Guillaume Apollinaire (1880-1918) patří k největším francouzským básníkům. Jeho poezie otevírala cesty k novému pojetí modernosti, ztělesňovala ducha dobrodružství. Neexistovalo nic, co by se nemohlo stát inspirací básně. Ne náhodou bylo jeho heslem slavné: okouzluji. Ačkoli je Zahnívající čaroděj dílem básníkova mládí, projevuje se v něm již “zkušený a sečtělý jako starý černokněžník”. Kolem legendární postavy Merlina tak namíchal podivuhodný koktejl z prvků poezie, divadla i románu, v němž se prolínají odkazy na artušovskou legendu, řecké a keltské mýty, středověké bestiáře stejně jako biblické obrazy. Je to dílo oplývající imaginací a neobvyklým humorem, plné zázraků, rozpustilosti, hrůzy, lásky, erotismu i smrti.

V českém překladu vychází Zahnívající čaroděj vůbec poprvé.

Italian-French poet Guillaume Apollinaire, originally Wilhelm Apollinaris de Kostrowitzky, led figures in avant-garde literary and artistic circles.

A Polish mother bore Wilhelm Albert Włodzimierz Apolinary Kostrowicki, this known writer and critic.

People credit him among the foremost of the early 20th century with coining the word surrealism and with writing Les Mamelles de Tirésias (1917), the play of the earliest works, so described and later used as the basis for an opera in 1947.

Clap de fin pour Apollinaire (mais je lirai peut-être encore Les Onze Mille Verges) car j'ai fait le tour des 4 recueils que je voulais explorer. Son théâtre est bien, et la pièce Les Mamelles de Tirésias réellement réjouissante. Au revoir mon ami, je garderai de toi : ton obsession pour les mythes, tes amours écrasants et ton génie inventif de la forme et de la matière du texte. En tout cela tu es grand et extrême. C'était un charmant plaisir.

Très beau, tres court mais vraiment longggggggg. J’apprécie et je n’apprécie pas.
