Marsha is a graduate of Mount Holyoke with a chemical engineering degree and the ex-wife of NBA superstar, Rodney Fisher. So she's not exactly the first woman you would expect to find working at a DC strip club called Hustler's Delight. This is where Marsha finds herself years after a quick divorce and sudden move. Now Marsha's found a way to make some extra money, putting her chemical engineering skills to work in a non-traditional way and making use of her position as a stripper. As far as she's concerned, no one's getting hurt, at least that's what she's convinced herself. But not all of her victims see it that way...
This story grabs you by the collar on page 1 and never lets you go. The main characters are vivid and badass. The way Alexandra explored the junction of strip clubs and hip hop made me think of my hometown of Atlanta where that intersection is a major industry of its own. I also loved the idea of a woman with a science degree applying those skills and talents to something a little more criminal. I liked how the book didn't shy away from the ethical issues. And Smith’s personality is so great; his attractiveness just rises like steam off the Kindle. The author has a great voice, and I want to read more.
This story starts out like a slap, hitting you right away with a shock as we meet Marsha and join her on her latest heist. Despite being, clearly, a criminal, she comes off immediately as a sympathetic character. I wanted to know her, to understand her. She's such a great character because she seems so real. As more of her story is revealed, and she rationalizes her actions and decisions, Marsha shows herself to be an admirable woman in more ways than one.
Everything about this story is well crafted, especially the dialogue. It's rare for me to read a book and hear a person's accent and mannerisms shine through, but that's exactly what Kesia Alexandra accomplished. I felt like I was right there with everybody. Marsha's story is gritty and heartfelt, exploring the choices an intelligent, well-educated woman might make when faced with the tough realities of life. In the end it is a hopeful story, too. I feel like I learned something and was given plenty to think about. But mostly, it's just a seriously great read!
Eating Off The Floor is a short story, easily read in one sitting. The story is one of motherly love, desperate necessity, devious forethought. A divorced mother is a talented bio engineer, and to support the expensive education of her son, a stripper. She supplements her income in a manner that is the thrust of Eating Off The Floor.
The story emphasizes the means to which one will go in the right…or wrong…circumstances. A unique look into a lifestyle choice made by unfortunate situations that are an assumed backstory. The author cleverly lets the reader make up their own mind in several areas…most specifically, the ‘why’ of it all. Nicely done, food for thought.
Kesia Alexandra spins a gritty tale of deception and intrigue that pulls the reader in from the very beginning. Set in the dark underbelly of a big city, the story's main character must do whatever she can to provide for her family--even if it puts her in danger. Instead of using her college degree, Marsha becomes a stripper to earn money. However, the main character takes it further--she seduces her wealthy clients and robs them. Marsha’s heists seem to go smoothly until Crush Boundaries turns the tables on her. Danger, action, seduction and romance make Eating Off the Floor an engaging read. (Copy provided for honest review)
When you're a single parent with a child, and you're desperate, what would you be willing to do? This is a short story of a woman who became a stripper to make some easy money. But, she's also a con artist, putting her chemical engineering background to good use. She justifies her actions, and convinces herself that she's doing the right thing for her kid. Until she meets someone who makes her reconsider her actions.
I could smack her in the head for her choices, but it was fun to see the story enfold anyway. Good writing.
I loved the title and how it fit into the story. This was a fun, yet dark book with plenty of realistic details. Marsha, the main character, is relatable but not too like-able. Though there is plenty of gripping action, I do wish that the author would have expanded on the characters a bit, especially Smith. Eating Off The Floor is a new twist on good girls doing bad things.
This book had a little of everything: suspense, romance, humor. All the things I look for in a book. I liked the heroine's journey and the hero was sweet and strong, a total Alpha in my book. I'd suggest this book to readers looking for a fast read, with a few twists, and a lot of gut punch of feeling all in 50 pages...what's not to love there? I'll be reading more by this author soon!
This was a fun short story. Marsha is an educated stripper. She combines her book smarts with her street smarts to take care of her son’s needs. But then she pulls her scam on the wrong person...but maybe he turns out to be the right person? Marsha eventually has to come to terms with her choices and how they affect her son, especially when a past mark comes back for revenge.
