Kate: Inside the Rainbow

Rate this book
KATE is a collection of beautiful images from throughout Kate Bush's career. It includes outtakes from classic album shoots and never-before-seen photographs from The Dreaming and Hounds of Love sessions, and rare candid studio shots and behind-the-scenes stills from video sets, including 'Army Dreamers' and 'Running Up that Hill'.

These stunning images will be accompanied by two new essays by John Carder Bush: From Cathy to Kate, describing in vibrant detail their shared childhood and the early, whirlwind days of Kate's career, and Chasing the Shot, which vividly evokes John's experience of photographing his sister.

John Carder Bush: For me, each of these images forms part of a golden thread that shoots through the visual tapestry of Kate's remarkable career. Storytelling has always been the heartbeat of Kate's body of work, and it has been a privilege to capture these photographic illustrations that accompany those magical tales.

'Kate has shown that it is possible to be a globally successful artist without having to be a celebrity.'

'For me, each of these images forms part of a golden thread that shoots through the visual tapestry of Kate's remarkable career. Storytelling has always been the heartbeat of Kate's body of work, and it has been a privilege to capture these photographic illustrations that accompany those magical tales.'

My wife & I gave my Dad this book for a birthday or Christmas. With his passing, it's lovingly come back to us.
Kate Bush is a GODDESS. She was revered in our house and I have vivid memories of her albums playing, staring in wonder at this witch.
Her hair, her red lipstick and copying her film clips for ballet class.
This book rekindles that obsession.

It's possible that Kate Bush's brother has taken a creepy amount of photos of his sister. But they are great photos and there is some insight here into the making of the albums.

Get out your vinyl, and be prepared to be taken on a journey into some of the most private, beautiful moments of Kate's career.

John Carder Bush is a frank narrator, as he allows us to view the pictures he's taken of Kate over the years. Turning the pages in this beautiful book feels like you're sitting on that lion skin rug from 'lionheart', in an attic in London, with the spectre of Kate not too far away as John takes you on the journey from Cathy to Kate.

Some stunning candid moments have been shared in this book, and it's a must see for anyone who has been moved by Kate's music and artistry.

This is very much something only a Kate completist would want. Yes, there are some unseen outtakes, but nothing astonishing. Also, be aware that there are only FOUR photos in the book that are newer than 1994. There is *nothing* here from the Before The Dawn live shows, and to be honest, there's something a bit insulting and sad about seeing Kate gradually disappear below the neck as she ages (and no longer meets commercial standards of thinness and female beauty.)

A must-have for die-hard Kate fans, this book left me with the thoughts that she was incredibly lucky to have had her trusted brother as her photographer and how much she changed between the years of The Whole Story and The Red Shoes. All the losses seem right there on her face, in a way more obvious than I noticed at the time.

A beautiful book.

Yip this was Christmas present and what a present(thanks Nats)! The pictures are beautiful and John Carder Bush's accompanying intros and notes give a rare and unobtrusive glimpse into Kate's world around the time of recording of some of her albums. I loved reading it and looking at the images- a treasure to keep....

Merry Christmas to me. If you're a huge fan of this genius you need this book. Loads of wonderful, interesting photos taken by her brother and some great accompanying essays. Also just a thing of joy to walk into the lounge and see lying on the coffee table. Been reading it very slowly, like one chocolate a time from a luxurious box.
