Pretty Bird is the first book I've read by this author and it certainly won't be the last as this was a brilliant read.

Kenna is the sole survivor in a plane crash that also kills the love of her life Derrick. Kenna is left totally devastated. When secrets start to unravel Kenna is determined to find out the truth of the crash.

This was an amazing romantic suspenseful read. Plenty of twists and turns had me totally gripped.
Looking forward to reading more from this author.

A good read. It wasn’t quite a Mel read. I did quite a bit of skimming and I can't quite pin point why. I believe this is probably just a personal thing and that most people will enjoy this read.

I read Olivia's Killer novella series so I know she can write a good suspense story. Pretty Bird is totally different from that series but the suspense is still there. Ok, now onto the heartbreaking story of Derrick and Kenna...

Kenna found her forever in Derrick years ago but now he is gone. He was killed in a plane crash along with 150 others and she is the lone survivor. She should feel lucky but she doesn't, she doesn't want to live without Derrick. Her mind is telling her that she needs to move on, her heart can't let go and when a detective comes looking for answers her world is turned upside down...

Detective Nathan Smith knows there is more to Derrick's life that was hidden, he thinks Kenna knows more about his double life then she lets on. But Kenna had no idea that the love of her life was more than just a construction worker, he had a second job she had no clue about but she wants answers. She doesn't want Derrick's life to be lost for nothing. From the few clues she has found, she can't trust just anybody. She feels that she can trust Nathan but can she? This is a story about corruption and dirty cops are always in the mix.

Kenna and Nathan recruit some unlikely sources to bring down the people that Derrick was trying to protect Kenna from, his employers. This leads to even more secrets...Can they finish what Derrick started? And can this mission help Kenna move on with her life?

This story is about corruption, love, loss, forgiveness and moving on. I felt the heartbreak, felt the suspense and even laughed. Good combo!

Quotes:

“Kenna, I know it’s none of my business, but what are you doing here?” I laugh and walk toward the front of the bar. I need to get out of this freaky alley.
“What does it look like? I’m drowning my sadness with tequila.

If I was in a theater, I would certainly be the one yelling in the audience, telling that bitch in the film to stop being stupid!

Life is messy. Love is even messier. Love makes a person do crazy things.

Pretty Bird is pretty awesome!
Olivia Howe has produced a book that is nothing short of exceptional.
Emotionally this is rollercoaster and it took a lot of time and patience to be able to get to the end. Not that the book was hard work, quite the opposite, my issue was the fact that the book took more than I had anticipated out of me.
The mystery that surrounds the air crash is crazy and as much as she should be able to be left in peace to mourn and then try and rebuild her life after Derrick’s death, but it is obvious fairly early on that for Kenna, that was never going to be the case, especially when the seed of doubt and suspicion is planted in her head.
There was more going on that she could have possibly ever imagined and not only is her heart broken at the loss she has suffered but now, her life is in danger.
Kicking her into action, whoever took the decision to try and remove her from the equation did themselves no favours at all because Kenna is one determined woman, I suppose having someone trying to kill you would do that but she is galvanised into taking her search for the truth to the next level and she will not leave one single stone unturned until she gets to the bottom of what the heck is going on.
Derrick was her reason for being, she loved him implicitly and being without him is a painful life sentence. One that she is determined to understand.
The whole situation is completely screwed and Olivia Howe keeps everything close to her chest, she tantalisingly drip feeds details, slowly and deliberately unpeeling the layers of a mystery that would have rivalled Miss Marple.
The story had me on tenterhooks, could Kenna keep her head and the rest of her for that matter out of trouble? What secrets could she learn along the way, not only about the crash but also about herself?
A superb read, one that has shot right into my top ten!

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange of an honest review.

This is my first novel from Olivia Howe, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew going into it that it would an interested suspense novel since the synopsis gave me that feel. I am blown away with how good this novel really was. I normally don't read many suspense novels because they can get boring, but this one was far from it. The writing and characters were all so intriguing. I was gripped from beginning to end.

The story follows Kenna after she loses her boyfriend in a freak plane crash. That plane crash kills everyone on board. A total of 150 people are dead. She is the only survivor and now has to manage and move on with her life. Things are bad until someone tries to kill. That makes everything worse and forces Kenna to find out the truth behind the plane crash.

Finding out the truth was far from easy for Kenna. Underneath the layers of deceptions and lies, she beings to learn the truth about the crash and her beloved Derrick.

One thing I can say about the writing is that Olivia Howe really took the time to really get those feelings and emotions Kenna had to jump out of the book and on to me as a reader. I really felt a connection with everything Kenna did, said and felt.

Good, old Detective Nathan was an awesome addition to the story. He was the shoulder Kenna needed to lean on. He did try to use her, but when he learned that she knew nothing more about Derrick he worked with her to find the answers.

I loved everything about this book and totally can't wait to read more from this amazing author.

I would like to thank the lovely author and her team for kindly providing me with a copy of " Pretty Bird " to read and review.

Olivia Howe is a new author for me and this is the first book of hers that I've read

Finding out that you are the only survivor of a plane crash, one that killed the love of your life...earth-shattering....
I was going through every emotion I had while reading this story...

Things go from bad to worse as Kenna becomes a suspect in an assassination ring.
There was more going on that she could have possibly ever imagined and not only is her heart broken at the loss she has suffered but now, her life is in danger.

I can literally feel the emotions of Kenna whilst reading this, her pain, anger, grief and letting go.

I was nervous that with everything she threw herself into to get to the bottom that she wouldn't be able to work through her feelings

Nathan was the hero that this book needed.
He not only let Kenna pursue the perpetrators but he was her sounding board and shoulder to lean on.

The story had me on tenterhooks, can Kenna keep her head out of trouble?

What secrets could she learn along the way?
Will she manage to find herself again?

Really enjoyed reading this, even though I cried with Kenn... Gosh she's really been through so much in short space of time!!

Finding out that you are the only sole survivor from the plane crash that killed the love of your life!! I was going through every emotion I had while reading this story...

Never expected another curve ball in this story! The author really did a fantastic job!

I loved the way Detective Nathan Smith took on a role of a protector as its part of his job, but finding out who you can trust is proving a little difficult seeing his partner he thought he knew so well tried to kill him!

Wont give the story away, but honestly I just couldn't put it down, just had to read it in one setting as I REALLY wanted to know what the future holds for Kenn...

*I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book*

Kenna’s life is changed dramatically when a plane crash leaves her as the sole survivor and kills her fiancée, Derrick. Kenna tries to move on with her life, but finds it difficult. Life gets any more complicated when she learns about Derrick’s secret life working for a corrupt company. Teaming up with handsome officer, Nathan, Kenna seeks answers and tries to bring down the company.

Pretty Bird is an intense thriller/romance book that will leave you wanting more.

In the beginning of the book, you feel for Kenna with the grief she’s going through. She experiences all the emotions of anger, sadness, and uncertainty. In the middle of the book, we see Kenna’s fiery attitude shine through as she seeks revenge on the company that caused Derrick’s death.

As Kenna works with Nathan to solve the case, they find themselves falling in love. Yet, Kenna’s grief keeps her from moving on. She must decide whether to continue with the way her life is or take another chance on love.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. The only drawback with me was the pacing. Towards the beginning and middle, there were some parts I felt were too slow. As for the ending, I felt it went by fast and thought that slowing it down could’ve increased the suspenseful build up.

Imagine waking up to finding out that you are the only survivor of a plane crash, not only are you the only survivor but finding out that the love of your life your life was also killed inn that plane crash.

Kenna becomes a suspect in an assassination ring, which she had no clue what that even is.
There was so much more going on then she could have possibly imagined and now her life is in danger.

I have been around so many people when they have lost there husband's and hit rock bottom and I knew the emotions of Kenna while reading the book, her pain, anger, grief and finding the strength to let go.

This was such an amazing story and so many emotions you go through as your reading the book. You can't help but route for Kenna as she go's on journey to find out the truth.

Sigh...

These are the reviews I always hate writing. I expected a lot from this book after reading the blurb, and the cover was so pretty, but sadly it just didn't deliver. I really wanted to like it, I wanted a nail-biting thriller with a bit of romance, but it's just not what I got.

Pretty Bird has an interesting concept and there's a lot of potential in it. The secrets, corruption, undercover sections, and avenging girlfriend make for an interesting plot. However, for me it needs a lot of development. I felt the author skipped over the tiny details that linked everything together and in doing so the book lacked credibility in my eyes so I couldn't buy into the story. For example, I wanted to know how Kenna survived. Why her? What saved her and no one else? I know it's not unheard of people surviving plane crashes, but it's rare with the way the author set this up. Obviously there wouldn't be a story if Kenna had died, but it needed to be believable and for questions to be answered.

Similarly as the story progressed, everything was just to easy and convenient. While that might work in some cases, here it left too many questions. The bad guys just seemed stupid for an organisation that apparently had members right into the government. To pull off what they were doing they needed to be efficient and well organised. I didn't think Avery would make such a simple mistake.

As for the romance, I didn't buy it. Things moved too quickly and it lack emotional depth. Just like my other comments on the plot, the author needed to focus on the tiny details. The story needed to be fleshed out as what I read felt very much like the bare bones.

Overall Pretty Bird has potential, but for me it needed more. There were too many questions left unanswered and I didn't think the mystery or romance was credible. I wanted to like it and I just wish there had been more to it.

Olivia Howe is a new author for me and this is the first book of hers that I've read. It is no secret that I love me a good romantic suspense story and Pretty Bird definitely hit the nail on the head. It was just what I was looking for: fast- paced and equal parts funny and nerve wracking. I hooked from the get go and the main reason was Kenna.

She is pretty spectacular. I mean it isn't everyday that someone survives a plane crash but to learn the love of your life had perished in said crash, talk about starting out with a bang. Then to be thrown into a world full of lies, deceit and danger because of it. On top of that, there is the whole, trying to put the pieces of your life back together again after the whole traumatic experience. I really feel that Kenna's reactions to everything were realistic. I felt her confusion, pain, anger, grief and letting go. I was nervous that with everything she threw herself into to try and get to the bottom of the whole sordid mess that she wouldn't be able to work through her feelings. I was wrong- big time. Of course, it didn't hurt that there was the super sexy Nathan there.

Nathan was the hero that this book needed. He not only let Kenna pursue the perpetrators but he was her sounding board and shoulder to lean on. He was supportive and protective at the same time.Things get really intense and while emotions are high there are somethings that are said and done between Nathan and Kenna that had me cheering. These two aren't lacking in chemistry at all. They fight hard and love harder. That being said, I felt that there were some holes in the development of their relationship. I just wanted a bit more- some connecting outside of the drama.

Olivia Howe packed quite a punch in this book. My emotions were high from page one and I just had to know what would happen. I kept thinking to myself how much more can this girl take? Just when I thought I had something figured out there would be another twist to throw me, and Kenna, off track. Overall, I found Pretty Bird quite enjoyable. And if you like your love stories to start in the most unconventional of ways, then you won't want to miss this one.

I received a free copy of this book via a Booktrope publicist in exchange for an honest review. This will not affect my decision in any way.

Cover: The cover for Pretty Bird is gorgeous! I love everything about it! I feel as if it’s eye-catching and not boring, which is goals for book covers. I would definitely add it to my shelf.

Characters: I always have a problem with remembering characters names after I’ve slept on it. I finished this at 12:30 last night, and it’s actually past twelve hours later so don’t mind me. Kenna! I totally knew that! (Problems of a book nerd.) (I thought it was Nicole but that’s The Prophecy of Shadows by Michelle Madow.)

Reading Pretty Bird you have to feel for Kenna. All of the crap she’s put through, it’s amazing she survives. First off, her boyfriend dies. And then she finds out he’s not who she thought he was. Then, she has to deal with the police. And she’s off getting drunk. And then she makes some pretty bad decisions about The Company. I was just like, “Girl, just give it up.” Everything that can go wrong does, and I may have said too much. I really liked Kenna’s POV. It was interesting to read and see how she handles everything.

Nathan! He reminds me a lot of my tour guide when visiting a college whose name was Nathan as well. And then you have Nathan the dancing dog. Nathan was a pretty cool police officer/detective. Though, I did find it odd when he let Kenna stay in his house for a few days. That was just plain weird.

Plot: Pretty Bird was a nail-bitter. It was suspenseful and very thrilling to read. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. There was never a dull moment.

Overall: I liked Pretty Bird a lot, but I didn’t love it. It was very interesting to read and well-written. The characters were great and hot. It was a really good book which I’m kinda shocked of. I didn’t have high hopes for it, but Pretty Bird definately exceeded my expectations. It was a great, action-packed read that I recommend for anyone that’s looking for a thrilling, page-turner.

Kenna is a spunky woman who has it all, a dream job and the love of her life. All is well until she is in a devastating tragedy that leaves her in pieces. Suddenly the one person who she trusted with all her heart is now a stranger.

She is so determined to make matters right, that she takes the biggest risk of her life by embarking on a dangerous mission, leading her into a swamp of trouble and humiliation. During some scenes, my fingers balled up in anticipation of what was going to happen next. Several times I feared for Kenna's life, the drama was that intense

It was heartwarming to watch Kenna grow into a strong woman. Even though there were overbearing men involved, never did she become the frail girl that is portrayed in so many love stories. It was amazing how she handled tough situations, considering all that she'd been through in such a short period of time. Her valor radiated and she was a true warrior.

As Kenna steps into the new chapter of her life, new ambitions and desires come into play. I was pleased to see that not once did she feel sorry for herself. She showed me that no matter what curve ball is thrown at you, there is something great waiting for you. It's just up to you to seek and find it.

Great description of the sensual scenes, which were sweet and tasteful.

Good buildup of the story. It was easy to join along and I had a clear picture of each setting. Each character had their place in the story and the conversations had purpose. A few times I shed some tears, so keep tissues handy. This book is a perfect escape for an afternoon. Make sure to set some time aside for the ride.

This was the first time reading anything by this author and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this great story . The emotions the I felt like I was on a roller coaster of love and loss, with a mix of mystery and conspiracy that had twists and turns. Kenna is a spunky woman who had it all, with the perfect dream job and the love of her life. And then she had a devastating tragedy that leaves her in pieces. The one person she trusted with all her heart is now a total stranger to her. But she is so determined to make these matters right , so she takes a risk to her life ,by embarking on a dangerous mission, that leads her into a swamp of trouble and humiliation.I find myself seating on the edge of my chair in anticipation of what was going to happen next. I feared for Kenna life several times while she was is on her journey ,she not alone she has a handsome and the sexy detective named Nathan by her side to help her though it all ,the drama was so intense through out this story. I liked how Kenna grew into such a strong woman was heartwarming to watch. The way she handled tough situations considering what she had gone through in such a short time was amazing, she was a real warrior of valor that radiation bright.Kenna's new ambitions and her desires comes into play in this new chapter of her life ,not once did she feel sorry for herself.I could go on and tell you more about this amazing story but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this great story , you won't be disappointed.

Booktrope and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

Kenna has the perfect life: a great boyfriend, a loving family, and a good job. Heading to Hawaii on vacation with her boyfriend, her life is turned upside down when the plane crashes. Derrick is gone and, in his place, are suspicions, innuendos, and secrecy. When Derrick's secret life threatens to bring harm to Kenna, she turns to the detective who was her first point of contact after the fatal crash, Detective Nathan Smith. Little does Kenna know, but her life is about to become much more complicated than she ever realized.

This romantic suspense has a lot of action moments, but the plot was a bit lacking for me. As a huge fan of the suspense thriller genre, I was hoping for more of the story to unfold instead of being thrust upon the reader in rapid succession. Pretty Bird is more successful as a romance, especially in light of the fact that Kenna was so brokenhearted over Derrick, yet seemed to find the strength to move on. Kenna's emotions were all over the place, rightfully so, and I found it hard to feel a real connection to the character. This book is for readers who like romantic suspense, as those who like hardcore suspense thrillers might be disappointed.

I was given an ARC by United Indie Book Blog in exchange for an honest review.

Where to start ?! The cover art is just beautiful !!!!

The quote by Rose Kennedy sent shivers down my spine ! Phenomenal ! Epic ! Let me share it ..... " It has been said , `time heals all wounds ." I do not agree . The wounds remain . In time , the mind , protecting its sanity , covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But , it's never gone ."

We meet Derrick an Kenna on their flight to Hawaii and what's meant to be a romantic getaway ends in tradegy and Kenna is the sole survivor.

Not only is Kenna having to deal with being the sole survivor and mourn the loss of her beloved but she has the added shock and trauma of facing the reality that the one she loved wasn't who he seemed to be . She was in denial for a while but sadly has to face facts when yet another attempt is made on where life . My heart just aches for her .

I will tell you this much though , Kenna, has balls of steel and is fearless. For her to move on she has to take vengeance and find closure , which she does . This is one kickass babe !!

Pretty Bird is the first book I've read by Olivia Howe and it was a five star introduction filled with drama , suspense , romance an action . Looking forward to reading more of Olivia's work .

What a unique and clever plot twist, I swear I didn't see that coming! I went in thinking to find a short, cute and sappy sweet romance, it was just so much more and very unexpected.

The amount of emotion the Author implemented in her writing flair was nothing short of genius, I felt every single thing poor Kenna struggled to overcome in her time of tragedy. Every day was a struggle with depression, with only wanting to be alone to sort of lick her wounds in private, with feelings of guilt in pushing her family away to grieve properly, and in the intense pressure of fighting for her life and knowing who to trust when her world crumbled around her and nothing was how it seemed.

Olivia Howe has produced a thought provoking little gem in the clever second chance romance in a world where a grieving widow overcame tragedy, took down a evil corporation and became a hero. This one is packed full of espionage, angst, twist, turns, thigh tingling romance, lies, deceit and one luscious book size kicker in the ladies bits and pieces of a book boyfriend named NATHAN SMITH!! ~thud~

Incredible Story, with a lot of twist and surprises.
I wasn't sure what to expect with Pretty Bird, the blurb sounded really interesting and I was looking for something different. Kenna goes through a tragic event that has left her with dealing with the loss of Derirck, the man she loves and she is the only survivor of a plane crash.

You think that this is the worst that Kenna would have to deal with, but questions come up about the crash what really caused it, what did it have to do with her and Derrick? When Detective Nathan Smith starts to interview Kenna about Derrick he finds out some suspicious things and doesn't know how much Kenna really knew about Derrick.

Kenna is a very strong female character, I really liked her and her fight to get to the truth no matter what she had to do. She is in constant danger from looking into the accident, there are many surprises in this book. If you like thriller, suspense romance books than Pretty Bird is for you.

4-star read

Pretty Bird is my first Olivia Howe book. Kenna Jones the only survivor of a plane crash to wake to devastating news, she lost her forever too. Heart broken she secluded herself. As she grieves she rshe starts to learn things that don't make sense. Causing just mild bouts of confusion but nothing to set off any alarms until a visit from her detective of the plane crash. As Derrick's secrets become more clear she realizes she didn't know the man she planned to love forever.

I quite enjoyed reading Pretty Bird. It's a great mystery/suspense read. If I were to address any negative points it would be at times statements were restated but worded differently just a page or two apart. This caused me to stumble thinking I lost my place in the book. However, this would not prevent me from reading Olivia’s books in the future because the book’s storyline/plot is so worth the read.

This is my first read by Olivia and I can definitely say I will be reading more from her. This book was suspenseful and a little emotional with all that Kenna goes through loosing Derrick. There are so many twists and turns that have you gripping the edge of your seat and turning page after page.

Kenna is the sole survivor in a plane crash that kills 150 people including the love of her life Derrick. Kenna’s life goes from bad to worse. There are secrets that start to come out and Kenna is determined to find out the truth behind the crash.

Nathan ooh man that detective can protect me any day!! He’s pretty much inserted himself as Kenna’s protector and trust comes into question when someone close to him tries to kill him.

Will Kenna and Nathan be able to figure out the mystery behind the crash? Or will everything come crashing down around them with no answers? Find out today when you get Pretty Bird!!!

Ink Angels Book Blog received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Two people, madly in love, board a plane to a tropical destination in hopes of an amazing vacation. Things do not go as planned and the plane drops out of the sky from engine failure. Kenna is the sole survivor and now she must find a way to continue without her love, Derrick. Things go from bad to worse as Kenna becomes a suspect in an assassination ring. Detective Nathan Smith becomes a constant in her confused, grief-stricken life, but will Nathan be able to help her uncover the people responsible for Derrick's death or will they both be destroyed in the process?

This story engulfs you into a world of resolve and heartbreak. I highly recommend curling up on the couch with your favorite blanket and a cup of tea. This story will drag you in and hold you until the very last page.

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was immediately pulled into the storyline of Olivia Howe's Pretty Bird from the first words I read. I felt that Kenna is a well written and easy to identify with main female character. The other characters in the book are equally interesting and help move the plot line and pacing of the book. I found this to be a very romantic and suspenseful read. There are many real life elements to this book, as well as, some elements of intrigue and undercover work. I will definitely be looking for more of Olivia Howe's writing. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to other readers that might be looking for an author they have not read before. I kept thinking about what Kenna might be feeling or what Kenna was doing when I had to be away from my book.

Pretty bird! The name sounds a little goofy because when you think of just a bird you don't think about it being pretty. Or well at least I don't. This book is about a girl who is on her way to Hawaii with her boyfriend of a few years. It's about a girl who thinks she looses everything and then more. She finds out some thing about her boyfriend that just doesn't make any sense.
All I can say is be prepared for your eyes to water and to get really sappy! And I do not use them words lightly either.
This book is very sentimental and it holds alot of emotions and events that you never want to find yourself in or wish on your worst enemies.
Thus book is a 4 star for me. It was a little hard for me to read for some reason. The plot storyline and all that is just great! I absolutely loved it!
Would I recommend this book? yes. Absolutely
Would I reread this book? yes. I loved the story.

The only reason I gave this book a 2 rating was because I finished it. I did not like the main characters at all. The plot was so clichéd it was almost laughable. Girl meets guy and falls in love; guy dies in a plane crash (she is the only survivor-go figure); girl finds out guys is an assassin for "The Company" (IKR); girl decides to avenge the death of guy with the help of a handsome policeman; girl goes undercover by walking in off the streets and getting a job as the secretary to the top man in this secret deadly company (yeah, right); girl gets exposed and cop guy gets kidnapped; she gets a gang together of other not so secret assassins to rescue cop and gets shot in the process; girl and cop fall in love and live after. The author is new, so hopefully the writing gets better in time.

I received Pretty Bird as part of an AR program in exchange for a non-biased review.

I have to say that I was a little disappointed with this book. The plot was decent, as was the writing, but I just couldn't bring myself to like the characters, which is what killed it for me. The main character, Kenna, particularly drove me crazy! I found her to be shallow, selfish, and a total cry baby. I really wanted to feel bad for her, but her attitude just made that impossible. On the other hand, I did enjoy her mother's character, even if she was barely in the story. The other characters were all quite bland and uninteresting to me.

Not a bad read, but definitely not a great read either. I see promise in the author's writing, however, and would definitely be interested in trying something else she's written. Hopefully with a better leading lady next time.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this in return for an honest and open review.
This is the first book I've read by Olivia Howe and I will definitely be on the look-out for more.
Kenna loses her boyfriend Derrick in a plane crash in which she's the only survivor. When she discovers secrets about Derrick's life she decides to investigate.
The only slight fault I had with this book was the swearing. I'm not against it but felt it was overdone.
That aside I was engrossed by this story. However, I'm pleased I didn't decide to read it on my recent trip to England! It grabbed me at page 1 and I was desperate to find out how it would end.
If you love suspense, mystery and a touch of romance then this is certainly the book for you.

I'm going to start out with saying this book is phenomenal!

Wow. This book gripped me from the beginning. Once I started I couldn't put it down. The intrigue, the suspense, the twists just kept me hooked.

I felt I was right there with Kenna through everything she went through. Her anticipation to spending some time alone with her forever, being the only survivor in a plane crash, learning her forever didn't make it, discovering there was a secret side, trying to survive that secret side. I loved the role Detective Nathan Smith played too.

Very well down Olivia. This is a very powerful book!!! I absolutely loved it!
