The Ignea Sagitta (The Flaming Arrow) is one of the earliest and most significant documents of the The Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel (the Carmelites). This edition includes an English translation and introduction by Bede Edwards, OCD, using the critical edition from Andrew Staring, O.Carm.
Ignea Sagitta (translated as Fiery Arrow or Flaming Arrow) gives the name of its author as “Brother Nicholas, sometime Prior General of the Order of the Brothers of the Blessed Mary of Mount Carmel,” and bears a date of February, 1270.
It's mostly a lament by Brother Nicholas, former head of the order he now chastises as worse than lax. They should never have left their cells in the desert where Christ, silence and safety were certain, and moved to the city where dangers lurk everywhere! For the most part a harsh and polemical read, but the good brother is genuine, and acknowledges our weaknesses
Very important Carmelite book.
Actually started this a while back but didn't get anywhere with it and set it aside. Determined to stick with it this time.
