Ancient World Leaders

جولیوس سزار

Rate this book
History records few individuals as brilliant, powerful, and ruthless as Julius Caesar. Born into the Roman aristocracy, he surpassed the reputation of his family and altered the history of Rome and the Mediterranean world. When Caesar was born in 100 B.C., Rome was a city-state with a republican form of government. When he died in 44 B.C., Rome was on its way to becoming an empire. In those short 56 years, Caesar conquered the Gauls, began the Roman conquest of Britain, and campaigned from Spain to Egypt.

Learn about this master politician's rise to power, and how he used alliances, as well as his own military skill, to become one of the ancient world's most powerful leaders. The book is published by Chelsea House Publishers, a leading publisher of educational material.

I was surprised that I knew more about Caesar than I originally thought. While this book supplied a lot of good information I do think that it should have included more about his time spent with Cleopatra: she did after all give him a son and that Octavian was named his heir. <- Almost nothing was mentioned about this except that Octavian was Caesar's stepson. More information on this part of Caesar's life was desperately needed. Also, I thought the author should have clarified for the reader whether OR not that Caesar suffered from epilepsy. A little more time and effort and this book would have been great for a beginner historian or person just interested in Caesar.

This is a lovely macro-view of Julius Caesar. It chronologically highlights all the important events of his life, with brief explanations. The author illustrates how each event affects decision making, etc. It breaks things down in a way that’s perfect for someone completely unfamiliar with Caesar or Rome. It’s a concise and brief biography, with short chapters covering things like politics and his conquests in Gaul.

I would highly recommend this book for young adult and secondary school readers with little or no knowledge of Caesar. This is going to be a great addition to my daughter’s classical homeschooling.

I didn't realize it was even possible to write about such an impassioned, astonishing, rule-bending person, with a complete lack of emotion. This author has done it. I have rarely read such interesting history in such not-interesting words. It was like reading a textbook. We have the facts and nothing but the facts. So I'm smarter because I know a lot about Julius Caesar, but something inside me is now dead.
