Hello!
Thank you for stopping by.
The short story is I was born in Toronto, Canada. When I was 16, my family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and that is where I met my wife, Bev.
We've been married for 43 years and share our home in Southwest Missouri with 4 dogs, 3 cats, 8 chickens, a herd of goats. We have 3 sons and 12 grandchildren that keep us hopping.
I've been known to ride my motorcycle in nice weather, play golf in nice weather, and tend my garden in nice weather. In bad weather, I prefer to stay inside. :)
Thanks to the support of you, our readers, I've been able to devote full time to my writing. Bev does our cover designs.
We hope you our books are enjoyable and you'll let us know.

God Bless, John & Bev

Quick and "clean" read.

Read number of books written by this author, they all have likeable characters you can relate too. Danny Sullivan is just promoted to sergeant, he is about to become father. Has big loving family and both father and grandfather was retired police officers. They each gave him good support and advice, he understood and made his choices. Liked the ending.

A short story that's an easy read, but the main plot is too far-fetched and the characters are too stereotypical, bordering on caricature, even if they are likeable.
The soporific narration of the audiobook certainly didn't help improve my appreciation of it.

I was looking for a police procedural read and stumbled on this one. It's my first Dalglish book, and although I thought it was a bit, how should I say this, naive, simple in its dialogues, I passably enjoyed the story-line of a rookie detective who followed his instincts on a case, despite the resistance he gets from his superior.
Like I said, I thought it was not particularly realistic in the way grown people talk to each other, but I surely liked to be back in Boston a city that I enjoy visiting very much.
Overall a 2,7 stars :-)

a clean suspenseful Christian detective novel! Danny Sullivan comes form a long line of police officers in Boston and has recently been promoted to detective. He is the first detective in his family. Danny is introduced to his partner Detective Raymond Murphy and sent on his first case as a missing persons case soon turns into murder and a serial killer is out prowling the streets of Boston (South Boston) and Danny start falling into the obsessed with work detective cliché category leaving his pregnant wife, Cassie "Cass" Sullivan, at home alone. Which lead to issues near the end, but I am as much of a jerk to spoil the plot. This book is also a clean Christian read as most of the sex happens in the marriage bed, there is absolutely no swearing even heard one in the novel (a lot of Darn moments), and finally the violence is kept to a point. there has to be some because this is a murder mystery and you cant have that without a corpse or two.

Dalglish writes books with very human characters, people you might actually expect to meet on the street or in a police department. His writing in pretty good but really could use a good copy editor to fix up the punctuation and complete some of the sentence fragments. The Clean Suspense Murder Mysteries refers to the lack of really nasty scenes or explicit sex, which is fine with me!
I have read #1 and# 3 and am likely to read #2.

I ran into this Dalglish as the author of a number of books... so I reached back in an effort to discover his first and found "Boston Homicide" I read the book in a couple of days signaling an easy read. I did find the characters rich and likeable for the most part. Missing were the tricks and turns a great crime writer plays with us with. Truthfully a bit predictable.
That being said I saw a good story teller and a careful author ( maybe too careful) I learned to really like Danny and his wife as real people we can relate to but again no real surprises and Dalglish didn't take advantage of story line of his relationship with his wife -- but let it lie flat -
Still I enjoyed it and now feel I need to read another one or two to see where John takes his skill
I just bought Miami Homicide the next in his series -- stay tuned

Not as quirky as Spencer, more like Blue Bloods, this first installment of another Boston based police procedural is engaging and wholesome. Although the dead bodies were falling and a classic Boston nor'easter was raging, our hero manages his first case as a detective in the BPD, the birth of his first child and a father hospitalized with a heart attack. Did I mention that Danny is third generation police? Shades of Blue Bloods, but still a good story and fun read.

Boston Homicide by John C Dalglish (City Murders #1)

Meet newly promoted Detective Danny Sullivan, third generation cop, who gets assigned to Senior Detective Murphy and an unsolved murder of a woman. As the case progresses, another woman is murdered and the case takes on new meaning. Dalglish's writing skills keep you glued to the pages all the way to the last one. Thanks for letting me get to know another writer and a new series. Don't pass this one up. Looking forward to the next one.

A great little clean book. There is murder, which does make sense for a homicide book. It would be nice to flesh it out a bit and see it at full length novel. A little bit of coincidence, but I was ok with it. There was one major writing gaffe with head hopping. This is where we jump, in the middle of a chapter, to the bad guys head, and then back to protagonist's Point of view. It was a happy ending though and everyone was in a good way.

Excellent book...great novel without all the filth that has invaded these entertainment industry by talking filthy and deeply involved sexual situations. This book is free of the filth and is just a detective novel. The plot moves well and reflects family values.

Quite a good story.

This is the first time I've ever read John C. Dalglish and really enjoyed the book. And I really liked his passing of time to keep the reader's interest. I can not wait to read the next book.

New series that I hadn't read before. I really enjoyed this. There were a few things that stretched the suspension of probability but overall it was very enjoyable. I will read more from this author.

Good story

Nice easy read. Fast paced, packed with people and details. Loved that it told a cop story without having cuss words in every sentence

Boston Police Officer Danny Sullivan has just gotten his promotion to Detective, something his father and grandfather never achieved in their careers. He, his wife, and his whole family are thrilled.

But his first case with his new, much more experienced partner, is a missing woman, a nurse at Boston Medical Center, who very shortly turns up dead. She had previously reported a prowler, but there is little evidence to go on. All the usual suspects, her boyfriend, her ex-husband, her coworkers, have alibis, and just don't seem good fits for what happened.

Then a second woman vanishes, and is soon found dead, in the same place the first woman's body was found. There's a superficial similarity, in height, dark eyes, dirty blonde hair. Both bodies, and the site they were left at, are remarkably "clean," the only possible clue being a single footprint, indicating that their killer may have been wearing boat shoes. Oh, and she'd reported a prowler recently, too.

When Danny takes it on himself to look at the last year's worth of prowler reports, he finds a recent large uptick--from women who have dark eyes and dirty blonde hair, who are about the same height as the two murder victims. When he begins to suspect that the killer could be a cop, he knows he's treading on very dangerous ground.

Danny's dilemma, as well as the strain on his wife, nine months pregnant and due any day now, from his long hours, is very well handled. What's also well handled is the setting. Often when a book is set in Boston, I wind up wincing every few minutes because what we get is Boston As Seen On TV, not the real city. I don't know whether Dalglish has a Boston background, or just does really good research, but nothing leaped out at me as wrong. The few times I even had a question, a few seconds on Google showed me that he'd gotten it right. (For instance, a parish in Southie that has changed its name in recent years, and a T station that's on a part of the system I've never used regularly.)

It's a good, solid, police procedural, with real tension and good characterization. On top of that, it gets a city I know and love right for a change!

I bought this audiobook.

Boston Homicide (The City Murders #1) by John C. Dalglish
I live nearby and wanted to hear about the city as I've visited but in health medical related areas.
Starts out with Danny and he's just gotten promoted to detective and his wife is ready to give birth to their first child.
His whole family had jobs in the force. He is assigned with another and they get their first case real quick and start investigating.
Like hearing how they investigate and the little things they notice. Brought back a lot of memories for me because my father was also on the police force and now I can understand why he did not want to advance-he would've meant being home less then he was with us 5 kids.
He went through state police training and was is known as a specials cop, watching schools at Halloween eve and directing traffic and riot control-things that were not called often.
Like how the cases pile up and they can't find a link. He goes against orders and investigates himself.....
Can't believe everything he uncovered. Really enjoyed this one as it was not so gory. Can't wait to read more from this author-x read!
I received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

One of a series of books by this author which as described as 'clean' (i.e. no sex scenes or unnecessary violence or profanity/gratuitous swearing), this read more like a novella than a full novel. It was fairly well written, but didn't inspire me to read any of the authors other works. Not because of something it was deficient in, but it lacked depth. And I like my books to be realistic and reflective of the age we live in. Most similar novels these days are not exactly 'clean' in the sense the author means. However, although I'm not a huge fan of graphic sex or violence descriptions in books, I will read them anyway if they're an intrinsic part of the plot. And so-called profanity and swearing don't bother me at all.

In this book guessed the identity of the murderer about halfway through, but carried on anyway as it was 'light' reading and I wanted to see how the perpetrator got caught. I prefer my novels to have more of a plot and a sense of not really knowing where they're going until nearly the end. This book would suit people who prefer short reads without a convoluted plot. Likeable characters in the main with a homey back story, but not much substance IMHO.

This was a quick read with enough information to keep me interested. It was nice to read a book that didn't have graphic sex and violence for a change.
The story starts off with a young police officer who gets promoted to be a detective. The first in his family of cops. He is introduced to his new partner and immediately gets a case. The story progresses thru how he deals with the case and events surrounding his family (pregnant wife and health issues with father). I like how he looks to his father and grandfather for advice as they had been cops also. I do believe he should have involved his partner more on some things instead of going around him to the boss, it caused issues for them. He's not sure the job is turning out to be exactly what he expected or wanted, long hours, missing the wife.
The book moved along with a good pace and I liked the characters. Will look for other books by this author. I received this book from the Goodreads Giveaways.

Enjoyable And Entertaining!

I enjoy reading police procedurals but find that most of them contain graphic language and subject matter. I have read the four books by this author from another series and decided to give this series a try. I'm glad I did. Interesting plot, characters and best of all no profanity. Very little graphic detail of the murders which also helped. A clean read, fast paced and entertaining. I have downloaded the entire series to my Kindle and anticipate many enjoyable hours of reading. I especially like that each subsequent book is set in a different city which ensures I won't be bored, which sometimes happens when reading a series that contains the same setting and characters. Highly recommend!

After reading hundreds of police and murder books you become kind of critic of the ho-hum.
This book was a very poor beginner like approach to some of the readers who have read much much better. The guilty seemed to jump in the story from no where, were poorly developed and the hero found the answer and saved the girl way too easy. I will apologize if this was caused possibly by the abbreviated Kindle version and the inability to develop further a more intriguing plot and a more dramatic ending. Of course, I have no idea if the paperback version was any better. Bottom line-too simple with little intrigue to keep you awake all night trying to finish.

I couldn't put the book down!

I was very impressed when I read that the book was "clean suspense". I read all kinds of mysteries, the plots are good but I get tired of all the unnecessary foul language and so much explicit sex. This book was very good and was clean. I liked the characters, Danny was a good detective, a good guy and a good husband . I was annoyed by Cassie' s attitude towards Danny's' work hours taking him away from her so much.. I liked the twists the author used, sure kept my interest level high. I will read all of John Dalglish's clean books! Very easy to read.

Quick, interesting read

Never been much of a murder mystery fan, but this novel by Mr. Dalglish got my attention on the very first page with all the right elements to make me hold on to it from start to finish. It was an easy read, well-written, and had just the right amount of stubborn cop intuitiveness to make it stick. The personal touches were nicely interlaced with the tough business of being the new detective on the case. Well done, Mr. Dalglish! With only one grammatical error, you,'ve made this retired teacher a new fan!

Thank you, Mr. Dalglish

It is so refreshing to read a really good mystery without the filth that accompanies many books in this genre. I'm glad there are still writers, and publishers, too, who are willing to look at what some of the public desire in material that's interesting, entertaining, and without compromising our values. There's plenty of stuff out there for people who don't care about obscene and degrading content. Thank you for considering this segment of society.

Very, very good story. Exciting and entertaining.

It is 3 am and after promising myself I would only read one more chapter and delay the end of the book I find that I did finish this most interesting and all consuming story. A dedicated police officer who is about to become a father trusts his gut instincts and sets out to solve some murders. Suspicions include people supposedly above the law, but are they founded? Read it to find out.

Follow your gut

When Danny is promoted to the major case squad, he becomes involved in a case that immediately becomes more complex. Following leads, he feels the case is closer to home than anyone else expects. Meanwhile his wife is very close to delivering their first child. Will he be able to solve the case in time to become a father? Couldn't put it down and wasn't sure of the perp until Danny was. Highly recommend this engrossing clean read.

Cozy Mystery with Expected & Unexpected

It wasn't a nail biter, but it was interesting and left lots of clues for you to guess and then doubt yourself on Who Done It. There were some expected parts, some twists I didn't see, and an ending that made sense.

The book is a solid piece of entertainment. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes trying to solve the mysteries before the ending!
