into Nessa’s good graces had me flat-out squirming in glee.

The book is quite long and covers a lot of ground but I never felt bored. There were a host of funny secondary characters, flashbacks into their pasts and a lot of sizzle and sexual tension to keep things going.

If you’re in the mood for a sweet, yet heart-felt new adult romance, I definitely recommend this one.

So, I asked how did he hurt her, what drove her away? to one of my GR friends, Sybil aka Lala, after reading her wonderful review, and the answer was:
" they slept together one night and the next day he ignored her, so when she finally confronted him he acted as if it meant nothing to him and to drive his point home, the next night when they went out he took two girls home and slept with them and made sure she saw him leaving with them. During the book, while he was trying to convince her to give him a second chance, there were two instances where he checked out other women. He was all: "hey, i had no intention of sleeping with them, I was just looking" about it. I thought that was kind of assholish but those are the only things in the book with OW" and " that wasn't what finally drove her away though. A while later they had a massive argument about something relatively silly but it just escalated and it was the final straw for her. She stormed out and left "
Since that is all a big no-no for me, this book is clearly not for me...

Ps:. But thank you to Sybil for being so forthcoming about the situations! :)

3.5 stars, pretty darn close to 4.

Nessa and Jimmy have been friends forever and their band is finally making it big, but one night of acting on their insane chemistry changes everything. Nessa is finally giving into her feelings for Jimmy, but Jimmy treats her like every other women he's ever slept with, trash. She escapes on her bike, needing the time to figure out her plan, but one wrong turn changes everything in her life and now she may not only lose the man she has feelings for, but also her only outlet in life, the drums. She has no one to turn to, not since her grandma's death, so the band takes her back in. Jimmy will do anything to convince Nessa that he's different and that he can be there for her, but Nessa isn't so quick to accept it after having her entire life crumble around her.

The characters are not the kind of characters you fall in love with, plain and simple. Nessa is so stubborn to the point of being rude, but you have so much sympathy for her and find yourself wanting her life to finally turn around. She's got so much just piled onto her, everything is so negative in her past, which would normally be too much for me, but I really wanted her success in the end. Jimmy is bad boy all the way, I couldn't see anything in him for the longest time, but in the end he was my favorite character POV to read from. He's got a past that, while not bad, has shaped his outlook of the future. He doesn't treat women well, he's totally into himself, and when the going gets tough he absolutely gets going. I liked his character growth and the changes he made to become the person he finds he truly wants to be. Add in some really awesome secondary characters and I was won over by this band of messy rockers.

It is really hard to write about an accident that leaves you unable to live life as you used to, unfortunately this left me with a hard time at imagining Nessa's life after the accident. Everything seemed to move on too easily, however I am still impressed with Melissa Pearl's way of writing it all. I liked watching the struggle of Nessa and how others try to help, the depression and grief is written perfectly, and in the end I could understand Nessa a bit better. Plus, it made for a really interesting story line when it comes to music and overcoming the grief that is holding you back. I liked how each character dealt with Nessa as a friend in a different way and pushed her to overcome her past and face the new future.

This book is totally one of those cases of you love it or you hate it. I was prepared to hate it, I am completely against the over dramatization of characters in terrible situation, but this one just worked for me. It is well written, there are great plot twists, some smut, and a true beginning, middle, and end. While this is book 5 in the Songbird series, it can be read as a standalone.

3.5 stars -- I received a copy of this ebook through netgalley!

Full disclosure: I've only read the first book in this series (and quite awhile ago too) and then skipped to this book, so not sure if there was any additional backstory behind Nessa and Jimmy in those books, though I don't get the impression there was (except maybe a cameo of Nessa in Home?).

I did feel like I was missing something when I first started this book...like I wanted a bit of Jimmy and Nessa's past at the beginning so I could feel how they were together.... We did get some flashbacks throughout the book, but they were mostly of Nessa's past with Rosie and her mother, not as much with how Jimmy and Nessa came to be friends... Maybe I'm just greedy, but I would have loved to have just a little bit of that story, how they met, that kind of thing. So basically it felt like we were thrust right into the story at the beginning, and I kept thinking "but how did we get here?" I'm not sure I appreciated that we didn't learn about what happened on that night or the aftermath until a bit later in the book....and even then we only got certain snapshots. It made it harder to get a feel for them as a couple and even as characters...or at least it felt that way for me.

Despite the slow start, I did come to feel for both of our characters. They were each struggling with the aftermath of the accident, and the choices they made that led up to that, and how that affected their future. And once I got a feel for their chemistry together, I really did feel it. It just took a bit to get to that point for me.

The story isn't just about Nessa struggling to deal with her new circumstances wrt her hand....there was a lot of damage done to her from her childhood. My heart ached for so much of what Nessa was going through. There were some amazingly heart wrenching scenes in this book that got me in the feels. The ending felt a bit rushed to me...it wouldn't have normally, but she was just so stuck in her thought processes, that it was hard to believe that she could get out of it so quickly....but maybe that was just me. I wanted to see little breakthroughs here and there to prepare for the final breakthrough. But then again, now I'm sitting here thinking about it and there were some small breakthroughs, so maybe I'm just on crack.

It almost felt like Jimmy's story really fell to the side and Nessa's story was the main focus. I liked him as a character, but I almost wanted a bit more.

Really loved the rest of the band members...mostly Ralphie and Jace (which surprised me). They added some much needed humour and heart.

I know this seems like a negative review, but it really was an enjoyable story. I love the way Ms. Pearl writes. I just wasn't as enamoured as I'd expected myself to be, and this review it me trying to figure out why. Sometimes I think I'm harder on authors I love than on others....

"The lyrics for "I Miss You" soaked into me, leaving me hollow. I wanted her back. Chaos was nothing without her. I was nothing without her"

True Love follows the story of Nessa and Jimmy. Nessa has been in love with Jimmy for five long years, but Jimmy has never treated her like more than a friend. However, on the night that Chaos wins a recording contract, everything changes. Jimmy and Nessa cross a line that will never be able to be uncrossed. The next morning, Jimmy of course freaks out and makes the worst decision possible. He's letting the fear of becoming like his father, ruin the best thing that's ever happened to him....Nessa was destroyed by Jimmy's rejection, so she did what she does best; she ran. However, while Nessa was on the run, she never imagined the course her life was about to take. You see, Nessa was involved in a motorcycle accident and for a musician, this accident was life changing. Now, Nessa will have to figure out how to live her new life and will have to count on the one person she hates. Jimmy is devastated and terrified that he lost Nessa. While this accident sucks, Jimmy hopes that this will be his change to show Nessa that he messed up, that he was wrong and that he is worthy of her. Will Nessa be able to forgive Jimmy for all the pain that he's caused???

True Love is the 5th book in the Songbird Series, but can totally be read as a stand-alone. This is my first book by this author and I'm sure it will not be my last. Songbird was a quick and easy read for me. I found the story-line to be captivating. I connected with the characters right away. I loved the push and pull between Nessa and Jimmy. Yes, Jimmy did some really stupid things. There were so many times that I wished I could just jump into my kindle and slap him across his face for his stupidity. But, Jimmy was a young guy and while I don't agree with his behavior, I do understand to an extent, why he did the things that he did. I felt that he did redeem himself later on in the story and he did prove to have some swoon-worthy moments. Nessa, I adored her. She went through so, so much. I can't even imagine how she must of felt; first with the rejection from Jimmy, but then her accident. I was really pleased with how much her character grew by the end of the story.

Overall, I found this book to be quiet enjoyable. I thought it was a great second chance romance. True Love had a good mix of angst and romance and drama. I liked that the story was told from dual points of view. I thought the characters were great and easy to connect with. I am curious about the other books in this series and wouldn't mind going back and getting caught up on the other characters stories.

4.5 stars. A wonderful book that starts with one of the main characters, Jimmy, cheating on his high school friend, Nessa, with whom he has cofounded a band (he's the lead singer and Nessa is the drummer). Jimmy and Nessa have just slept together for the first time after their band wins a large competition. Jimmy, following in his father's footsteps, has always been a player and makes sure that Nessa sees him with someone else after bedding her. His immature high school mind doesn't want any feelings for Nessa to take hold in his hard heart. He and his dad don't do relationships.

Nessa is devastated. She has been in love with Jimmy for years and she thought they were headed for an HEA. She takes off on her motorcycle, gets in an accident and loses her hand, ending her drumming career, her association with the band and her overall will to really live anymore.

What is wonderful about this book is REDEMPTION. Jimmy realizes right away the mistakes he has made and he commits himself to showing Nessa how much he does love her, that he is not his father and that she has a wonderful life ahead of her even after losing her hand. Its not easy for him -- there are plenty of bumps along the way but its a beautiful little story. Nessa also learns a lot of lessons along the way about why she chose to hide behind her drums for so long, only to have her security ripped away when she lost her hand.

This is my first Melissa Pearl book but I feel sure it won't be my last.

Some great twist in this book and it is not your normal rock star romance, it is so much more.

Ness is the drummer in Chaos and has been in love with Jimmy the lead singer since high school.

Jimmy cares for all the band members but is the normal rock star player.

Several events are set in motion that change everything. True Love is a story of heart break, loss and fighting your way back to yourself. May not be who your thought you would be but maybe its a better you, or just a different you.

Melissa tells us to love ourselves first then you have the ability to love someone else. Music is healing for all the characters and I connect with that as I love music and how it can change my moods.

I love Nessa's stubborness and her weakness.
Jimmy is not perfect but his patience is a wonderful thing.

I received a copy for an honest review.

Nessa & Jimmy

In the last book we left off were Nessa was in a horrible motorcycle accident and lost her hand. With that being said being a drummer will be difficult one handed. Rick Allen from Def Leppard played one handed and was very successful so it is not impossible.

Nessa’s major situation to overcome is her Nasty Mother’s influence on her as a child. The amputation of her hand would be easier if her mother’s words did not constantly come back to haunt her.

Jimmy has to convince Nessa that he loves her and that they belong together. Nessa has to believe Jimmy and forgive him for his dumbass behavior.

The band gets a new drummer Jace who fits right into the band and Nessa has to find a place in her heart to love herself.

This was my favorite thus far of the Songbird series. Nessa’s role in life has changed and she feels lost. I think many people can relate to this feeling for different reasons. Jimmy has to lose what he did not realize he wanted to appreciate it. This is also true to real life. And the band has to move forward no matter what.

I don't really know how I missed Melissa's books until now. I freaking like Nessa and Jimmy's love story. Friendship, pasion, tragedy, love and music. It's a Songbird novel but it can be read as a standalone.

The story is toldfrom the POV of Nessa and Jimmy. Nessa is the drummer of Chaos, the rock band she started with Jimmy back in high school, and she has been in love with him since then. Jimmy has a different way of living lifethanks to his father. He doesn't believe in love, and just feels like taking care of his band and screw any girl without thinking about a future with them. Everything changes in on night, the night they win a show that lead them to a contract with Torrence Records. After the celebration party Nessa and Jimmy spend the night together, for Nessa is a dream come true, for Jimmy is something that should have never happened. With her heart broken, Nessa leaves the band running away from Jimmy, and tragedy will catch them.

A broken heart hard to heal, regrets from the past, a love that blooms from friendship, that's True Love. A story that shows you that it doesn't matter what people think if you believe in yourself, and that any hardships can be overcome if you are strong enough and have faith.

Nessa is a character that pretends to be strong but is broken on the inside thanks to her mother. Jimmy is a rock boy, sexy, that cares for all his friends and has such cute moments along the story, allways trying to please Nessa. From the second characters I like Ralphie, the big brother type, allways at your side when you need him.

I have come to like Melissa's writting style, and after this one I'll be reading every Songbird novel starting with Fever.

I recommend listening to the True Love playlist on Spotify while reading the novel, it helps you getting into the story, and the songs picked by the author are awesome.

This book stole my heart with every word from the very first page! Melissa Pearl made me feel all the emotions and I did not want to put it down.
I've read the blurb, saw the beautiful cover and just knew that True Love could be my kind of book <3 a friends-to-lovers-rockstar-romance.
That's three of my most favs in one book and I expected to like it (a lot) but reading Jimmy and Nessa's heartbreaking lovestory made me fall in love with this book with all my heart and soul and I can only say I love it.
True Love is def. an alltimefav and one I will re-read many times.
I'm really not a big crier but this book had me on the brink of tears so many times and I love books that can make me feel so much.

I've felt Nessa's pain and hurt and her struggle and it broke my heart but she was also strong and I adore that about her.
Jimmy is wonderful bookboyfriend, you just can't help but fall in love with him.
„I'd thought it was all about the music, when in reality it'd been all about her.“
„She needed an anchor, and I was offering to be that for her. Me-the most unstable guy on the planet.“

The whole band is an amazing group of friends and it was very heartwarming to see how they all had Nessa's back.

True love is a beautiful story about falling in love and friendship, loss and hurt, moving forward, forgiveness and following your dreams and I can't wait for the next book in Melissa's Songbird-Series „Troublemaker“.

Nessa never felt as if she quite fit in with her family until onw day a woman she never met came and rescued her, she was her grandma Rosie. Rosie made Nessa feel loved, wanted, and accepted. Nessa felt more at ease and like she could finally be free to be who she was. Rosie had Nessa's back from that very first day she met her granddaughter and always made sure to tell Nessa she was Perfect just the way she is, that she could do great things and to never let anyone tell you otherwise. Nessa has always had a passion for Rock music, she also took up drumming and became very talented at it. She meets a Wonderful group of guys when she moves in with Rosie and they form a band called Chaos.

Jimmy, Chaos's lead singer/guitarist is the Epitome of a Sinful, Sexy Badboy who goes around breaking hearts. Jimmy has no problem getting girls, having his fill, then moving on the next day but Nessa is different. He loves her, she's been his best friend for years now. Nessa has been in love with Jimmy since she met him in High School but has kept it under wraps and Jimmy seems to be none the wiser.

One night changes everything and the next day it breaks one of them so completely.

Both are running but from what?!?!
What has these two running in opposite directions? Can Jimmy make things right before it's too late? Will Nessa be able to move on with life?

“It’s really not that complicated. You hold her when she cries, you listen to her when she’s ranting, and at the end of every day, you kiss her and tell her that you love her…no matter what’s gone down. And at the start of each day, you make it your goal to get at least one thousand-watt smile out of her, even if you have to be a total idiot to do it.” Simple, yet so true.

True Love is the story of Nessa and Jimmy, best friends who decide to leave the “friend zone” one night. That decision causes such a ripple effect in not only their lives, but so many others as well. Can Nessa overcome this tragedy and be the woman she was always meant to be? Can Jimmy be “that guy”, you know the one who can actually be in a relationship? Will either of them ever be able to find peace amongst all the chaos?

While True Love is book #5 in the Songbird series, it can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed the writing style of Melissa Pearl, and loved how each of the characters in this book interacted with each other. She clearly depicted that you don’t have to share blood with someone in order to consider them to be family.

I give True Love 4.5 stars and I’m adding the other books in this series to my TBR list.

I love the Songbird series. Melissa Pearl has managed to make each book individual to the characters involved, whilst still having other characters cameo in them for that added something special. We met Nessa in Josh and Rachel's book and I found myself looking forward to seeing where this quiet girl with a broken heart would go. Never did I imagine the journey I would take with her.

I fell in love with both Nessa and Jimmy - they both have their faults and fears but they are perfect for each other. I think I spent at least half of this book blinking madly to get rid of my leaking eyes! Nessa has some serious issues to work out - both from her past and present. Jimmy is doing his best to make things right between them but has his own fears throwing spanners in the works, as well as Nessa's lack of trust (which was his own fault anyway!)

Exceedingly well-written, with a smooth pace and enough feels to keep Kleenex in business, I really can't recommend this highly enough. Loved every single word. Just one thing - please tell me that Ralphie gets a story! He is such a sweetheart.

~~I received this in exchange for my honest opinion~~

Where do I even begin with this? I know that when I start to read one of Melissa's books, I know that I will not be disappointed at all. She not only makes sure that her characters are developed, she makes sure that the storyline is strong. I would sum this book up by saying it is about finding who you are on the inside. Without knowing who you really are, you can't really do anything that makes you happy.

Nessa has to learn to live with the ramifications of a terrible accident. She can't do the things that she did before the accident, and that is the hardest part. Jimmy wants to be there for Nessa, he wants to make her believe that she is beautiful just the way that she is. But, the past always sneaks up on people.

I love reading Melissa work. I also love this series! It is linked together, but not enough that you need to start at the beginning (but I think that you should read all of them). This book, like the others, are about music. They have a playlist on Spotify that you can listen to. I highly suggest getting the free account to follow Melissa and the playlists. You won't be disappointed in this book. You will love this book!!

I received an ARC copy of True Love and thought - eh, why not...rock star lit isn't really my thing, but the story sounded intriguing - so I read it - in one sitting - and HOLY MOTHER of PEARL it was HEART-WRENCHING and BEAUTIFUL, I could NOT put it down.

Pearl created emotional, gut-wrenching scenes with Ness. Her character was put together so well and believable, I couldn't help but FEEL her pain coming off of the pages.

And then there is Jimmy. Poor Jimmy, the guilt of pushing Ness away, the determination to win her back, and love he finally realizes he's been harboring makes him soo very swoon-worthy.

Jimmy and Ness together is absolute perfection, and I loved the secondary characters, other band members, as well, and hope they also get to see an HEA.

This is book 5 in the Songbird Series, but can be read as a stand-alone. I haven't read the previous novels, and didn't have any problem following along, or feeling as though I was missing out.

I HIGHLY recommend this tear-jerking, awe-inspiring Songbird Novel to anyone. Take a leap of faith as I did, you'll be happy you did.

This is my first book in the Songbird series but I have read Melissa before. I absolutely loved this book. I received it in exchange for an honest review and I'm telling you you have to read it.

Jimmy and Nessa have been Chaos since high school. As founding members of the band, going big was the dream and when they finally got it. Things went up in flamed between the two of them. Nessa didn't have a great child hood but Rosie saved her bringing her to the guys that have been with her forever. Jimmy too didn't have the ideal childhood but they did what they had to to survive.

When Nessa has her accident everything changes. No longer will she be able to be with the band, but Jimmy realizes things aren't always what you think they are suppose to be and will do anything to be there for Nessa. TO prove he has changed and be there for her. But Nessa has demons she has to work through before letting him in. I had tears, I laughed, and fell in love with these two. I absolutely loved it.

Pretty pretty please do not let me miss out on anything Melissa Pearl writes. True Love is both the title of the book and my feelings for it as well as for the craftsmanship Ms. Pearl displays. To call this an enjoyable read is the equivalent of calling the ocean wet.
When we start this book Nessa is fleeing from bad boy Jimmy who just ripped her heart out. One terrible accident later and both of them are battling regrets as well as demons from their less than perfect parents. Life, love and relationships in general are hard enough without having to overcome the unrealistic expectations of other seriously flawed people. Nessa struggles to find validation that her mother deliberately withheld while Jimmy is finally figuring out that his commitment shy father may not be all that smart. This is a great story of love, sex and rock and roll with many hidden gems of wisdom sprinkled throughout. I was not entirely positive what rating I was going to award this book until it made me teary eyed, again. The Devil rates this worthy of the elusive 5 pitchforks

The way the story began was totally unexpected for me. That said, this is not your typically rock star/band romance. The characters woes and backstory would make you feel why they were acting like the way they did. I love Nessa's strong will and apprciate her vulnerable moments as well. I feel like blaming Jimmy yet my heart aches for all the efforts he did for Nessa. The other band members was absolutely adorable too. I like how they cared for each other like they are family. But the character that caught my attention the most was Jimmy's brother Troy. Just meeting him in this book makes me look forward to reading his story.

I also love how the songs played a part in the novel. It was woven pretty well into the story. I myself knew how music has helped me fixed myself up.

All in all, I had a great time reading this story and watching Nessa grow stronger from tge disaster she was in into her recovery.

I've loosely followed this series after reading book one and two, I haven't gotten around to book three yet but once I saw this one I knew I had to grab it quick. I have a a music obsession for drummers. I love the body movements , how they lead the band, everything. So let's just say I was thrilled this one was a leading star drummer. But for some reason I just couldn't connect with the character Nessa, she was strong willed but maybe a bit too much, she was so wishy washy I couldn't keep up with her emotions and at times set the book down to find other means to read. That's never a good sign, I read this rather slowly just for lack of character connections. Jimmy was ok, I mean he was more relatable so I rather liked his PoV switches. I'm torn with this series now I've had major love hate for it since the beginning. Maybe if some characters were written differently.

I completely love this series based around all things music. Each can be read as a standalone and each are unique in its style as well.

Chaos have just hit the big time but things between band members Nessa and Jimmy took a nosedive after a night of unbelievable passion. Nessa runs, bitterly hurt by Jimmy's actions and ends up in a life changing accident and no longer able to play the drums.

Jimmy recognises his feelings for Nessa but is scared by the prospect of commitment. Seeing Nessa hurt, Jimmy sets out to win her over and be the man she needs. Nessa, though, has to deal with the emotional and physical scars from her accident. The feelings of unworthiness from her childhood come flooding back.

This was a powerful story of overcoming personal insecurities, being yourself and taking a chance. It was an emotional read but an awesome read at the same time.

This is the first book I have read from this author and it won't be the last. True Love is the 5th book in the Songbird series but they can all be read as stand-alone.

Nessa is the drummer in Chaos who has been in love with Jimmy, the lead singer of the band and her best friend since high school. It is hard falling in love with your best friend and then acting on those feelings. Nessa's life changes forever when she has an accident while running away from the broken heart that Jimmy has caused her. True love is about heart break, loss and the fight to find who you are. Cow itching in life is always what it seems and we should always love ourselves just how we are. Melissa does a great job in connecting the characters through their own music and that is always a great way to heal.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of True Love by Melissa Pearl in exchange for an honest review.

Whenever I hear the Pink song, True Love, this story always comes to mind. Nessa has always wanted to be with Jimmy, but he's not into relationships. But a one night stand blows their friendship apart and set into motion a series of events that brings them closer together than ever before.

I loved Nessa, she had grit and determination. She knows what she wants, but her accident really impedes her abilities and sinks her into a low.
Jimmy realises after Nessa has left, that she is THE ONE, but it could all be too late.

The story takes place within a band setting, so not only is there Nessa and Jimmy, but the rest of the band members who are all feeling the pressure and want to be there for Nessa, but she keeps shutting them out.

The whole story is beautifully written, the characters are well formed, and I just love the way the story developed. Well worth the read.

Normally I don't read books when one of the main character who cheats. These characters are not the typical boy girl you mostly read about. From the start you will notice that these to can be toxic to one another. Tessa is a stubborn but, you can't help but feel for her. Jimmy is a true bad boy through and through. Ne sea has an accident that changes her life forever. Jimmy's past is a colorful one that come back to bit him the worst way he truly messed up this time. You will either love it or hate it all I know is that this'll stick with me because it is not like any other book I have read. It's emotional, toxic, volatile but, can't help but root for them throughout it all.

At first my thoughts were…

THE TITLE

TRUE LOVE? Seems really cheesy

THE GOODREADS DESCRIPTION

seems really familiar… Well, I am a Nursing student! Haha! And see limbless people a lot! But apart from helping them with the wheelchairs, I actually don’t know anything about how they feel

THE COVER
doesn't really give that "true love" fairytale fantasy - since all the true loves I know of are the likes of Sleeping Beauty and Prince Philip dancing in the forests

but after reading

OH MY GOSH THAT WAS AMAZING. I FEEL SO ASHAMED FOR ONLY KNOWING ABOUT MELISSA PEARL AND HER NOVELS JUST NOW! Melissa Pearl is officially one of my favorite authors. I thank her, solemnly, for sending me an ebook ARC to review and also for introducing me to a new genre. I haven't strayed from my usual Young Adult reads - and newsflash, I just turned eighteen a few months ago - so this is my first NA read! Cheers! WHY HAVEN’T I HEARD ABOUT HER EARLIER!

DEAR YOU, reading my review. You better read this book if you are any of the things mentioned below.
1. You are in-love with a best friend
2. You are a music lover
3. You are constantly thinking about what other people will see
4. You feel insecure sometimes
5. You feel like giving up
6. You're afraid of some people's expectations
7. You feel like you don't deserve some things in life
8. You feel like you have a reputation to uphold
9. You are afraid of giving second chances
10. You are afraid of change, or changing yourself to be better
11. You are afraid of the ghosts from your past, or your ghosts are still haunting you despite you trying to forget them.

Because if you are any of those things, you might want to get your hands on this book. You'll find it totally relatable (like I did - I am 2-8)

I love stubborn, strong and kick-ass heroines and Nessa Sloan just fit the bill. She has a motorcycle. GIRLS WHO RIDES IN MOTORCYCLES ARE JUST AUTOMATICALLY KICK-ASS types. I don't know why I just loved her. I don't know why I get the part of her being branded as the devil child so much. Being different has always made me feel inferior, and growing up and fitting in was a bit tough for the 12 year old me.

Jimmy Baker is the guy whose name just screams HEARTBREAK. His blue eyes and perseverance was enamored me. I love him for not being his father's son! OH GOD I JUST CRIED WHEN I WAS READING THAT FAIL DATE. MY TEARS FELL FOR YOU JIMMY BAKER! And you DESERVED THEM!!!

The story revolved in Jimmy's cause to win Nessa over, Nessa overcoming her ghosts from the past, their passion for music and
handing out second chances, moving on and finding hope. They playlist was just so helpful it made me lose myself in the book more. I love Pink and Avril Lavigne too! And, Goodness! I did not expect to cry and laugh and just fall in love with this book! I thought that a book with the title "TRUE LOVE" would just be about finding your true love! I'm so glad that I was mistaken!

Here are some lines that I loved from the book
"There's nothing wrong with wearing art on your body, kid. It's a way of keeping precious things with you all the time, and telling the world who you really are"

"Looking into the future terrified me, so all I could do was take our precious now and make it beautiful"

"People aren't trying to be rude. They're just naturally that curious about things they don't understand"

"you are the only thing that can kill your passion"
- and this one rocked me pretty hard, I wanted to be a hardcore violinist when I was younger then college took me in and a future with a stable job blinded me than taking the risk of playing my whole life long

Anyhow, I officially love New Adult now! I didn't to expect the feelings I felt. This books is delicious and amazing and passionate. The only thing I had a problem was with the interchanging chapter of Jimmy and Nessa. They sounded the same. They were somehow written the same, both strong and persistent. I just hoped that there would be a change in their way of thinking, attitude and language (a lot of "freakin'"), which reminded me of how confused I felt while reading Allegiant. Just by comparison, Nessa and Jimmy seemed and sounded the same that if I just read and read without bothering to look up to who was speaking, I'd probably say that it's the same person. Still, this tiny wee flaw is really insignificant to how swooned I felt while reading this novel. Although probably because they were bestfriends which was why the author made it that way.

Thank you Melissa Pearl for taking the time to email and talk to me. I feel really grateful to have met a wonderful writer like you. Thank you for sending me your masterpiece. I think in a way, I will be a more effective Medical practitioner because of the bird's eye view this book gave me with what they have to go through when they lose a limb. In that little way, I can share the hope this book made me see.

Melissa Pearl is a "new to me" author and she certainly will not be a stranger if I can help it! "True Love" is woven together with a present story line and flashback stories. Even though there are appearances of characters from other novels in the Songbird series this is definitely a stand alone book. This is a New Adult novel centering around a band that has won a recording contract via a national competition. There are so many songs and bands and musical artists mentioned in it that there is even a Sound Track list in the beginning of the book. The main characters: The hero Jimmy and The heroine Nessa are both fighting demons from their past that have shaped who they are. However these characters undergo tremendous maturity and emotional growth. This book is heart wrenching so have a handkerchief at the ready. The rest of the band are typical guys but with hearts of pure gold: with fist bumps, shoulder shoves, and rib crushing hugs - well some of them hug.
Melissa Pearl hits every note in this novel: loss of all of those that truly love you, not able to be good enough, not being deserving and yet that no matter what you feel, you've got a choice on how to deal with it. "Better out than in." "True Love" is incredibly touching and I think the title isn't just about the hero and the heroine. I may be wrong I tend to read too much into things. Usually I go on about angst, but in this case I think that it is truly deserved. The flashbacks are genius. They show the reader where the, heroine, came from what her basis is, and then what formed her into what is has become. Some of the flashbacks are more in the "not so distant" past - how they became a band to winning the competition which put them where they are now. The novel doesn't not feel rushed nor overly full of action or emotion. And the romance is spot on. Aided by music to express the feelings of the characters and the emotions at the time. Fabulous!
